Classy older hotel with a nice bar
Close to shopping and dining. Helpful staff. More expensive than it should be though.
I checked in. Receptionist was fsntastuc.
Lovely clean room. Helpful and friendly staff. Shame the air conditioning unit was noisy and kicked in at 5am
A disappointing stay at HDV Cheltenham due to poor customer service. We were told 24 hours before our stay that, even as residential guests, we couldn’t get a table in the restaurant until late in the evening as it was full. 24 hours later they managed to “fit us in” at 6pm. The restaurant was barely 30% full when we arrived and remained that way until we left around 8pm - so quite why we were told tables weren’t available, I don’t know. They must lose so many bookings through incompetence.
The following morning, we were told we didn’t have late check out but could pay £15 for it - even though it was included in the specific package we booked, so I had to go to reception and prove it was included. No apology for their error or disputing that I had it included. So much for a relaxing lie in.
Finally, when I checked out, I was presented with a massive bill for a load of drinks that had been charged to my room by guests of the private event that was taking place the night before - even though I was clearly not part of the private event and specifically asked not to have a credit allowance on my account and to pay as I go. Why such a large amount of drinks were even allowed to be added to my room I don’t know and, again, no apology for their mistake.
Not the kind of customer service you expect at HDV. More like Fawlty Towers. We wouldn’t stay here again when other better options are available.
Check in was slow because people were being shown to their rooms and it was not until a young woman came out of a back office that we were welcomed. Unfortunately the lift was not working so as a 78 year old man I had to carry our suitcase up to the second floor. Not good! The room was clean and all that we needed, the bathroom was large with a big shower and very hot water, but it was dark so putting contact lenses in was a challenge. Our stay was on a Saturday and the hotel was being used by family groups and so it was quite noisy in the public areas. There is little parking space and the bays are quite narrow. Dinner and breakfast were fine.
Expected better
Stayed here a few times now. Rooms nicely decorated and comfortable. We were upgraded to a better room free of charge which was a lovely surprise. Check in staff member was friendly and efficient. The only negative was the air conditioning temperature it the room could have been colder. The air con unit was struggling with the really warm temperatures and couldn't go any cooler. However, we still slept well so it was fine. Montpellier is a lovely area with lots of restaurants and bars nearby.
Quick and friendly check in, bedroom spacious and well appointed - including an iron.
Bar service and ambiences amass very good , what key it down was the chaotic breakfast with no tables ready, poor service and explanation / greeting.
Stay was also let down by building work
Banging starting at 9 am on a Sunday !!
Very friendly staff, room fantastic, added bonus of free drink per night in bar if room not made up during stay
Lovely hotel and good quiet road
While the hotel is comfortable and the staff are friendly, we were disappointed with the allocated room and its ensuite considering the cost. I appreciate a premium is necessary due to the location but, to be honest, the standard overall was little better than a Premier Inn or Travelodge.
I have stayed in this hotel a number of times and every time is better than the last.
I didn’t give a full 5 star rating this time as the lift was not working. Apart from that everything and everyone was 5 star and I definitely recommend anyone visiting Cheltenham to stay at the Hotel du Vin
Our room was amazing! A large, beautifully decorated room with his and hers stand-alone baths! And a large walk in shower. Would definitely recommend.
We hope to go back.
What has happened to this place?
I have stayed in this hotel several times, but this will be my last.
The place is so dirty. Short staffed. I feel bad for the employees. The people who check you in also deliver your luggage, provide room service, and serve at the bar.
Hotel du vin is in an excellent hotel in a great location close to shops and centre. We upgraded to a junior suite planta room, which was very spacious. Breakfast was very good Park at front of possible it £10/ day
We’ve been loyal HDV guests for nearly 20 years, including our wedding at HDV Harrogate, and have always appreciated the quality—until our recent stay in Cheltenham.
After a 6-hour drive due to heavy traffic, we arrived at 7:05 PM, just five minutes after the Set Menu offer ended. Disappointingly, there was no flexibility or offer from the duty manager to check with the kitchen, so we dined elsewhere.
Later that night, we were kept awake by a loud noise (likely from an external vent or air system). At 12:15 AM, we called reception; they acknowledged the issue and moved us after 20 minutes—calling it an “upgrade,” which felt irrelevant at that hour.
We raised the issue the next morning and were told to expect follow-up or compensation, which still hasn’t happened.
Not what we expect from a premium hotel brand like HDV—more like a Travelodge experience at boutique prices. Really disappointing.
Beautiful hotel. Our suite was amazing and the bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were fantastic and remembered you in following conversations. Definitely recommend.
An excellent room awaited us, with a delightful bath/shower facility. A walk around Cheltenham, a lovely meal and our eyelids were drooping.
We went to bed earlier than ever before - and awake fully refreshed! A delicious full breakfast was there and we were on our way recharged and ready for the day. Excellent hotel - we will be going there again.
We had a beautiful room
