Ideal location for my journey
Lovely food
Window in room did not open and fan too noisy to sleep extremely hot at night
Bar & restaurant facilities excellent, Staff friendly, effective, Food excellent, Breakfast excellent
We stayed during the hot weather and the room was very hot, Fan was available in the room but was of limited effect. limited bathroom with not a lot of space, no 'cool' shower. Ventilator/extraction motors outside room 3 window. Doors locked till 9am
The bar/restaurant. Good choice of drinks and food was excellent.
The room was quite basic, well worn, window was painted out (ie no visibility), and stains on carpet. We sat in the beer garden with a drink and spotted 2 rats!
Position
The room was above the kitchen fans and noisy.
Room with stain glass window very good .
Food menus.
We found the food very disappointing - cheese and onion pie looked good on the menu but turned out to be an inch deep puddle of hot cheese at the bottom of a pie dish. There was quite a gap between the filling and the pastry! Very hard to eat and lacking any texture in the cheese. Moroccan spiced chicken thighs were very good; however, they were served on what was described on the menu as date and cashew nut rice. This was sticky and solid - I went back to the menu to check, but it was not described as sticky rice so presumably just a failure of cooking on this occasion. It contained sultanas but no sign of dates or even a single cashew nut.
Service was acceptable but it seemed hard even to get eye contact with the staff, they were generally offhand and didn’t comment or even enquire if everything had been all right when removing half-full plates from the table.
We had looked forward to our visit to the Royal but we’re not likely to be back any time soon.
Slep like a log! Good bed.
Lovely old pub by the canal, delicious supper and breakfast, simple, comfortable accommodation and really nice staff.
Stayed for 2 nights while working and unfortunately I was out early and back late shattered , Room was spot on for the money , staff are nice , Food looked great and a lovely garden out back to sit and relax with a drink , I'll be booking again when I'm back up this way with the family .
Nothing the place is good .
Staff were friendly, dinner was fab, parking was easy and the canal walk at the end of the garden was lovely.
Breakfast was too late, 9am, so we didn't bother.
Nice atmosphere in the bar / resturant area - food was very good with great menu choices
Noise coming through the wall from adjoining room in early hours from their TV
Horrendous and overpriced! We went for a meal with my recently widowed aunt, supposed to be a treat as we hadn't seen her for quite some time. The food was horrible, the fish was greasy, and the triple-cooked chips had been triple-cooked so many times they were almost black! The staff were useless. We arrived a few minutes early, and it seemed to cause a major problem, as they had nowhere to seat us until our table was ready, until I insisted on sitting down somewhere. The bar top was sodden with beer spills; it seemed that none of the staff knew how to use a cloth! I didn't complain as I didn't want to upset my aunt. But if I had been there on my own, I would have sent food back and walked out without paying a penny. We've had a few dodgy times there in the past, and only risked it again because it was local and not too far for my aunt to travel, but this was the worst experience by far. We won't be back.
Just had our planned 1 night stop cancelled by Venue due to maintenance. Only effected oour room, I enquired if our room was the only 1 effected, yes because it's only 1 night.
Dont lie !! Probably had a booking for longer. Thats how the treat people.
If you cant rely on integrity when booking how can a trip be planned in advance! S##t attitude.
There were six of us in our party and we were liked after really well by the staff, both when we booked and at dinner. A fantastic experience. The food was superb and the surroundings very nice. Thanks - we will be back.
Location, food in pub was good
No towels in room, and could have been cleaner
