First time stay here lovely room like in Italy. Dog welcome. Historic building lovely. Gr8 breakfast. Will definitely return
Nothing
The location for what we wanted, the beer garden.
It was filthy and smelly, needs a deep clean.
The rooms were comfortable, and felt modern for how old the house was. It was quiet, the bathroom was modern, wish I’d had the breakfast as it looked amazing and the bar space for it was super cute
There was a light that came on outsisde through the night. The second night I didn’t notice it but just a little negatative.
Everything was amazing
Location
No air conditioning in the room
The food in the restaurant was superb and the staff were lovely.
The decor in the bedroom and bathroom was poor. The ironing board was disgusting. The glass on the wardrobe door was broken. Carpet a bit dirty. Shower was difficult to regulate the temperature.
The bathroom smelt awful overnight, the shower was a trickle and there was a dangerously loose electrical switch plate in the bedroom.
Staff were attentive , polite and happy to help . The building was old with history. Facilities were good . Restaurant food was delicious and reasonably price. Car parking was excellent .
Nothing .
The outside of the building looked amazing, a Grade II historic building with such charm.
Unfortunately, the charm stopped at the front door. Upon entering, we walked to reception in the bar area. The lights were off and the vibe felt strange. But it was 8pm and they cater to locals, so that was fine.
The staff were extremely polite and friendly. The ladies were very kind and made us feel welcomed. So hats off to them.
We were given our key to Room 7 in the main building and directions to walk thru the bar and up the stairs. Great. Except the bar had a urine smell. There were a few people drinking (no problem) but the smell was worse than Wembley urinals during a footie match.
Found out room, opened the door and whoa, first thing noticed was the bed. The decor was outdated but I don’t mind as long as it’s clean and comfortable. The mattress had visible depression marks. It was so thin, it looked like it’s been there since the building was built. I sat on it and could feel the boxspring beneath it!
Moving on, the cleanliness was suspect. We saw stains on the drapes, carpet…the dust in the light fixture over the bed was disturbing. The rear paneling of the toilet was cracked and falling off.
My partner and I looked at one another and thought, “it would detract from our enjoyment of our holiday”. I have never left a hotel after check in, I typically love quirky, more local accommodation but this was arguably one of the worst places I have ever seen. For the money, you could stay in a soulless chain but it would be clean and cheerful.
Anyways, sadly, we left 30mins after checkin. I would have felt dirty sleeping in the bed. The staff were lovely in helping us. No fault of their. But this place old be so much more with a refresh and a deep clean.
Love this place. We got married here
History, quality of room
Nice staff , cozy bar and great breakfast
Rooms smelt a little damp
It is a beautiful building
Bells of the local church go off every hour through the night. The bathroom was dirty and the bathroom radiator was leaking and on all night so windows had to be open. Mattress was broken and worn and only option offered was camping bed mattresses to apply on top. Left 1 day early, they still tried to charge us another £45 for the dog fee. The receptionist reluctantly took this off my account. I wrote a letter of complaint to the hotel and have received no response. Worst nights sleep I’ve ever had any any hotel, hostel or air BnB. Sadly would not recommend.
