Stayed at Holiday Inn Haydock recently and found it to be like other IHG hotels, the hotel is clearly an older property and is starting to look a little dated in parts, with frayed carpets and by the looks of it, more paint on the doors than a dulux factory could produce, so don’t expect anything particularly modern or luxurious, it’s a good 3 star hotel.
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which helped make the stay more pleasant. Check-in was quick and efficient, and check-out was just as smooth and prompt. Overall, while the hotel could benefit from a refresh, the good service and hassle-free experience make it decent enough for a short stay.
I booked the dinner, bed & breakfast package, and the IHG website clearly stated that a 3-course dinner was included. However, when I asked at the hotel, I was told it was actually just a £25 allowance from the à la carte menu which realistically isn’t enough to get a full 3-course dinner.
Credit to the staff though, as they honoured the original deal without any fuss. The food itself was fairly good, well presented, and everything was served correctly first time.
Good location just off the M6, ideal if you’re heading to Warrington, like I was.
Pleased with the room which was clean and well presented, bed was really comfortable and the shower/bathroom again was nice and clean with complimentary shampoos etc. as you'd expect. Breakfast options were good and enjoyable too with alittle bit of something for everyone. Sadly the evening meal was just ok on both nights and unfortunately there were a few off the menu that would've been my go to if I'm honest. A very positive highlight of the visit was meeting a member of staff in the dining area called John Mcaleevey [hope I spelt that correct!] Wish all staff in hotel chains were as attentive and customer friendly as this chap, nothing was a problem and everything done with a smile and a little bit of light hearted banter thrown in too. Really seemed genuinely keen to make sure everything was satisfactory and looked after our table with drinks etc. as if it was come dine with me at his house, so a special thanks and well earned praise for John, its the little things like this that make we want to leave reviews to be honest in the hope that the big chains act and give their staff some recognition. Would definitely return as location was great for my business trip, straight off and on the motorway too. Gym was a bit dated and cramped but enough equipment to get your gym fix, there was also a pool but I never brought my swimming shorts etc. but a good sized pool by the looks of it.
I ordered the burger from the menu, when the dish came, the onion rings were cold and the burger was fatty and disgusting.
I cut it in two and was able to squeeze the bun so fat dripped all over my plate.
The staff offered me an alternative so i chose the club sandwich, a dish that is universal to holiday inns and one i have had many times before.
When this came it was similar in quality of care, really poor.
Its clear to me that the chef just doesn't care and puts food out hoping people are too polite not to complain.
what makes things worse is that, clearly i was unable to eat this slop but rather than ask me, the staff chose to ignore me completely.
It was comical to watch a handful of people go around their daily business actively avoiding talking to me.
I don't expect the world but i do expect something that is appetising and edible.
Poor show holiday inn Haydock
Went for one night stay ,with breakfast and dinner included .
Excellent value, food good , staff amazing,so helpful on every department, hotel let's it self down need a ££ spending on it , fitness area and pool , rooms , areas look battered.
Generally very tired hotel, rooms old fashioned & dated. General level of maintenance very poor, exposed wiring in corridors & lift control panel (photo).
Restaurant below average, over half the items were not available on the menu the week prior to Christmas, kitchen staff could be heard complaining to bar staff that they had “cleaned down” at 21:00.
Was given the choice of potatoes or chips, took the potato option & was presented with potatoes that had bee re-heated by pan frying, yuk.
Check in staff really good (Adam?) & others were aware of the problems & sympathetic, but they are not able to fix the basic problems.
It seems to be generally a contractor’s hotel during the week, cannot comment on the weekend, but the place needs a refurb.
The rooms are nice, staff excellent, gym and pool are good but the restaurant food is dire!
Most of the menu is unavailable and what is left is very poor quality, tiny portions and considering the prices charged, definitely not worth it and I do not recommend eating there.
Travelled from Cyprus to a surprise party. Decided to stay here as it was the closest to the venue.
Looks a little dull from the outside, but don’t let that put you off.
Inside was lovely and the staff were certainly warm and welcoming.
Room was spotless and had everything you needed. We got back to the hotel just after midnight and the bar was still open, had a nightcap and went to bed.
Breakfast was nice, no clear indication as to where to go first. But overall a good choice.
Upon arrival around 7pm the car park has no working lighting so extremely difficult to navigate. Could not find the EV charging station noted on the amenities list for the hotel.
Upon check in that was an underwhelming experience from staff, no pleasantries or inviting welcome.
Food in the cafeteria, couldn’t really call it a restaurant was also poor. Cold chips to accompany gammon steak and cold peas. Not great for £17.95
Got to my room to find used sheets and bed linen had been left for. Another great welcome to the hotel chain.
