I will start by saying that this hotel is in a terrific location and surrounded by anything you could need. The check-in checkout process is completely digital and super convenient. The breakfast seemed fresh and the area was well up kept. The price was also great for the area.
Our issue was with the room. The room itself is extremely dated, which we expected going into a 3 star hotel. What we didn't expect was ripped sheets, the mirror on the closet door to be broken, the shower was missing one of the glass sliders, the ceiling had visible mold, and the room was so humid in the morning that the floor was wet. We had the air conditioner on, and by morning I had developed a cough and sore throat (I slept closest to the unit), which has turned into an upper respiratory infection during the vacation that we were heading down to.
Two hours after checking out, my husband realized he left his whoop strap, and I called the hotel to see if housekeeping had found it. I was told they would call me back and that never happened. We called a few hours later and someone else told us they would call us back after speaking to housekeeping and once again they never called back.
I chose a cheap option as we were only staying for a night, which at this point I regret. I would have gladly spent an extra $75 to sleep in a clean room and not have the first three days of my vacation feeling miserable after what I assume was breathing in damp moldy air overnight.
I’ve been staying at Hyatt properties for many years, and unfortunately Hyatt Place continues to decline. My expectations for the brand are already fairly modest, yet this stay still managed to disappoint.
From the moment we arrived, we weren’t acknowledged as Globalists. While elite recognition isn’t the most important part of a stay, it’s a noticeable omission when it’s one of the program’s advertised benefits.
The room itself had a strong mildew odor that was immediately apparent and especially severe in the poorly lit bathroom. The Wi-Fi was completely unusable throughout our stay. Even more concerning, we encountered the same problem at another Hyatt Place just a week later, suggesting this may be more than an isolated issue.
What has become increasingly frustrating is watching Hyatt Place steadily remove amenities that once made the brand a good value. Over the years, rooms have lost or reduced many of the features that distinguished them:
* Three trash cans have become a single small trash can.
* Microwaves have disappeared from many rooms.
* Kitchen sinks have been removed.
* Refrigerators, once standard, are now increasingly absent.
* Closets have often been replaced with an open, doorless alcove.
* Large entertainment/storage cabinets with shelves have been replaced by a television mounted directly to the wall, eliminating useful storage space.
The cumulative effect is that the rooms feel increasingly stripped down. It gives the impression that Hyatt is reducing the amount of furniture, fixtures, and surfaces that require cleaning and maintenance, but doing so at the expense of guest comfort and convenience.
The bathroom design remains one of the most awkward I’ve encountered. The inward-swinging door leaves so little room that closing it requires an awkward maneuver in an already cramped space.
The lobby is similarly under-resourced. Hyatt advertises a dining area and bar, but staffing appears limited to a single employee who is simultaneously expected to answer the telephone, operate the bar, prepare food, and assist arriving guests. That isn’t fair to the employee, and it inevitably results in unnecessary waits for guests.
Hyatt Place was once a dependable brand that offered spacious, thoughtfully designed rooms at a reasonable price. Since the pandemic, however, the experience has steadily deteriorated. This stay reinforced the impression that the focus has shifted from providing a comfortable guest experience to minimizing operating and housekeeping costs. Unfortunately, it shows.
It is my home away from home. If you are looking for an easy check-in process, this is the place. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel as well. I would recommend this and stay again.
Do not book here. We had to cancel to to a bad storm and they refused to give a refund. I understand it’s within the 72 hour policy, but they were rude about it. It’s also bad customer service because we can’t control the weather. Do not book!
Do not stay at this property.
Due to a computer error, I was never properly checked in. As a result, I was overcharged, and after returning from a full day of work, I discovered that hotel staff had entered my room, removed my belongings, and locked me out.
To make matters worse, I was charged for a night I did not stay there. The hotel had no available rooms to correct the situation, forcing me to find another hotel at a higher cost and inconvenience.
What was most disappointing was the lack of accountability. Kareem, the manager who checked me in the previous day and spoke with me that morning, never contacted me to apologize or resolve the issue. Corporate customer service advised me not to return to the hotel and promised a resolution within 24–48 hours. More than a week later, the issue still has not been resolved.
The level of customer service, communication, and management at this property is unacceptable. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend staying at another hotel. The handling of this situation showed a complete lack of concern for the guest and a troubling disregard for honesty and customer care.
The front desk was not overly friendly. The room could have been cleaned better. Air unit was loud. Bathroom way too small could hardly shut the door. Water pressure minimal. Two elevators in the bldg only one worked. 7:00 am, no coffee cups with the coffee. Breakfast was nasty. Did not keep food stocked for breakfast. We travel a lot, not the worst, but it’s in the bottom 5 of our list. I doubt anyone would stay there twice.
A women's used thong was in the closet. It is hard to close bathroom door because the room was so small. No toiletries in room. Shower was 50 years old.
