Great stay. Staff were consistently friendly & professional. Governors Suite room was spacious, well-kept & very comfortable for a weeks’ stay. Five restaurant options provided plenty of choices. Good to very good food overall although I wish they had more bowls with veggie & protein options beyond salads. Decent gym. Management was responsive when I mentioned there were no towels or cleaning wipes in the gym, and they corrected that. Peaceful atmosphere, less busy and crowded than a large all-inclusive. Good value for what we paid. Easy to reach from the EIS airport & ferry service was prompt & convenient. Overall very nice facilities & we will consider returning next year.
Stayed here for three nights before a charter. The hotel seemed pretty much empty, but the dock was full as it was 'full-moon party' time across in Trellis Bay. I had asked for a non-marina view room in advance as we did not want the noise from the docks, and we were allocated one overlooking Marina Cay, which was nice (N.B. despite the name, it's an island, not a marina!).
The room was rather 'corporate' with no real local touches, which felt like a missed opportunity, but was a good size with all expected amenities, and a nice balcony with a couple of chairs. Whilst that balcony space was at a premium, squeezing in a small table would be an improvement for coffee mugs, drink glasses, camera etc.
We had breakfast for the first two mornings. Both times we were the only guests. Service was good, and the food tasty, but the cappuccinos were very poor.
The pool area was lovely, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. The spa pool/jacuzzi was rather on the warm side, but pleasant enough. As the boats mooring on the dock were able to buy 'resort passes' to access the pool facilities, the pool area became packed by lunchtime, which meant longer waits to be served at the swim-up bar, and a much less relaxed experience generally with boat crews of 8 or so people each filling up the pool area. The lower pool area was much quieter, but the bar there wasn't open. We had an unfortunate misunderstanding with our bill as it seemed to have been mixed up with another customer's with the same surname, meaning we were presented with a bill for hundreds of dollars for just a couple of drinks. Fortunately after some discussion this was resolved. The bar staff were trying their hardest but seemed very short-staffed for the volume of people they had to deal with.
We did the Wednesday evening 'North Beach' party, but probably wouldn't do so again. The (buffet) food was nice, albeit they ran out of most desserts before we got up to choose one, but the entertainment wasn't really our cup of tea, with conga and 'YMCA' dancing around the pool.
The ferry to and from Trellis Bay was timely and convenient, and the hotel organised our taxi to Roadtown after we had checked out. The ferry also takes people to and from Marina Cay, which has a great restaurant. We ate there whilst at Scrub, and then again once on charter, and both times it appeared full with queues for tables. We would have liked to try the watersports there (Hobie Cat) but it was closed on the day we were interested in.
The Scrub staff were generally friendly, but the majority were clearly on 'island time' most of the time, with no sense of urgency for anything, including our bags being collected from our room for check-out; with 15 mins to go before our ferry departure, the promised assistance had not arrived, so my husband carried all our bags down to the ferry by himself (lots of steps and no lift).
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Scrub, and would probably return, but I would hesitate to book in peak periods.
We stayed for one night in the marina. The marina staff was great! Very helpful when we arrived. The last time we stayed here was about 10 years ago and the owners have not put much money into it since. It is a great location, and had a lot of amenities for kids but the place is just starting to get worn down. It really is a shame. They have a water slide, but there is a chunk of cement missing and could use a new paint coat. There is a trampoline in the water, but hasn't been blown up in about two months. We ate dinner and the staff was great but there was a lifetime show blasting on all the TVs that really brought the ambiance down. As much as the kids had fun at the pool, I am not sure we will be back until updates are made.
We stayed here two nights in an OV king and were pleased.
We had looked at this many times when a Marriott property and stayed this trip when transferring between VG and Tortola.
The ferry trips were included and on time and also included a stop at their Marina Cay for a lobster lunch.
Housekeeping was terrific as were the bellmen.
We dined at Cardamom for breakfasts and dinners and they were fine.
The North beach was nicer than the marina side though neither great. At least the main pool had a hot plunge pool.
We were happy with our stay though think it best for short stopovers.
Beautiful view
Pool very nice

Hotel management did not tell us or advise on web site main restaurant fine dining closed during our stay
Front desk clueless about activities going on this week
Front desk said they made reservations for dinner but on arrival no reservations had been made
Gymnasium has lots equipment but at least half nonfunctional
One treadmill cheap brand for whole gym
Suggests to me they are very pressed for cash
May be better to come another season when things are improved
Only 40 % occupancy this week
The hotel was at 40% occupancy per front desk. Their restaurant was only the Donovan’s Reef (bar) at pool. VERY limited menu. Mostly bar food. They said it was on website. That is not true. I’ve been all over the website as have my friends and we don’t see anything about this.
The gym equipment doesn’t work. Old and dilapidated. Took almost 45” to get eggs for breakfast this morning. One other party in restaurant. Holes in the curtains in room. Lights in palm trees disconnected and inoperable. Main restaurant not open though not stated on website. They told us upon arrival that Wednesday was festival night but our friend called night before and they told him it wasn’t happening yet. Website flyer page doesn’t specify at all. It isn’t happening. Staff seems to be ill equipped to answer questions. They also need to clean up their website with current information to clarify for high and low season offerings.
I would not return here. It is cost for first class prices and not first class experience. We will go to Bitter End next time.
This Marina was great, all the amenities you get with your slip, amazing! The pools are wonderful as well as the work out center. The pools bar was fun and lots to do as far as games and entertainment throughout the day. It is a nice place to stop mid trip to get to some clean showers and fun activities.
We have been to Scrub Island resort multiple times over the last ten years. The views are beautiful.