I went to reception to request they be changed, I was very polite and advised I hate to be that person to complain but that’s not acceptable. I got told to give them 30 mins go and wait in the bar and they will sort it. No apology not even please have a free drink well you wait.
Overall a very tired and dirty feeling hotel. Far from the IHG brand experience I’m used to.
Would not recommend
Staff here are brilliant!!! So helpful! Great value for money, especially with the use of pool etc and the amount of choice at breakfast!
Ok not great. Staff friendly but lots of food out of stock and didn’t know until we sat down for dinner and kids were settled. No pasta at all on children or adult menus . Shower tray in room was bit grubby too and knob fell off shower . Pool changing room not great either compared to other holiday inn we visited while travelling. No shampoo or conditioner and not as clean. Narrowest lane for families to swim. Breakfast fine
Hotel is very well situated for the M6 and Haydock Racecourse. From the outside it doesn’t look particularly attractive but it’s on a lovely setting and inside is lovely. The staff are good, attentive and friendly. Rooms are clean and modern. All in all a good hotel. My only small observations are the corridor lights are extremely bright and remain on all night. The TV’s are very old, not a biggy at all.
I’d definitely stay here again. We stayed one night, included evening meal and breakfast (which is very good) and paid just over £100 which is incredible value. The evening meal when included isn’t the full menu, but there was a good choice on the alternate menu.
We stayed Thursday night so it wasn’t too busy at all. Mainly working people having an overnight stay.
In conclusion, good hotel, good staff, good food and good location.
Just had a overnight stay here this weekend, had a great experience as I have never stayed at a holiday Inn before, but what a great experience, all the hotel staff were super friendly, from reception to bar staff and kitchen staff, room was great, and food was delicious but the stay was first class due to the hotel staff there, smiling warm and so easy to approach and willing to help with any query, definitely going to stay again, next time I am in haydock. Had 5 star treatment, myself and sister loved it.
Parking good….food good and plenty….staff so lovely and welcoming! Loved it!
Room looked satisfactory- until I pulled back the duvet to get into bed. I was horrified to see a badly stained , filthy mattress protector - no double sheet .It was disgusting - stains ( including blood) all over it .
I phoned Reception and Jake was marvellous & sent two ladies to our room to sort it out - they could not believe how bad it was & completely changed the bed .
Jake handled it very well and was very apologetic.
All of the staff were lovely- breakfast staff were very friendly even though they were rushed off their feet .
We have stayed at this hotel before as our relatives live nearby so we were disappointed this time.Parking was great .
Ok, just getting tired
Clean and comfortable room. It was extremely quiet in the room which was amazing! Great breakfast and friendly staff. Car park was busy but still plenty of spaces.
I booked this hotel for a few hours sleep following a late arrival home from holiday at 2am Saturday morning. When booking I made a mistake and booked for the Saturday (in my head I knew that was the day I got back so booked it for then). I noticed a few days later when we were on holiday already and emailed the hotel and asked if it was possible to swap the dates. At this point if they had said no I would have been fine and accepted MY mistake and booked another room at a different hotel, however they didn't they sent a lovely email back saying this was not a problem and instructions on how to amend the dates, which I completed immediately.
A few days passed and I then received an email saying the request was rejected, so I emailed again asking if there was a problem? At this point if they had said they actioned the form too late I would have been a bit upset but may have had time to sort different accommodation. This time a different employee messaged back saying it's no problem fill out the form again and he would sort it out but the date change was still on.
I tried to complete the date change again but the online form would not let you fill it out twice, so I tried a few different ways and ended up emailing back asking if he could do it his end and explained the issues, I gave them till the next day before I chased again (the day before I flew) but no response.
The day I was flying I tried one last chase and then started looking for an alternative which at this point (the day of arrival) there was nothing in the area that could offer a check in at early hours. So flew home hoping for them to honour the request they had approved.
Once I landed I called 3 times before I got through to the receptionist who was "very busy' (not sure what at that time on hotel reception of a small village) and couldn't even be bothered to look through the emails to check what I was saying and just refused to accept us at the hotel. She did advise me she would email me a confirmation of her refusing me a room for my complaint, then put the phone down and didn't bother emailing me anything, but she was busy...
I then spent a horrible w and a half hours trying to sleep in the car on a car park with my 10 yo daughter and wife so I felt safe to drive 3 hours back home to Scotland. Safe to say it wasn't the best sleep and didn't feel comfortable on the way home either.
Thanks for ruining the end of a great trip Holiday Inn!!
Quick and efficient check in and out
Very helpful staff
Hotel really needs an upgrade as property is falling apart in terms of room facilities and decor . Staff have no energy to be cheerful and lack the customer service response to new hotel guests.
No manager on site and water in the reception arrival did not have any ice or lemon to give it a taste . The water rated like tap water with chlorine rates.
