We arrived early and enjoyed waiting on the roof terrace waiting for the room to be ready
The room was exactly what we expected and the only tiny niggle, was a lack of space adjacent to the bed which is an inconvenience when it is time to sleep and you have to put technology etc on the main table to charge
Breakfast had a great range and always teat ourselves with a glass of fizz
The roof terrace has great view and service at the bar is very attentive
We stayed for 6 amazing nights.
Our rooms were amazing, tge hotel won design prizes again and again.
We had a problem.with the room and they changed to another one.But all rooms are very modern with huge tub and shower and great bed.
The location cannot be better, next to great mall, few minutes and you are in the old towen and on the water for mirning jog.
The gym is large and has new equipment.
Tons of restaurants and bars all in few minutes walk.
Breakfast was amazing-all you can want hot and cold.
And last the staff were friendly, always wanting to help weather in the reception or at the dining room.special thanks to Louis brito for helping us few times including car problem.thanks !!
Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were always excellent. We particularly enjoyed visiting the rooftop (terrace) bar, especially during its "happy hour"! Mixed feelings about our room. Although undoubtedly stylish, it was surprisingly dark and we thoroughly disliked the needlessly complex lighting controls. We would also have preferred a more complete separation of "private" facilities (toilet and shower) from the other living quarters.
Fantastic, beautiful hotel, restaurant, and spa, with comfortable rooms and exceptional service.
clean property, although convenient, I didn't particularly like that it shared property with shopping mall and not easily marked to find
Amazing staff that were ultra polite and welcoming as well as accommodating. Amazing experience. Will be returning! Obrigado
The shower set-up was a little difficult, everything else was very good.
I loved the rooftop bar which has spectacular views over Funchal and a great selection of drinks and light meals. Happy Hour was always a favourite!.
The UVA restaurant is well worth a visit and offers a good price/quality ratio.
The staff are efficient, cheerful and friendly.
I have no real downers - may be the turn down service was earlier than expected but I'm nitpicking here.
This is a brilliantly located hotel. The service is excellent here, and the hotel is charming. It is never too busy, so there is always a staff member to help.
The staff keep it spotless, and the views from the roof terrace are generally excellent (the city is ever changing, so building works were evident close to the hotel)
However, it does have a few issues. The top issue is the fit and finish; the rooms have extensive lighting, and the switchgear is not backlit, so finding and switching on the lights is a pain. Also, due to age, some are damaged and have not been repaired. The rooms are, by design, very dark; that's great, but you need to be able to see.
The shower room doors are not splashproof and leak, the toilet is placed too close to the door, and you will bang your head sitting down if you are tall.
The Nespresso machine in the restaurant is a frustration; it never provided me with two cups of coffee without some failure.
We tried the roof restaurant (Ova) on one occasion. We were the only diners, and the service was great. The food, however, was not up to the same standards as other great restaurants available, like 5 Sentidos and 1811, to name a couple of local establishments.
The property is centrally located and within walking distance to almost everything, which was very convenient. Parking was available and was one of the main reasons we booked, although it was a little tricky to find at first. There is also a shopping center on the lower levels of the hotel, which was handy whenever we needed something.
Overall, I would describe this as an average hotel and nothing really stood out to make it feel like a true five star property. It is pretty enough, but we did not use many of the amenities such as the pool or gym, so I cannot comment on those.
We did book a spa treatment, and that was a major disappointment. The experience felt very amateur and far from relaxing. It was essentially just oil being rubbed up and down or uncomfortable hand movements that did not target any muscle tension. The room itself was bare and basic, with no robes, no slippers, and a hard bed in what felt like a basement. It certainly did not feel luxurious, especially given the premium price.
What was meant to be something special turned into a waste of two hours and a lot of money. Back in New York, I have had much better massages for a fraction of the cost. If you are considering the spa here, I would strongly recommend doing some research first because it did not meet the standards of a proper spa experience.
I had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at The Vine hotel. Everything worked so well; room had a fantastic view over the city, food was good, staff was friendly but not overwhelmingly so, air condition was efficient, room were very sound proof and the roof terrace and pool were so nice. I really enjoyed my stay!
Great location in Funchal!
Perfect walking distance to everything — especially convenient after a long day of hiking and sightseeing when you want to just wander for dinner.
The rooftop pool was stunning, with plenty of loungers to choose from. Such a relaxing spot to unwind.
They also host nightly performers, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The entertainment felt top-notch (definitely not cheesy), and I loved it!
The daily breakfast buffet on the terrace was a wonderful touch — a great way to start the day.
✨ Highly recommend!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the staff made us feel welcome and were always very friendly and efficient. The hotel is small enough for everything to feel quite personal and it is in a great location just on the edge of the old town, making it an easy walk to get around without the need for buses and taxis, unless you want to go further afield. The room was spacious and well appointed with possibly one of the largest beds I have encountered in a hotel. Great walk in shower and a good sized bath too. Breakfast was excellent, with an extensive selection to choose from, including fresh fruit, cereals, cheeses and cold meats, pastries, different breads and also a good range of cooked options.
The whole experience made our stay in Funchal memorable
The hotel is in a perfect location in Funchal, can't be better. The hotel room wasn't in a great condition, it definitely needs some work, as this is a 5 star hotel. The breakfast was ok.
Being 2 wheelchair users we found getting around inside ok, but outside the hotel was not good for us. The staff very helpful and friendly.
Great hotel and stay only thing is the location makes the entrance to the hotel a little bit difficult to find but once you find it it’s great!
This was our first time to Madeira and Funchal is such a wonderful place!!
The Vine Hotel … What a great place! … I have to say when we arrived and got dropped off at a shopping centre … my heart sank! But after exiting the lift, seeing the modern reception and the warm welcome we immediately felt like we hade made a great choice!
The pool area views are nothing short of stunning!!! The infinity pool, bar and Sun lounge area are well kept and were generally quite throughout our stay
All the team were really friendly and attentive.
The breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices of cooked and continental daily and everyday was lovely!
We chose to dine out each night as the hotel is so well located with lots and lots of choices and everywhere we ate the food was excellent and everyone we met was very friendly
The room was AMAZING with a small balcony, bath and shower and the biggest bed we have ever had
We did the CR7 museum, monte palace tropical gardens tour, cable car, toboggan ride (very fun) and a 4x4 tour with wine tour and everyday had a walk around the harbour and Funchal - very beautiful
This is such a beautiful place and we will be back
Great Hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Vine was an excellent hotel in a great location. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would particularly highlight Hermes, Carmo, Bernardo and Jorges in the bar, the restaurant and at breakfast. It was a shame that my room upgrade was not available but the room we had was still nice. The Vine is easy walking distance to the harbour, the old town and multiple restaurants. The rooftop pool, bar and restaurant are also a fantastic place to spend time.
Wow! Property is beautiful, but the service was incredible! The team there DEFINITELY deserves the previous awards they’ve won! I’ve only stayed at one other property in my entire 57 years that I would say might be comparable to the service we received at the Vine! It made our trip! THANK YOU!
Truly Impressive Stay!
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning architecture — the design is both elegant and inviting. The location couldn’t be more perfect, close to everything yet peaceful and relaxing. Our room (and the entire hotel) was spotless, with every detail carefully maintained.
Highly recommended and would absolutely stay again!
