We stayed at the Hilltop Inn, Salmon Arm and I will never stay there again. The beds were so bad I couldn't sleep and neither could my son nor his wife. The beds are only doubles and in most places today they are queens. Went and bought an air mattress and put it on the floor so one of us could sleep the second night. Tried even sleeping across the bed but it still hurt my back. Wrecked our weekend there. In the bathroom there is no place to put soap or anything in the shower except the floor and I have trouble getting to the floor so never showered. We had reservations for 3 and they only gave us towels for 2. Their pool does look nice but because off lack of sleep and an extremely sore back and things we needed to attend, did not use it. The AC unit was very loud even on low setting so it was almost impossible to sleep because of the noise. I will say that it worked well, it was just too loud and probably could do with replacing. Oh, I will say that the one lady I spoke with at the front desk, she was very nice. My son signed us out and when they asked how our stay was and he tried to tell them they did not seem interested. Do not ask if you truly do not care. It is more money than a much nicer place we stayed at when we were in Salmon Arm two months earlier and that place also gave us free breakfast. The Hilltop does not give you breakfast. Unfortunately when we tried to book at the first place for this stay they had no vacancies.
The Hotel was booked by our tour operator. The rooms were clean and spacious. Although we requested for King bed, we were given two queen beds.
The outdoor pool looked very good, however we did not go for a swim. There is no restaurants to have dinner within quick walking distance from the hotle and the restaurant at the Hotel is closed. Have dinner in town before you check into the hotel as it is about 15-20 minutes walk from the Hotel.
Rooms were well equipped with Coffee machine, and toiletries.
Overall good value for money and for a one night stop over.
Positive: Bed was comfortable and A/C worked great.
Negative: Room was filthy. Bathroom was so bad that the tiles on floor were cracked, pulling up and missing grout because when you used the shower the water just spilled over and surrounded the toilet. Had to throw all towels on the floor just to soak it up so I could get out of the bathroom.
Went to use fridge and spilt food looked like an ant hill was forming under the door.
We arrived about 20 minutes before the 4:00PM check in. The clerk asked for our credit cared and ID and then we were told we could not check in until 4:00PM. we were told to go wait somewhere until then. There is no compassion for long distance travelers. Coming back, we were again asked for a credit card and ID! Then there is a $50.00 deposit for the key cards! We have stayed at a lot of hotels but never had this issue before. No big deal really except it takes them a long time to credit it back. Our room was fair except the mattress was old and hard as a rock. We both woke up stiff and sore the next morning. We were on the second floor in the two story next to the main building. No elevator for heavy luggage. No ice machine or services of any kind. One had to go to the main building on the second floor for ice!! And then a sign is posted not to take too much 'cause the machine would have to work hard. Never coming back here again. A good night sleep was not possible and there is no service and no breakfast.
The pool was the only saving grace of this property. The room and furnishings were dated, and the bed was uncomfortable. In the evening if the window was open the truck traffic outside was too loud for sleeping, and with the window closed the AC was so loud it felt like a truck was in the room. Apparently we were in the “old wing”… and it definitely showed.
The pool area is fabulous. Like you are at a resort. 2 hotubs one upstairs ( where we were staying) was nice for a late night soak.
Very convenient
Clean room; pleasant staff
Staff were friendly, pool was very clean.
Good stay. Nousy if staying on the highway side.
We only stayed one night and it suited our needs. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open on the evening we arrived. But its a pleasant stay.
The room we were originally booked into was absolutely horrible, the floor was rotten in the bathroom, to the point i nearly fell through. The cleanliness was out the window, big stain on the floor, the smell was so bad and the fridge was left with previous items. One call to the dest and they upgraded us to the "new building " and it was much better. Super clean, nice and quite, and made the stay much better
Ive stayed at Hotels and Hostels the world over and have to say this is one of the worst experiences we have ever had. Starting with checking in 4-5 young adults standing around chatting and looked at us like we ruined there afternoon very rude. The pool was advertised as a great spot. The Water in both the pool and hottub was so dirty you could barely see the bottom. Hair, bugs dirt and who knows what else. The room was barely cleaned and you could smell and see the dust and filth. For the price they charge they should be ashamed of themsleves. Ive stayed in old Motels that look like 4 star resorts compared to this property.
Plenty of parking.
The hot tub was nice after we'd been on a long hike the previous day
Unfortunately on the evening we arrived the hotel restaurant was not open (it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) so we had to walk into the town for dinner and the route is not great on foot
I have stayed at this hotel several times and this was the first time that i found that my room carpet was dirty. The hotel is now really old and probably requires a renovations. My bed was especially not very comfy even though everything else was great. The outdoor pool is always fun and is the best thing about the hotel. The restaurant has now been sold and breakfast is no longer included which his sad as they used to have a great breakfast.
We stayed here for one night on our way to the kootenays and it did the trick. Friendly front desk staff got us checked in/out quickly and plenty of parking. The rooms were nothing fancy (a bit dated) but absolutely did the trick. Didn't have a chance to check out the pools but they looked impressive.
room had vertical blinds with several section missing hard to keep exterior lighting out and views inside the room Had shoddy repairs to the wall behind the pool side door havent seen double bed in a hotel room in years
The thing I remember most is there was a balcony off the room that overlooked a long arm of the nice pool.
There was a hot tub on the second floor where we stayed
There was a restaurant attatched to the facility that was quite good
You could walk under the highway down to the cool old wharf.
The place was close to everything in Salmon Arm
So nice having the little kitchenette in the unit
The room was not comfortable
