Hartnoll Hotel

This is one of my parent in laws favourite place to eat and go to events therefore was where we chose for the special birthday. The salmon was ok but quite salty. It did not need extra salt. The room we had for the party was a good size but they did not adhere to our requests for the tabs which made everything a little awkward. Was lovely to be catered for.

Delicious lunch at the Hartnoll Hotel today, with such excellent attention and service. The friendly team are especially careful with anyone who suffers from allergies, and always go above and beyond to adapt their menus for my wife Cathie to enjoy.

But I don’t know the guys name that was running the restaurant but he made us and everyone else feel important

We got upgraded to a superior room, which was a nice touch. We didn't use the gun safe, we forgot to bring them!!!

Nice comfy bed, good large shower and in general good standard of furniture and amenities.

Initial shower in the evening was tepid though, and the road was quite loud in the room. Double aspect windows flooded the room with light which was great

Very overpriced and sub standard service. Staff not fully trained and over booking left it difficult for them to cope.
Not the standard we expected for a special Chistmas lunch. No chance to socialise. Champagne reception was non existent, no chance to even take my coat off before being rushed through. So disappointing that some people left early. No finesse at all for a hotel of this quality. I could go on and on. What was to be a very special occasion turned out to be very very disappointing and grossly overrated.

Been before but not for a while - went for Sunday dinner with husband and daughter (11)) and could nut recommend it more!
The food is great and the atmosphere relaxing bug the thing that sticks out is the service - it is phenomena. So attentive without being intrusive you feel really looked after but not fussed around
The front of house staff are brilliant and having a proper front of house manager who spotted everything definitely allows this place to stand out

Stayed hear a few times before when in the area on business.
Last visit in early December our room was cold and there was no hot water.
We got told this is because it’s an old building and we was offered an electric fan heater.
Food is over rated and over expensive, the staff behind the bar will charge you a service charge on your bill without even asking if this is ok.
On our most recent visit we was told we can not park outside as our vehicle is not a Range Rover or defender.
So if you drive a Range Rover or Defender you should have no trouble parking.
Everyone one else will have to dodge the potholes a park in the unlit gravel car park out the back. Bring your wellies as the potholes are deep.
We ordered the fish and chips for our evening meal, apparently there was a delay in the meal as the chef mistook no batter for no butter.
When the food finally arrived both had batter. So they took one away and left one on the table, fifteen minutes later they returned with a half size fish with no batter. One meal was stone cold and the other looked more like a child’s portion.
Will never stay again. £ 400.00 for two nights in a cold room with no hot water.

Where to start well exceptional would be a good place my husband son and I went for lunch on the 11th December for my husband’s birthday the level of service was without doubt of the highest standard the quality of food and how sympathetically it was cooked was above and beyond nothing was rushed and within a blink of an eye two and a half hours had gone by and even the bill was a pleasant surprise incredibly well priced for the quality we received we consider ourselves very lucky to have this gem on our doorstep

Had a work Christmas party .. for some reason the hotel thought it was acceptable to allocate where you sit .. and are not happy if you move . I understand this makes their job easier as they know where to deliver the pre ordered food , but , friends separated etc . Customers should be able to chose where they sit .
Food was ok , starter very small ( but delicious) main was a really good portion but the meat didn’t looked cooked properly.. I saw several being returned, I just chose not to eat most of mine .
As soon as dessert was eaten we had to give up our table to enable the staff to set up for the disco , was told to go to the casino table ( pointless gimmick ).
I must say , I had high expectations for the dinner / night but unfortunately they were not met . Wouldn’t rush back .

stayed at this hotel for a wedding we decided to stay a bit longer so we could use the spa this hotel could do with a change of management and a customer service adviser we complained at the hotel and got nowhere so sent an email when we got hone but this was never answered which is a shame as when we booked we thought as it is fairly close to home we could use the hotel and spa often would not go again even if someone paid for it

45 minutes after we arrived, the food arrived. It had taken a while to catch a waiter's attention as it did when we wanted to order our dessert. We are regular visitors to lunch at the Hartnoll and it was sad that in the absence of a senior waiter, chaos was the result. When we queried why it had taken so long to get our meal, the waiter said it was because every body had arrived at once. Poor excuse; most restaurants ensure that table bookings are spaced out to avoid this. When we were waiting (for quite a long time) to order the dessert, the waiter seemed to think that clearing the adjacent table was a priority rather than attending to the current customers!
The food was OK.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at the hotel. All staff were first class and nothing was missed. Rooms were very clean, tidy and comfortable.
The atmosphere was buzzing from the moment we walked in the front door to reception. Location just off the M5 was first class.
Value for money and that can be seen in the first class food that they serve.
The food was exceptional and it made for such a great weekend to celebrate my daughters engagement.
Please pass on our thanks to all staff for making it so special for my daughter and her future husband.

Stopped by and had a lovely lunch. Food was delicious and service was great.
Choice on the set menu was very good. We will definitely call in again.

My friend has booked a lunchtime meal for a few of us. I have perused the menu but cannot find a wine list. Most hotels/restaurants display a wind list, I find this quite strange that it is not on their website.
After our visit I will review our experience.

We went back to the Hartnoll hotel and stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast and it is as good as it ever was. Nelson and David were looked after your every need and personalised the experience. The food was top quality as it always is. A great hotel, with great staff and great food 👍

We attended the mid Devon show and the hotel was only 3 mins from the showground and only just off the motorway so easy to find!
We booked into the dog friendly annex, plenty of room for the 2 of us and one dog. Lovely bathroom and was nice to have our own front door, made it easier to take the dog out for the toilet.
Staff we really nice and couldn’t do enough for you.
Garden was lovely and was allowed to let the dog off to play with his ball.
Comfy bed and good breakfast, would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Visited for one night as a birthday treat for my husband. We ate in the restaurant and the food was outstanding. The superior room was very nice and very clean and comfortable . The staff were excellent and the spa was lovely. Nothing to complain about with the beautiful hotel itself. Unfortunately our stay was spoilt because of the incredibly loud music playing from the garden which the room overlooked. It was playing when we arrived at 4pm until very late at night … midnight! This was clearly a private function in the garden. It was impossible to sleep with the constant base beats of the dance music. It was like trying to sleep above a night club. This absolutely ruined a lovely night away. Constant noise for all those hours. The stay wasn’t cheap so to feel like your staying in a council estate with noisy neighbours and not the countryside is a huge disappointment to say the least! I would suggest that the management warn guests that there is an event booked so they can have an option to cancel and rebook. What would have been a lovely experience became a terrible one.

We travel to The Hartnoll Hotel twice a year for a family meal and have done for 10 years or so. We have always had excellent service and amazing food. Nelson and the restaurant team are always faultless and so welcoming. We honestly couldn’t fault it.

What a perfectly run hotel. Very relaxing sitting under an umbrella, soaking up the beautiful garden. The food was top class. In the evening we sat in the lounge for a pub meal, and it was great. The room was beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Staff were very welcoming.
