The location was not the best for what my son and I were there for but that came down to me choosing it for its excellent reviews rather than where it was. It was only about 35 minutes from where we needed to be the following day. However, as to its proximity to Newport, it was fine. Nearby there is an Asda where we popped over to to get some lunch bits. We weren't expecting to be able to check in until 3pm but as the room was ready, we were allowed in at 2pm.
We had considered eating dinner at The Dragonfly next door but the reviews were mixed so we opted to stay in and eat at the hotel. I had chicken goujons with sweet chili jam from the starters and a side order of skin on fries. My son chose a cheeseburger and fries. These were served very quickly and were piping hot and tasty. The menu isn't extensive however, there are various things to choose from...something for everyone...including fish, pies, curries, vegetarian and children's options.
Breakfast was a very welcome addition and consisted of a self serve variety of hot choices, ie scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, baked beans, grilled tomato. Also a variety of cereals, toast and preserves, muffins, juices and hot drinks. It kept us going until we got back home that evening.
There was a comfortable lounge area to sit and have a drink from the bar too so they really did have all we needed.
The staff here are all lovely...on arrival we were booked in by Rich who was very friendly and helpful.
The rooms we had were spotlessly clean, quality white towels, Dove handwash at the sink and Dove body wash and shampoo in the shower.
The bed was very comfy as were the pillows.
There was the usual compliment of tea, coffee etc in the room.
There is AC and heating in the room which are individually controlled. The windows can be opened too for fresh air.
There is a main road nearby but I did not find any noise obtrusive.
I definitely would stay here again if in that vicinity!
I only had one gripe.. I couldn't get the AC to stay off or the heating to stay on. So had to turn the unit off and was a little chilly during the night. If I go there again I will take my hot water bottle just in case.
Staff were lovely really helpful
I had booked the wrong one i thought id booked the one near the celtic manor but when we arrived they said id booked the wrong one.. so I had to travel 6 miles to thd hotel and 6 miles back to see the concert we had booked in the celtic.. my fault not theirs
