A friendly hotel
Pros:

We stayed in this hotel as part of a Newmarket tour. i thought the hotel was charming, the staff really friendly especially in the restaurant and bar area. Our room was spacious, clean and with a generous balcony. I dont recognise the other reviews about the food, there was plenty of choice and the dinners hot. The only disappointmnent for me was the lack of channels on the tv and lack of instructions in the room period.

Total lack of services
Pros:

28 degrees celcius in my room. I couldn't get the air con to turn on.
Rang reception for help and they informed me the turn off all aircons to the rooms during low season and if i didn't like it... to open a window.

Do yourselves a favour, and stay anywhere else!

Disappointing hotel
Pros:

This hotel is not a four star hotel . The food was really awful either inedible, lukewarm warm or both. The service in the restaurant varies between okay and poor. One night we waited 45 minutes for our 1st course only for the waiter to bring the 2nd course while we were still eating! Frederico is superb in the restaurant and tries to run the bar in the lounge at the same time hence we waited for a drink every night as he can’t split himself into two! The hotel is quite dated and in need of a refurb. On a positive it is very clean and in a good location. We loved the funicular up to Montecanti Alto. Stunning. Would we stay here again? Definitely not

Tour of Tuscany and Manzoni Hotel
Pros:

We have just returned from a Newmarket tour of Tuscany and stayed in the Manzoni Hotel in Montecatini. We have given it 2 stars mainly for food and lack helpfulness of staff. Only one of the Dining room waiters, Frederico, (also tended the bar) was exceptional and took notice of our complaints about the evening meal. Food was luke warm at best and often so well done that you couldn't eat it, especially the meat. A pork shank we had, for instance, was so hard I couldn't cut the meat of the bone. Mashed potatoes were sloppy and lumpy and the pasta courses were completely tasteless. In their defence, after complaining and leaving food, Frederico seemed to have stirred the chef into cooking better food, but that was the 4th day of 7!!! Breakfast was abysmal, the bacon and scrambled eggs were burnt every morning and you could eat the bacon or was so hard, eggs like rubber. Boiled eggs were OK but that was the hot choice. Bowls of yoghurt, toasting bread and jugs of milk were never replenished and on an early start day we had to go into the kitchen to get someone to get some. The waiters were grumpy and acted as if we were a bother to them!
We had a large room, extremely old fashioned but clean except being plagued by ants running over the drawers and up the hanging space by the window! We complained to the hotel and Newmarket rep and thought it was sorted but NO!! The shower was in a cubicle and the doors kept falling off the rails. The second time it happened, the young girl behind the desk actually said that she had been told to fix them and she didn't have a clue. One night we had a visitor in the shower, a Gecko, it was just enjoying the water as I showered and clung to the glass . That was quite endearing really. On early morning starts it was really dark in the reception area, no lights on and nobody behind the desk. On the plus side it had a nice pool which had a sliding cover and whirl pool which was nice on the one down day we had. Would we go back - No! I will also do a separate review of Newmarket Holidays as that is a different story!!!

Comfortable stay, good location but wouldn’t rush back. Needs modernising.
Pros:

Recently stayed at this hotel in September. When we arrived after a long day travelling to our rooms, the floor was dirty and full of dark black hairs throughout the room and into the bathroom. There was a dressing gown in the room that is supposed to be provided but was filthy and torn, it belonged in a bin.

When we explained to the staff that the floor was dirty they were quite rude and tried to make out it was caused by wool. Once we shown them the pictures they said they would get a cleaner to our rooms which they did after nearly an hour of waiting.

Throughout the rest of the stay I’ll admit the rooms were cleaned every day and very comfy beds. Reasonably quiet and comfy sleep.

Overall throughout the hotel it needs a lot of modernisation, which is a common theme. The pictures of this hotel online does not match what you get, photos online definitely cat fish this hotel.

Reception staff were friendly, but one in particular was quite rude. The reception staff could also do with dressing in smarter uniform.

Not too sure how this hotel manages to get a 4 star.

Other than that, the hotel is in a good location from the centre. It’s about a 10-15 min walk from montecatini Centro and a 20-25 min walk to the funicular to go up to montecatini alto.

I personally wouldn’t stay here again, but it was mostly an enjoyable stay.

Disrespectful and irresponsible
Pros:

Left my car in hotel's garage, and my car keys at the receptionas as that was 'mandatory'.
A week later found my car in a parking lot. Reception did not have my keys; keys were in the car!!! They took my car out of the garage and left it in a parking lot WITH CAR KEYES ON A DRIVER'S SEAT!!! That's the ultimate disrespect and irresponsibility towards the guests and their belongings.

