options for breakfast
No fresh coffee , only machine which was disappointing
Beds are comfortable and the reception staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.
Vegan breakfast was good. Evening meal had limited vegan options but better than many others.
A mistake was made over a dinner order but we appreciated the fact that the waiters admitted it was their fault and they corrected it.
The best hotel we stayed in amongst four in the Cumbria area.
Parking is limited and difficult.
The location is amazing beautiful scenery all around. Hotel situated a few minutes from the station. The hotel itself was stunning and the food was exceptional. The staff extremely pleasant and accommodating, rooms very clean and bed was extremely comfy ... We're going to rebook in the near future out weekend was very special and romantic, would most definitely recommend.
Nothing at all wish we had more time there .
The staff were fantastic. We were very impressed and welcomed. They made the dog special. He has never had so much attention paid to him. They brought biscuits, water and cuddles aplenty. The room was beautiful. The bed was super comfy and the food in the bar and restaurant were superb and really good value for money. The grounds were awesome so so good. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and there is usually a member of staff a member of staff who can be grumpy, but these staff were all superb.
A couple of small gripes.
No safes in the rooms.
We stayed in the penthouse and it was beautiful.
All very good.
Great Rooms, Great Staff, Lovely Ambience, Breakfast disappointing
We stayed two nights at the Grange Hotel, and I chose it based wholly on its good reviews, most of which are totally accurate and justified. Following a strange booking episode, I upgraded to a Superior Room at the front for a very reasonable fixed cost. The hotel is popular so on arrival I was unable on a whim to add the extra Friday night.
We were able to check in an hour early as the room was ready. Parking in close vicinity of the hotel building at the top of the driveway is limited especially if you are elderly or infirm. There is limited parking for about 7 or 8 cars which includes staff at the driveway top, and three spaces are supposedly for disabled blue badge holders. These were at times inevitably taken up by non-blue badge holders. There is a car park further down the driveway and a footpath to walk up to the hotel, however parking on site at all, could be difficult in the summer season. I would have been struggling with or without bags as it is quite steep. When we went out for dinner one evening, we got a taxi, so I did not lose my parking spot at the hotel building. There are parking spaces for 2 or 3 electric cars to re-charge by the building.
As soon as you walk into the Hotel reception area, you are hit by the décor and the ambience of the hotel. It’s warm and inviting and you really want to stay there as soon as you enter. Check in in was a doddle and we had a lovely superior room at the front of the hotel on the first floor. Lifts are efficient and quick but limited to 3 persons. The room was delightful and I was immediately impressed by the furnishings and fittings. Everything was top quality. Large king-size bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a large Smart TV with all the latest Apps.
The entrance door to the room was a double door and it was not a heavy-duty timber door. There was some light and noise incursion under the door from the corridor at night, but it wasn’t intru
In the morning, we went into the big breakfast room, and I immediately noted that there were only two staff even though the room was very busy. It became clear immediately that the whole experience was going to be self- service, buffet type except for the choice of eggs delivered to your table. No tablecloths on the tables, cafeteria type atmosphere and little paper serviettes.
On the way into Breakfast, a lady we had met the previous night said, “Don’t bother with the Eggs Benedict and the Coffee out of the machine isn’t up to much”.
Despite this warning, I ordered smoke salmon and scrambled eggs and Martha had a cheese and tomato omelette. These were subject to an additional charge of £4 each. I specifically asked for the scrambled eggs to be runny or loose and when it arrived, the eggs were dry and overcooked and there were black edges on parts of the salmon. Marha’s Omelette looked like a burnt pancake folded over. It was flat, small and the tomato content was a whole half of a tomato dumped in the middle. The plates were cold, so the food was cold. I did complain to one of the two waitresses whose only job appeared to be to take egg orders and clear tables.
There are two drinks machines in the breakfast room and ugly metal teapots and coffee pots. You must serve yourself for everything…. Including toasting your own bread. On our table were two small circles of butter and each was thin and the size of my thumb nail. The butter was sufficient for only one piece of toast, so you had to ask for lots more butter. I was advised by a neighbouring table that the plates in the hot self-service buffet area were very hot but the ones from the kitchen were not. I left my breakfast as did Martha and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I loathe self-service buffet breakfasts and barely put up with them in foreign resort hotels. The Grange hotel is not a travel lodge or a transport café, and it needs to step up on breakfast service. The holiday coach parties m
Hotel look good! Staff at bar miserable. Reception staff very good! Restaurant, lost in time, boring, no atmosphere, not enough table staff! For some reason we find a lot of hotels still cater for the elderly only! We could not wait to finish our meal and leave restaurant!
Good not great! Menus very boring!
Breakfast very nice there was plenty of choice the staff very good and friend!y Location good 5minutes to railway station and bus stop.
Found everything fine
Room was good but too hot so window stayed open
Breakfast was good but no fried eggs no cups and no one came to table for extra orders
We ate in the town so cannot rate the carriages restaurant but the menu looked nice will try it next time.
The spa facilities were too small
Fried eggs in the self serve breakfast bar
Maybe turn heating down a degree or two
Breakfast very good. Our room was v.comfortable and warm. Staff all very friendly and helpful especially Chloe who went above and beyond to find us some info we asked her. A star !!!
Friendly and helpful staff. Great food and presentation. Leisure facilities were small but very clean and well maintained. Superior room was exceptional, very comfy bed, newly decorated luxurious bathroom.
Beautiful decorated
The spa area needs a little attention
Room excellent. Spacious and comfortable. View could have been better but that is being picky. Breakfast very good also.
Parking, but again that is a small problem.
We booked single rooms but were upgraded to doubles. Room 102 was extremely spacious and very comfortable.
Maybe more fresh fruit to accompany the yogurt for those who don't go for cooked breakfast
The building and location ( also the improvement like the bedrooms are looking great and hopefully the spa area will follow suit). The staff, the food was excellent.
As I said the spa needs to be made more comfortable. But I can see there is a project for the future for this splendid Hotel.
The vibe of the hotel in general was very nice. The town is not very big and it sort of looks down on all of it. Also the room was very comfy and clean. The aesthetics within the room were also really nice.
The staff were not the most helpful. When I got there, an hour before check in (2pm) there was a person complaining to them about how much it cost vs what they got. After staying here I do kind of agree with this. The place was empty, it is definitely not high season, but I still had to wait until 3pm on the dot to check in, which is really odd. Also for the amount of money I paid my stay was just alright. Especially because they pushed an upgrade when checking in and I didn't want to say no/delay the check in process further. Also the layout of the bathroom was incredibly cramped and the floors had major dips and caused very loud creaking.
Location was good, hotel was clean and good facilities.