However, this year was disappointing. With rates for a 4/5 star hotel the facility was sub-par. A highlight was the spa.
Communication was lacking and maintenance needs improvement.
A/C never cooled the room to temperature.
Hot water heater for friends room didn’t work.
Bar/restaurant workers at Donovan’s reef seemed disinterested in serving.
We were not informed about the amenities that were not available.
The return ferry to Trellis Bay to catch our plane was 15 minutes late waiting on a captain.
The reply to my survey left me flat, with only excuses. No indication the issues were being worked or resolved.
Sent a note to Mainsail Hotels, the corporate headquarters, and have not received acknowledgment nor a reply.
Sorry to say, we won’t return.
A Perfect Day at Scrub Island Resort & Ixora Spa ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Scrub Island never disappoints! As someone living in Tortola, I can say it’s always worth the trip.
We went over around 11am, relaxed by the pool, had a tasty lunch, and later checked into our room. Dinner was such a surprise—the food, service, and atmosphere honestly felt like a fine-dining experience. Since it was my birthday, the team (and even the chef!) made sure it felt extra special.
The next morning started with coffee and yoga with Debbie Mathioudaki—she set the tone for such a relaxing day. After that, a massage and pedicure had me feeling completely renewed. What I love most is that it feels so luxurious, but also super friendly and welcoming at the same time.
Whether it’s a birthday, a spa day, or just lunch and pool time, Scrub Island is the perfect escape. Huge thanks to Alex and Debbie for their passion and kindness—you made it unforgettable!
A 5 star review doesn’t even begin to describe the stellar experience I had at Scrub Island. I came to the island a few years ago but I must say this time, my experience was even more exceptional. Every detail of my stay appeared to be perfectly curated just for me, from the time the boat approached the property to our yoga class at the spa. My weekend at the property was just moment of relaxation I needed. Thank you to the management and staff for an outstanding commitment to hospitality.
Just had a wonderful stay celebrating a friend's Birthday! Dinner was lovely and the room was fresh and clean. Had a calm and refreshing yoga session in the morning before heading to the spa for one of the best massages I have ever had. A special thank you to Mr. Alex and his lovely Wife Debbie (our yoga instructor) for making our stay extra special! Already looking forward to my next trip!!
Scrub Island is a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the best of the BVI’s from this base camp. Everyone on the island is very kind including KK, lady D, Dinesh, Sadiq, Eoma Sakim? and all the drivers… We also had fantastic service at the IXORA spa with Santi and Anisa performing highly skilled treatments in a lovely setting. We really recommend the Wednesday night barbecue which is set up beautifully at the North Beach and includes live music a wonderful buffet and sky dancers. Keep in mind this is all Island fare, but still presented beautifully and tasty. We also had the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail party before this buffet which was very nice. On the food side stand out servers were Gusti, Mia and really all of the others. Carl takescare of the bar and restaurant management very well and was able to address the only issue we had promptly and kindly. All of our drivers were great people… Would highly recommend scrub Island but recommend having access to a boat to get around to nearby Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke etc. they do provide ferry service to some of these places via Tortola but the boat makes everything much quicker. We had a great time and highly recommend Captain Vern from Island time charters. we all a great stay and looking forward to returning to Scrub!
This was one of the best experiences we've ever had. The hotel is spectacular, as is the shuttle service and the hotel staff. The only thing I didn't like is that when you purchase the stay package, they don't tell you about the room and service fees, and then they charge you at the end of your stay, which are unavoidable. But the stay was truly spectacular!!!
What an unbelievable place, stay, and experience. The people at Scrub were wonderful, courteous, and unbelievably friendly. Cannot recommend it more!
We loved the place. Awesome, just Awesome.
I'm not on the property yet; this will be my second time. It's breathtaking! This time I want to write about the Spa. I had the pleasure of speaking with Arun, who corrected my online booking error by creating a new request for the right date and time. He was a pleasure to speak with; he took his time to understand my issue. Arun displayed excellent customer service. I'm looking forward to spa experience because I know it will be special.
Relaxing
Staff needs help!!! Horrible service and regards for guest!
Property was decent for the price but they need to work on staff and educate the understanding that most people travel miles to be there. We found it very sad to see the lack of hospitality and attention. Every bill adds 20% which isn't an issue but most servers take it as a standard. Please work on employee moral.
This was our 2nd visit to Scrub Island Resort since July 2024. Our Deluxe 1-BR Suite overlooking the marina was beautiful, comfortable and well maintained by the Housekeeping Staff! Transport service to North Shore Beach and by ferry to and from Trellis Bay was efficient and courteous! Ramona at One Shoe Beach Bar and Junior on the Ferry always provided excellent service with a “Can Do” attitude! This IS a Beautiful place!
Sadly though, I have to agree with several other Reviewers who discovered complacent if not lackadaisical attitudes toward guests in the area of hospitality and restaurant/bar service! Apparently hiring is done on a basis of urgency to fill staff positions with hopes of training them afterwards! This IS NOT WORKING!! Also, the multiple extra fees that show up on the final check out statement that are not revealed during the booking process is just wrong. (Daily Resort Fees and Daily Room Service Fees when we never ordered anything from Room Service is hard to understand). Sure, I CAN accept the 20% SVC CHG on all Restaurant charges to be split among the food service staff, but this seems to only serve to facilitate a mediocre attitude among the staff who deal directly with the guests! Not sure what the answer is ~ perhaps bringing in Mel Robbins for a weekend of coaching in the offseason.
I’ll probably not be back unless I hear of more JOY in the staff interactions with the guests…”Let them!”
