Friendly polite staff, clean and comfortable.
Beautiful relaxed setting and grounds
Loverly food
Excellent breakfast and friendly service. Beautiful gardens
Minor issue that I could not open the windows
The hotel is in a lovely spot. Nice and quiet. The staff are excellent and extremely helpful and polite. The gardens are well kept and offer somewhere to sit and relax (weather permitting)
The food was very good as well.
I would definitely come back.
The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. The rooms and public spaces were tasteful, clean and comfy, the garden was an absolute delight especially as we were lucky enough to have had very warm sunny weather for our 2 night stay. The bar and restaurant areas were very nice and the service spot on. There was a varied menu to suit all tastes and a good selection of local Galloway beers and wines from all over the world.
Very minor things, the food looked good but was not very tasty, the quality of the meat was a bit patchy and a wee bit tough, the portions for dinner and breakfast were a bit on the small side BUT still was well presented and worth trying.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property is set in a beautiful location with lovely surroundings that made it feel peaceful and relaxing. The staff were excellent, friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. The beds were also very comfortable, which made for a great night’s sleep.
There were, however, a few areas that could be improved. The bedrooms and bathrooms were on the small side, which made them feel a little cramped. The food was inconsistent throughout our stay. Some meals were delicious, with generous portion sizes, and the baked goods were excellent. However, other main meals and breakfasts were disappointing, particularly given the prices, and didn’t consistently reflect the standard we expected from this type of hotel.
We also felt there weren’t enough staff on duty to provide the level of service the hotel aims to offer at this price point. That said, the staff who were there were outstanding and worked incredibly hard to deliver the best service possible.
The breakfast was very good: freshly cooked and hot, with excellent coffee and toast.
The bar was somewhat basic, with no draft beer/lager.
Lovely restored hotel. Beautiful grounds Food was exceptional. Staff were lovely
Nothing
Beautiful hotel, great food and attentive, friendly staff
Nothing we didn't like
Clean and comfortable, friendly staff
Lack of a swimming pool and sauna facilities. Also the noise from the jackdaws that were nesting in the trees, so noisy.
All great thanks
Staff, grounds, meal...
Great food, exceptional dinner. Good breakfast. Very welcoming, dog friendly, delightful staff and owner.
Quiet location, comfortable bed, lovely room, yummy food, staff very polite and helpful. View from the back of the hotel stunning.
Everything was good
Staff are amazing, beautiful grounds, great food and super dog friendly
We stayed in the new Shepards hut - I think it could be great if a fridge was added and a more comfortable mattress/topper and if possible moved so not so near the road. Hotel rooms were great last time we stayed.
This place is homely and a rare find. The gardens are lovely and the place is very dog friendly. The staff are exceptional, kind and friendly. Gr
Eat food too.
House and gardens are beautiful and peaceful. Staff friendly and attentive, food very good. Will definitely return if back in the area. Very dog friendly but also have separate dining areas for those with/without dogs so that people are not subjected to furry friends if they prefer not.
Paid for a hotel room, hotel called to tell me it wasn't actually available and I would get a refund. Have email, gone thru PayPal and booking.com and have had zero comms from the hotel and obviously no refund