DO NOT book or stay here! The front desk service is horrible. We reserved 2 rooms in advance but the night we arrived we are told there were no rooms and they were “over booked”. The truth is after waiting on the front desk to “check on” our rooms we are told someone else did not check out earlier as planned. We received no advance notice. They offered NO help and the front desk was rude! We were stuck finding hotel rooms at 11:00pm. I have been a Hyatt member for years and I am appalled by this hotels service. I also never received a call from the Manager as promised. Go to Springhill Suites if you are traveling to this area. They are awesome!
Overall experience was great. Nice shops in walking distance. I would recommend this for a weekend getaway. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Location was great right off of the freeway and walking distance from several eateries. Nice atmosphere hotel smelled really good upon walking through the entrance. The rooms were absolutely horrible. I was there with several of my coworkers and I was able to view four rooms. All bathrooms were nasty. Light switches had caked up dirt. The AC unit was loud with mold w/ around unit wall. Dirty and stained ironing board ,missing iron. One dry towel and two wash/face towel in the room. I mean, I could go on and on but it was hands-down the worst hotel I’ve ever been in ever.
The location of the hotel was wonderful!
If cleanliness and comfort are important to you, you should consider another hotel. Floors were dirty and sticky. Mold in the bathroom. Sagging mattress made co-sleeping difficult.
Very nice and clean hotel that is in a prime location to shopping and eateries. The staff were very friendly and the room selection was just what we needed for our stay.
I recently stayed at the Jackson/Ridgeland location and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, I downloaded the app ahead of time, which made check-in quick and convenient.
Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the room was an issue. After pulling back the linens, I noticed what appeared to be fresh stains on the blankets. I called the front desk to request clean linens, but after waiting over an hour with no response, I had to walk to the front desk myself. The staff then offered me a new room, which I accepted, and it was noticeably cleaner.
However, the second room still had some problems. One of the beds was missing a mattress cover, causing the fitted sheet to constantly slip off, so we only used one bed. The bathroom was also understocked, with just two half rolls of toilet paper provided.
Additionally, the refrigerator itself was clean, but the shelves were found behind the refrigerator instead of properly installed, which was inconvenient.
The noise from the nearby interstate was quite loud, although the air conditioner helped mask it somewhat by running most of the time.
Breakfast was decent overall, though the food was not as warm as I would have preferred.
Overall, while the staff eventually addressed the issue by offering a new room, the cleanliness concerns and room maintenance issues made the stay less comfortable than expected.
This may be the worse hotel at which I have ever stayed. The room was not cleaned well prior to arrival. For instance, there was old toothpaste in the overflow drain of the sink. The TV was located between the living area and the sleeping area, which meant it could not be viewed well from either location. The fridge was not working. However, they did fix the fridge once this was brought to their attention. The breakfast was disappointing. Almost all the food was gone by 8:30 am. Some of the food was nearly inedible, like the frittata. The coffee was watered down. The hot water for tea was room temperature. They ran out of sugar and said they had no more sugar. When we returned to our room on the second day of our stay, the room had not been cleaned. We had to contact the front desk multiple times over the phone and in-person over the next few hours to get the room cleaned. The front desk staff tried to be polite and helpful, but the housekeeping team was being unresponsive. I think it was 8 pm when they finally found someone to clean our room. Finally, there were no special amenities to make the stay more enjoyable, such as a 24/7 coffee bar. I want to emphasize that all the staff, except for housekeeping, were trying to be helpful. The issues likely stem from the company that manages this hotel.
Placed in 3 different rooms due to air conditioning not working at all! Only 1 elevator works and you will wait 15 min to half an hour to get an elevator to your floor so if you are ADA you should know before you go, Apparently there is only 1 employee working the front desk and if you have a problem they really don't care! Apparently Hyatt is ok with their name operating at this location and if that is the case going forward I will take all my business elsewhere! Don't count on management calling you back as they stated either!!
the black out curtains were missing - the toilet wobbled and they tried to fix but did not have the correct part. I had to hook back up the line and turn the water back on as the technician did not do this for us to continue using the toilet for one more night. On Saturday they ran out of food an hour before the breakfast time was over.
During the 2026 winter ice storm, my family and I were without power for over a week and were grateful to stay at this location during that time. We were unsure how long it would take for our power to be restored, but the staff made a stressful situation much easier. They were extremely kind and checked in on my family regularly, even as we had to extend our stay day by day. Their patience, care, and excellent customer service meant so much to us during a difficult time. I truly appreciate their hospitality and would highly recommend this location to anyone in need of a comfortable and welcoming place to stay.
Good location but shower was full of mildew. Room not cleaned the second day. Ran out of toilet paper the next day and front desk staff said they didn't have any! Front area ran out of coffee and front desk said they were completely out of coffee beans from Starbucks.
Wonderful area. Free parking. Lobby is great. Staff is nice. Very quiet area.
Now for the bad parts. The rooms are not as clean as you would expect. Dusty, visible mold in showers. Rusted out handles on every drawer, towels rods and bathroom fixtures. Bathroom exhaust fan uncovered and noisy. Mold on sink aerator. Stipple has been scraped off the ceiling but wasn’t refinished. Bedding was clean.
Location
Didn’t like how small the bathroom was and that the sink/vanity was not in the bathroom.
