Protea Hotel by Marriott Umfolozi River

My booking did not reflect and had to stay in a room i did not book.

Das Protea Umfolozi River liegt günstig, um die Nationalparks Hluhluwe-iMfolozi und St. Lucia zu besuchen. Die Anlage mit kleinen Wohneinheiten ist weitläufig, das Gepäck muss also schon mal über Treppen gewuchtet werden und der Weg zur Rezeption / zum Restaurant kann etwas länger sein.
Unser Zimmer war sehr geräumig und mit einem äußerst bequemen Bett und eines sehr angenehm funktionierenden Klimaanlage (ohne Zug) ausgestattet. Die restliche Zimmerausstattung war jedoch ein wenig "schräg": Der Badbereich war lediglich optisch abgetrennt, die Toilette hinter einer halbhohen Wand aus Milchglas "versteckt".
Die Nacht verlief übrigens sehr ruhig, von der nahen Schnellstrasse war so gut wie nichts zu hören.
Der Service im Restaurant erinnerte mich an längst vergangene Zeiten in Südafrika: Das Personal war freundlich und bemüht, aber hochgradig ineffizient. Das kann man als liebenswerte Eigenart ansehen, muss man aber nicht. Wir bestellten Lammkoteletts, erhielten stattdessen aber einen Braten, der jedoch herausragend gut zubereitet war. Vom Fisch des Tages konnte man das leider nicht behaupten. Er war "zu Tode" gebraten und entsprechend strohtrocken.
Im Gegensatz zum Preis für Zimmer mit Frühstück war das Abendessen teuer, in Summe war die Übernachtung aber das Geld wert.

We had to wait past the check in time to check in, no consideration was given for the wait. I paid when booking via Hotels.com and the was charged again when checking in (this double charge was reversed) no consideration was given for this. Rooms were clean and tidy but the pool needs some maintenance. No help from reception with booking of activities.

This is not a conventional hotel. The rooms are not in the main building but are located in chalets. Each chalet contains 4 rooms. This means there is a bit of a walk from the reception area to the room. The distance varies depending on whether you are in one of the chalets nearer the reception or not. Possibly not fun if it is raining.
The rooms are large and comfortable. The wifi was fine. I arrived late and left early the next morning so did not eat at the hotel.

My very first online booking of redeemed voucher I made was not confirmed, there was nothing they could do to assist me I ended up paying.
Had dinner for so sick the next morning running tummy from early hours of the next morning.
They had very few variety of food not even hake was available on the menu for breakfast and dinner.
They had not Milo or Hot chocolate.
I had an aweful experience!

Very warm welcome, good service an I liked the place. We'll surely visit again

We had a very good stay. The breakfast was good and the bed was comfortable. The disabled toilet at reception was not clean though. We need mats next to the bed, it can be very cold in the middle of the night or in the morning to put down feet on a cold floor. Please attend to signage, rom the N2, it is confusing.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel near a game park and were pleased to find the Protea Hotel. We stayed two nights. The staff was friendly and helpful. The dinner buffet was excellent but a bit pricey. The hotel was tucked away in a secluded area but convenient to the freeway. Because of the hotel’s isolation I would suggest that they have at least a vending machine for snacks and needed items.

Was a terrible family get away wont recomend place to family and friends. Was uncomfortable and not safe.

Dit was het 1e grootschalige hotel tijdens onze reis, maar we vonden het erg goed. Het hoofdgebouw had een fijn restaurant en bar met gemakkelijke zitjes, waar een goede internetverbinding was. Mooi zwembad!! Diner was "toevallig vanwege een groter reisgezelschap" een lekker buffet en ook het ontbijt lekker. Allebei zeer betaalbaar!!
Kamer was ook van alle gemakken voorzien!! Jammer dat er geen wifi was.

La chambre et l'hotel sont bien et pour ceque nous avions prévu c'était parfait, il y a un service de restauration et c'est bien pratique vu la localisation de l'hotel mais la nourriture était moyenne et assez chère.

Very close to main highway - follow signs for Umfolozi River hotel - no signs for Protea! Peaceful and very calm. Staff helpful and friendly. Food good and plentiful. Big beautiful gardens with lots of plants and flowers, lots of birds - and the biggest snail I've ever seen in my life! Imfolozi Park gate is about 30 minutes from hotel. Good place to stay!