Fine base for the tour.
Pros:

We booked this hotel as part of a Newmarket tour.
The hotel is centrally positioned in Montecatini Terme. It is very close to the lovely park. A walk through the park takes you to the funicular railway station from where you can ride to Alto Montecatini. This is a very attractive old town with shops, restaurants and great views.
The hotel is well placed for ATMs, restaurants and some impressive old buildings and concert halls.
There are a few derelict buildings around the park.
The hotel itself is fine for a week stay.
There is plenty of room around the pool.
Our room had a very large and well equipped bathroom. The bedroom was quirky but housekeeping was good.
There was no kettle and no English language channels on the tv.
Breakfast was basic as is usual in city centre Italian hotels of this class. The two early morning breakfasts were however inadequate.
The evening meals were a choice between three starters and main courses for Newmarket guests. We did eat out on a couple of occasions.

I wouldn’t stay here again
Pros:

The pillows were so flat I had to grab all of the extras out of the closet. The bathroom towels weren’t replenished and a roach was found in my room on the last day. Was very underwhelmed. Not sure how this place has a 4 star rating.

Charming Hotel in Montecatini Terme
Pros:

Travelling with Newmarket Holidays, booked this Hotel, absolutely delighted. The hotel was charming, staff friendly and attentive- nearly all fluent in English to offset my poor Italian! We were on a half board package; breakfast was a generous buffet with everything you could need, from cereal and fruit to ham, local cheeses and a wonderful assortment of rolls, bread and cake! They also offered us Eggs and bacon.
The three course dinner was superb, including local specialities, classic dishes and we were spoiled for choice at every sitting.
Our room was clean, tidy and well serviced ( bed linen was changed completely half way through the week) and the balcony overlooked the pool and entrance area.
All of the main areas were beautifully decorated and comfortable.
Highly recommended.

A disappointing experience
Pros:

The room was comfortable if a little tired. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good to begin with but when the restaurant became very busy (serving 150 covers) it was like being in a school canteen so it was very noisy and often the food was only luke warm. The breakfasts were adequate but the hot option was often cold!

A Trip we wanted to go on to visit all places we had never been to,Florence,Siena,Portofino,Pisa, and more.

Not as bad as you think
Pros:

After reading all the reviews on here I was worried about going to this hotel! Although many of the things said are true it is not that bad. I would not say it was a 4 * hotel more of a 3*. The bedrooms looked a bit tired and could do with a refurbishment, the air com worked well but the room was quite dark and small. I did wonder about the bedspread as I am sure they are not washed after every guest. I had to change room as the first room I had I was awake all night as all I could hear was water being flushed somewhere. The next room was quiet. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I was happy with the food and could always find something on the menu I liked, the desserts were very nice. It was a bit disappointing that the TV in the bar area only appeared when Italy played and not when England did. The coach could not drive up the road so you have to walk down the road for the trips and on arriving and leaving the hotel so perhaps not so good for someone with mobility problems.

Awful/Definitely not 4*
Pros:

This is definitely not a 4* hotel , the rooms are diabolical, small, dark , dingy ,smelly and the shutters need sanding down and painting , I felt instantly depressed , The pillows were rock hard and should of been replaced years ago , the 1970 style bedspread had a huge yellow stain and ink stain , certainly not washing these each time the towels smelt strange , the food was over salted, Receptionists were miserable , ants crawling outside, ashtrays full of cigarettes , no one sweeping or maintaining , ridiculous ornaments including a bunch of plastic grapes in the reception area , slamming doors throughout the night , you’ll need more than a massage staying here , it needs fumigating , I even spotted a washing machine in use in a cupboard !! I didn’t choose this hotel it was included in a tour , it ruined my whole holiday , it really is that bad , not sure if they have environmental health in Italy , they’d have a field day ! Forget using your European plug too , they don’t work…AVOID

Great restaurant staff ,read on regarding the hotel as its not the greatest!
Pros:

The hotel is dated .The net curtains around the hotel are stained and old.The furnishings are old the whole place needs an overhaul to bring it up to a decent standard. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive, especially Simone! The reception staff are not people friendly .They don't greet you with a smile ,they can hardly lift their eyes form their work to hand you your keys each day and their daily interaction is non existent.
We went with Newmarket Holidays .The two reps Danielle and Elizabeth are excellent staff who seem to be constantly at hand to help.Elizabeth even had a close family bereavement and was back to work after to one day to help Danielle.
The hotel food was average .Great fish meals ,some great beef dishes and nice pasta. It was all quite salty ,so be aware. There is an area of some vegetables and salad to add to your meal each night .The bottles of wine addd up to your bill-for example red Syrah per bottle =24 euros and white Vermentino per bottle =9 Euros, a bottle of water = 3 Euros and 1 Coca Cola =6 Euros ,1 Tanqueray gin and tonic= 12 Euros. The location of the hotel is good with easy access to the lovely park and local bars and restaurants. The local tourist information centre is 50 metres away at the end of the Roda. The swimming pool was covered as it was not great weather's we did n't use it.Others did .It is mandatory to wear a purchased swimming hat and bath robes. It id not look as nice as the hotel pictures. We had a room with a balcony and the view is just of the front of the hotel ,so no great views. The last night we were there we found a cockroach in our room .We did not notify staff as there was another cockroach sighting in the dining room the following morning when we left and guests notified staff of this.I would not want to stay again due to this issue.Well done to. the restaurant staff ,we hope you have a good season!!
