Friendly staff, cozy room
Kitchen extractor very near the window, smell of cooking and noise in room
There was gluten-free bread which is important as I have coeliac disease. One day I was the only person having breakfast but they provided everything I needed, and had listened to feedback from my last stay! Atmosphere friendly and caring, and polite attentive staff. External ly the grounds were well kept and tidy as always.
My room was lovely and warm but perhaps a bit too warm when I was not using the room. Don’t want you to waste expensive energy!
Nice room. Nice building
Couldn't turn bathroom heater off made room very warm
Our room, venue, location, friendly manager, parking
Confusion over last order time for cooked breakfast
The apartment was great. Spacious, clean and beds comfortable.
Cooked breakfast was disappointing. Hash browns and baked beans unavailable. Bacon and sausage not the nicest either. Scrambled egg very dry.
Dripping tap in the apartment and could’ve done with a tea towel.
Location
The room facilities were dusty, mattress well over used. Walls are thin- you can hear everyone passing by and talking. First I thought Some staff talking all night downstairs - couldn’t sleep all night - appears the night porter is listening radio/some program on his phone so loud I could hear on the first floor - all night… Asked for an invoice On the check out (3am) - night porter was a bit rude trying to convince that hotel doesn’t do it. Not a great experience
Easy to park outside, place had character
In dire need of investment/renovation. Breakfast pretty poor and playing random rap music at 7:30am in the morning which was an interesting experience but not particularly a relaxing one.
Period property. Very friendly staff. Food was very good.
Bath in bathroom was small with a shower head, rather impractical for people over 6ft.
Friendly place and lovely breakfast
Nothing
Young female staff were very pleasant.
Quality of room and whole hotel. It was grubby.
Furniture was damaged and very dated.
Service at breakfast and lunch slow and inconsistent.
Always have the English breakfast. Never disappoints
Not much. The lady who served breakfast was very friendly and efficient.
Where to start? After a long wait to check in at the reception of a tired looking building we were given keys to a drab and dated room. Ok, for the price we paid we couldn't complain because at least it was clean.
We had booked a meal at the hotel restaurant for convenience as we were going to an event at theatre nearby. We went down for dinner a little early so didn't expect our table to be ready immediately and ordered a drink at the bar while we waited and waited and waited. When it got to half an hour past the time of booking and we still weren't seated or even acknowledged apart from given some low quality printed A4 menus we gave up on our plan of the 3 course option and decided on the two course option due to time constraints.
After eventually placing our order for main courses we were shown through to the 'restaurant' another drab and dated room with awful piped music and only two more diners already seated. The mains of steak and chips arrived and were nothing special, reminiscent of a home cooked meal and not in a good way.
Mains were cleared and the desert menu was supplied. After browsing the menu we made our choices only to be told, along with the other couple that three out of the five choices were actually sold out. Disappointed to say the least but not surprised to hear that the manager was not available for us to discuss the issues although we were offered a drink on the house in way of compensation for the slowly delivered substandard part meal we had endured.
To top it off, the shower in our room supplied cold water only and the hot tap in the basin didn't work at all.
Breakfast was actually quite nice and the lady serving it very pleasant and unfortunately seemed to be the only member of staff with any level of competence.
If this hotel stay had been marketed as a Fawlty Towers experience it would have been exceptional but as it is then one to definitely avoid
