Residence Inn by Marriott Alexandria Old Town South at Carlyle

F this place. I had a normal experience in May when I was back here for work, but then rebooked for July since I was told by my workplace that I would need to come back again. Well, 2.5 weeks before that return-to-office date, it got cancelled. I tried calling in to cancel my room. They said I was rebooked at the cheapest rate, which carried a cancellation risk because there were no refunds if the cancellation wasn't within 24 hours. I said that I had taken that to mean the same thing as it has always meant for 45 years of my life...that you lose your money if you don't give them 24-hours-notice before you're supposed to check in. But nope, their policy is that it has to be 24 hours from when you actually booked the room, regardless of how far out your arrival date actually is (even if you rebook the room for a year out!). WTF is that about? You have 2.5 weeks to rebook my room. I cancelled within a week of booking and it was due to my agency cancelling my trip...had nothing to do with me...and I gave them more than a reasonable amount of time to get their room rebooked. Give me my money back! Or at least give me credit to reuse at a later return-to-office date! But nope. Waited on hold forever to talk to a manager who was equally unimpressed with my plight. Sorry, I'm paid to just take people's money. It's a scam. F this place and F Marriott. I travel a lot and I'm totally turned off by this. Never gonna use this place or Marriott again if this is their new make-money scheme. Let's give people a lower rate and use the term 24 hours in our explanation and nobody will ever know that they can't get refunds for their cancellations! Yes!

I wanted a hotel close to the Reagan-National Airport and this fit this bill. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. There is a small lobby bar — small bites only for food — with a fun and personable bartender!! It was a nice experience for business travel.

While the room is a bit smaller than other Residence Inns I've been to, the bed was extremely comfortable, the seating area for breakfast was spacious and comfortable, and the location was great - walkable to restaurants but yet in a quiet location. Shout out to Jocelyn for making our stay just a little bit more fun!

I stayed 5 nights at the Residence Inn at Carlyle and it was quite disappointing. This hotel doesn't match other Residence Inn hotels I've stayed in and is more expensive because of its location near Old Town. The room was dirty, we saw some toe nail clippings on the carpet near the sofa, indicating they don't vacuum the carpets. This was confirmed during our stay when housekeeping 'cleaned ' our room midway through our stay and they didn't vacuum the carpet. The room was also poorly maintained and repaired. The carpet has some tears with loose thread hanging out, with many stains and what appeared to be bubble gum dried in. One of the cabinets was missing a handle and you had to open the drawer below it to reach up to open the cabinet. The kitchen didn't have necessary supplies to cook with, only some plates, cups, bowls, and eating utensils. There wasn't a kitchen knife, cutting board, or anything to prepare and cook food with. We ended up using only the microwave to heat up frozen food since the kitchen was useless for cooking. The wi-fi was very slow, even though I selected the enhanced high speed connection as a Marriott gold member. Then there was parking charges. I was able to avoid paying for parking since my room rate including parking, but they charge $40 per night to park a car in the underground property. I would give this Residence Inn a miss if you were coming to the area and were expecting a room that you can actually cook in or is clea

We were charged $150 for a bottled water. This also happened to our friend! Avoid this hotel! We had an amazing stay. One our our friends said,” Did you hear them say they charged $150 for anything used out of the room?” We thought she was crazy because we didn’t hear that. She was right! We drank a bottled water and was charged $150 to our credit card!

Comfortable and quiet room. Good location. Nice neighbourhood.

The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was very good with a little variety from day to day. Staff were friendly and helpful. Easy walk to Metro for trips into DC.
