Convenient location and a good breakfast
How our booking was trying to be changed on arrival by being told we had a double not twin room that I had booked and had email confirmation nearly a year ago, after coming back an hour and half later after apparently speaking to the manager she said oh we’ve managed to find you a twin room and then tried to charge us £13 more than I had originally booked it for even with the butcombe discount! But then paid original price after showing her my booking on booking.com
Not good enough after having driven up from south Devon on a very hot day then being messed about.
Room excellent. Pets made very welcome. Breakfast fabulous
Nice confortable good food nice béer
The Buildings and ambience. It's a nice traditional hotel in the centre of Melksham. Staff were nice. You want to like the place.
The west facing rooms were unbearable in the recent hot weather. Really bad. Windows had restricted opening which we removed but still not enough. They provided fans but they were not enough. We brought our own big fan. We won't be coming back here in summer until they address this.
Breakfast was quite nice but took an hour to serve and eat. Evening meal food was only so so.
The room had a bath and the bed was comfortable
Breakfast too far too long to arrive. 55 minutes. The room was unbearably hot even with the windows open as far as they would go. On the Sunday evening the kitchen closed at 7pm and the bar at 9pm.
The hotel is really lovely. My husband and I had a very spacious room in the courtyard which was kept quite cool with a fan and an open window during these sweltering days of July. We had a nice dinner, although the food was of an uneven quality, some of us enjoyed our meals more than others. My daughter and husband enjoyed staying up late to watch the football. The staff were very nice. They tried hard at dinner to accommodate my daughter and I who are gluten intolerant.
My two adult daughters were in an attic room which was tiny and extremely hot. The manager put.a fan up there when we arrived but even with the small fan we brought it was very uncomfortable. I had emailed twice before we arrived to ask about fans and the heat and had no idea that they’d be put in such a hot room. They had to open a fire door and keep their room door open at night in order to get air in but still passed an uncomfortable night. The management could not move them as they were fully booked. I was told he would reimburse our rooms if we wanted to drive home instead. I feel that the manager could have reimbursed the cost of our daughters’ room as it was so uncomfortable and they knew it would be that hot up there.
Breakfast was also not great for me. My scrambled eggs were burnt, dry and over cooked. I didn’t enjoy my dinner salad either which said it had a Caesar dressing but tasted mostly of mustard which I don’t like. The others in my family enjoyed their meals. All in all a very mixed experience.
Friendly staff and excellent location for accessing public transport. Comfortable beds and a big fan, as it was very hot. It was nice to have fresh milk but it would have been good to also have a supply of milk cartons too.
Bedroom decor was rather mismatched with two different sets of curtains which made it feel like it was mid renovation which was a shame as it had good room facilities such as the radio, cookies etc.
The location suited me as I had to be at an event close by the following day.
It was a very hot day so it was good to find a powerful fan in my room ready for use.
The staff are excellent. Always helpful, polite and looking for solutions to any issues you encounter.
It all feels a little tired. The curtains in my room were torn, the paint peeling on the walls, the window lock broken and hanging off. And it may be a small thing but as a single traveller, when I book to eat in the dining room then that’s where I want to eat. I don’t like arriving to be told I’ve been placed in the bar area for my meal - though the staff were speedy to sort that out.
Lovely old property and full of character.
Good contact from staff and able to get in earlier,so appreciated.
Very clean, good tea and coffee making facilities.
Breakfast was lovely and plentiful and good freshly made tea and coffee.
Due to exceptionally hot weather it was difficult to cool our room even with the fan that was provided
Couldn’t make the shower go to a cool setting.
