This is a beautiful old hotel which has been well maintained and updated, except for the very tiny, antiquated elevator which barely holds 1 person with his/her luggage. The hotel is on the main street in Durango, so you can easily walk to many restaurants in the area. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, this hotel is right near the railroad tracks, so you will hear the early train whistles, which are quite loud. And, being on the main street, you are near several bars whose noisy patrons woke us up at 1 AM. Plus, the motor cycles they used were very loud.
Chose the General Palmer based on location. Glad we did. A great hotel with lots of charm. Very clean fantastic service. Typical cont breakfast. We loved everything about this place. And a 2 min walk to the train
The General Palmer Hotel is a beautiful historic hotel with a lot of character and charm. The location is excellent, right in the heart of downtown Durango on the main commercial street, within walking distance of restaurants, cafés, shops, and directly next to the train station. The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and professional, and the breakfast was excellent. Free parking was also a great advantage. Overall, everything was convenient and the experience was wonderful.
Nothing significant. Everything was excellent and met my expectations.
I loved how it felt like I was going back in time! Everything was cool to look at.
I liked everything! The elevator is an old style elevator, I enjoyed it, but I can see how it could be a negative for some people because it is tiny.
We really enjoyed our stay here during our instate road trip . The location is excellent except for the day train noise . But the train noise is honestly everywhere and it stops around 8:00 pm.
We stayed in the Presidential suite , which was a nice large room . The furniture and decor is definitely dated . But a lot of people like the old timey look - we are the odd ones . It is quite charming in its own way .
It was a super hot week -@94 degrees and the old AC worked like a charm to keep us cool - a huge plus .
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful . There are also coffee and water stations all throughout the hotel . The elevator is super small but a hoot. Be advised about the cute but small elevator. Overall a lovely stop on our journey.
Much better than I expected, more choices too. Served in a beautiful room.
Perfect location, very clean and comfortable room.
The elevator is quaint; but difficult to work with bags and won't hold more than two.
L emplacement et le charme de la bâtisse
Oozes old west charm.
The General Palmer had many positives:
- location was great for the train and EV charging
- ample parking easily accessed at no extra charge
- comfortable rooms with excellent AC
- quiet hotel away from the crowds.
- complimentary coffee, tea and bfast.
No complaints or issues.
Loved the atmosphere, location was terrific.
Nothing at this time.
Staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome
This is a nice hotel. Great rooms, Very good breakfast. This hotel is right by the steam train and right downtown. Walking distance to everywhere. My wife rated this as the best of our 2 week vacation in the Southwest. They do hit you for $15 for parking which I did not expect.
The hotel was beautiful, and it was a great location!
We loved everything!
Excellent location, especially for the train. The hotel was very cute with a downstairs reading room also. Breakfast was very good. The rooms were very quaint and comfortable
The room had a beautiful transom above the door that let in a good bit of light. If you notify the desk, they will cover it for you. The hot water on the 2nd floor did not work. They finally brought a carafe of hot water after I asked the second time.
