Pros:

I stayed here on two separate occasions when I was in Galway for work. On the first occasion staff were friendly in the main but the food was not good. While the portion of fish was quite big, the batter was soggy and the portion of chips was insufficient in comparison. The breakfast was very dry. On the second occasion, the room carpet was very badly stained. I was given a different room which I appreciated, but the mugs were chipped, the grouting on the bathroom floor was missing in parts and badly repaired in others. I again asked for my meal on a tray, to take to my room, but had an aluminium take-away box plonked in front of me, with no cutlery or anything else. I had to ask for a plate, cutlery and a tray, which I duly got but the tray had a lot of detritis on it. Mark and Angelina were great, very helpful and sympathetic, offering to address the issues. Breakfast was better on this occasion, but overall the experience was grim, and I won't be back. This was not a 4* service, it really needs to up its game to be anywhere near the Dublin Clayton. One other thing, I had left something behind on the first occasion, the website does not provide the direct dial number for their hotels, I had to use a generic email and a chat bot, the issue was not resolved in this way. I got the direct dial number from the email confirming my second booking and Angelina did resolve the issue and found my item, which was much appreciated.

Pros:

I would highly recommend Hotel Clayton. The staff were very helpful and responded to every request that we made, such as arranging for a taxi. Dining in the evening was not only convenient but the food and the service was exceptional.
The room was lovely and we enjoyed quiet respite at the end of the day.

Pros:

Our room was dirty on check in. Property was a mess throughout. Manager was responsive but rooms were very dirty and old. Amenities were not properly reflective. No shuttles, local bus, no laundry, walk to laundry across the street, not on site. Lovely staff in the restaurant but rooms and overall appearance not clean.

Pros:

This hotel looks great outside and common areas we saw are well kept. However, for us it ended there.
1. We didn't like that it was far away from the areas of Galway we wanted to see (Eyre square, Quay street, etc.) We had to use the local bus to ride into those areas which took about 40 minutes including the wait time & drive.
2. Our room was well worn and felt dirty.
3. Using the bath tub was a chore just to reach in to use the stop for the water due to the placement of the shower glass.
4. NO bathroom fan meant that basically our room was steamed up and clammy the two days/nights we stayed there.
5. When we checked in and got to our room, the bed looked messy like someone had a nap on top of it which made me uneasy as to whether or not the bedding was changed.
6. The bathtub had pubic hair and wasn't well cleaned. I scrubbed the tub before using it!
7.The small trash can in our bathroom was one with a lid but when we stepped on it to raise the top, it didn't work, therefore very time we had garbage to throw out, we had to reach down and raise the lid.
8. We paid a lot of money for 2 nights stay here ($850.00 CAD) and it was not worth that!!
We traveled with two other couples and they have had negative experiences as well but will leave it to them to write reviews.

Pros:

For a family stay, expecting a comfortable experience, but unfortunately, we were left disappointed.
Firstly, we were not informed in advance that the main restaurant would be closed due to a wedding function. Only the bistro was available, and even that was partially closed off for the same event. This significantly disrupted our plans, especially since we had invited friends to join us for dinner before we arrived. We ended up having to stay in the room as there was no proper dining space or any area for the kids to relax or eat comfortably.
Upon arrival, the reception staff did not provide any information about the restaurant closure or the event. The check-in process felt rushed—payment was taken, but no hospitality or helpful details were shared. Later, we received a call from reception asking us to reduce noise in the room, but given there were no available family-friendly spaces elsewhere, we had no choice.
The room itself was below expectations: a bulb was fused, there were spider webs in the shower, and the room had clearly not been vacuumed properly. This added to the overall sense of neglect.
Most of the staff, particularly in the restaurant, lacked basic hospitality—no greetings or engagement. However, we would like to highlight and appreciate one staff member, Clogdya, who stood out with her kindness and attentiveness during breakfast. Despite the busy environment, she greeted us warmly and provided excellent service.

Pros:

We had a great stay! The place was spacious, comfortable, and perfect for our needs. The only downside was the location—it’s a bit further from food spots and major attractions, so it required a bit of extra travel to get to them. However, the overall experience was great, and we’d still recommend it for those looking for a peaceful and roomy stay.

Comfortable,cozy but not walkable.
Pros:

❤️Friendly check-in, the size of the rooms was incredible, lots of space to stretch out, comfortable beds and bedding, luxurious bathroom, view of highway which we loved, delicious breakfast.
💔The hotel was a maze, signs that don’t lead anywhere, trouble finding our room despite being given directions and we speak English, (Italian tourists we saw there are probably still looking for their rooms), difficulty finding public washrooms due to awkward signage, location-not close to anything walkable, you definitely need a car and Galway is not public parking friendly, they tell you that you don’t need reservations at the Bistro, but you do, because you’re out of luck finding another restaurant close by. Looked forward to using the pool but it closed to early for our family to enjoy after check-in.

Pros:

The room was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our toilet didn’t flush properly. Took 3 or 4 times to properly flush. Reported this and maintenance man said it was “normal”. I have never experienced a toilet like this, being described as normal. I had overheard another guest commenting about their toilet not working either. I also think there should be heated towel rails. We had to get our towels changed every day, as they were still damp the next day, when we were having a shower. This would certainly help the environment.
