Quirky and unusual layout using an old building
Nothing
The property is lovely, an old style building with lots of character
I found the bed uncomfortable and the pillows were skimpy but that is my only criticism. The staff members are lovely and the service was excellent
Location was well situated between both parts if the city i.e. quite equidistant. Breakfast was reaaly great and there was flexibility as we were able to check in early.
Nothing.
Staff were good and friendly.
Breakfast was not as good as expected - very busy, items missing and food not hot enough.
Perfect location, lovely atmosphere, delicious food and very good staff.
Only improvement would be to have the TV on a moveable stand so better comfort in seating area while watching TV
Breakfast was fresh & a good range, friendly staff, reception team very helpful when we had an issue. Overall a very positive stay.
We liked everything

Additional expenses
Negatives first - we were put in the annexe and there’s a horrible smell over there like a damp, sewer smell and it’s horrible. Thankfully our room was far enough away we didn’t smell it in there. There’s apparently underfloor heating in the bathrooms centrally controlled but it wasn’t on during our stay and the air con had a mind of its own. One thing…the safe doors are a pain. If you don’t use them they’re open all the time and clatter off the wardrobe door and your head every time you use the fridge! No bubble bath. Positives - room was gorgeous, bed was super comfortable, bedding great, spotlessly clean, lots of hot water, gorgeous deep bath, lovely service from staff. Great location for seeing York and getting to and from the station. Road is busy but not noisy. Expensive though - we used an itison voucher with dinner & breakfast and paid less than £200 To add an additional night with no breakfast they quoted £320 which is insane. I’d definitely return on the deal. I’d never pay the asking price. Shame as I’d definitely have stayed another night if it has been reasonable.
Decent size of the room, breakfast with option for cooked breakfast or continental, tasty and good service. Location wise is 7 minutes walk to center
no cold water option for shower and infestation of ladybugs in room- the reception was inform after 1st night but nothing change. On top the bathroom floor was moving and grout was coming out , is not very nice to step on sharp grout.
For over £600 for 3 nights I have expected some sleepers and bathroom robes.
Everything from start to finish was exceptional! Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, helpful and professional. The room was beautiful, clean and spacious. The breakfast was well done, and catered to my allergy needs. Location was central but quiet, the hotel grounds were lovely. On check out they kindly offered to hold our bags so we could have a stress free day exploring before heading back - top class service! Wish we could have stayed another night.
No negatives! Best hotel stay we have had in a long time.
We’ve stayed here a few times now and it’s always a solid choice. Good location with a short walk into town, plus plenty of on-site parking which is a real bonus in York.
The building is characterful and right next to the racecourse. There’s a nice, cosy bar and the lunch food is very good. We haven’t tried breakfast or dinner so can’t comment on those.
Rooms are comfortable and well presented, and overall it represents good value for money.
A dependable York option we’d happily return to.
Liked the location, staff were excellent. Very helpful and professional and we were greeted warmly with room ready well before check in time
Special mention to breakfast and bar staff. Very welcoming, knowledgeable about York and a credit to hotel. Breakfast was superb too!
Bed wasn’t well made and room was smaller than we expected
Gorgeous hotel in fab location
