This hotel is good value for money and in a great location, very close to Russell Square tube and only a 10 minute walk from Kings Cross station.
It's renovations are not far off completed now and it's a big improvement. We stayed here last February and the difference in a year is really good. The rooms are so much more modern - I love that the shower now has a button at the end that you get into it so that you don't have to turn it on and instantly get out of the way until the water warms up! Although the standard room sizes do seem to have been reduced and did feel slightly too small.
Breakfast was really nice and fresh and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. It's also a pretty quiet hotel both inside and out.
Room for 4 in Central London will usually set you back a pretty penny, but this one is quite good value. We had a large room with a queens sized bed and a large fold out sofa-bed in an adjoining space (not quite a suite but close.)
The room was clean and tidy with modern touches such as a lovely bathroom, TV that you could cast to from a phone and multiple USB-A & C charging sockets.
There was exterior renovations happening but we heard nothing.
The hotel is a short walk from Euston Station and right next to Russell Square tube station and comfortable walk to covent garden area.
Reception staff were great and resolved every query quickly and to our satisfaction. The bar area was great for a night cap and the buffet breakfast was just the ticket.
Slight warning to travellers even though you give ages of the children at booking they still expect to charge locally extra for the Children over 12 to have breakfast.
It was a slightly incompetent checking-in experience, which took far too long. Apart from that, the room was clean and comfortable. Decent blackout curtains. Shower wasn’t as powerful as I’d like.
The buffet breakfast was decent. Nice touch with the water bottle filling station.
The location is perfect for central London.
My wife and I spent 6 nights here in late January. The room was comfortable – although a little small for two people. The hotel was also undergoing some refurbishment, but this didn’t cause us any bother. The real stars are the staff. My wife and I were both unwell on arrival (with a bug we had picked up elsewhere) and she had a nasty fall during our stay (out on the street – nothing to do with the hotel). All the staff were kind and tried to help with our ailments. The concierge kept some of my wife’s medication in their refrigerator – kindly letting us recover it for ten minutes when each dose was due and then taking it back from us. I don’t recall the names of most of the people who helped us, but do want to mention Horacia – the kind reception clerk who checked us in and out and was so friendly and attentive to our needs. I must also mention Aleena, a waitress in the hotel restaurant (‘The Artful Critic’). She saw that we were both under-the-weather and – without prompting from us – prepared a soothing hot drink (of her own recipe) with honey and lemon for us on multiple occasions!
Ahhh….where to start…..
The Holiday Inn Bloomsbury is fabulous plus!! Management has put a great deal of effort into quite impressive renovations. Oh, yes, the noise can be a nuisance during the day, but the renovations are quite stellar and there is no way to get them magically. So often people complain about hotels and say that upgrades are needed. Everything is being done to turn this hotel into an impressively A+++++ hotel.
In addition to the renovations, the staff is also super stellar….from the front desk staff of Lubna, Zalika, Horacia, Shivam, Ishan, and the others. Lopez and Yacoub are wonderful greeters. The breakfast room is filled with wonderful staff, beginning with Meet, Abir, Alvaro, and Seraade at the entry, fabulous Nejla, the breakfast room honchette, Tesha, Sarah, Rukhaiya, Kazi, and Hilda working the room and Eddy and Mohamed in the kitchen. Wonderful ambiance and wonderful offerings at breakfast. Additionally, Ollie at the Starbucks bar is personable and ever helpful. Anu also does a great job. Finally, I must mention the very kind and very fabulous management head, Warryn, who is beyond wonderful and helpful.
I have stayed at this hotel many times and I cannot wait to get back.
It is my favorite hotel…..🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Excellent.
Lovely staff on reception. Very helpful
Nice room,
Very comfortable
Highly recommended
Yes, without doubt we'll be returning
I’ve not stayed at many Holiday Inns before because people seem a bit sniffy about them, but based on this experience I need to think differently
The hotel was undergoing a major renovation but despite that, it was clean and had a good vibe. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and worthy of a grander hotel.
The room was comfortable. Breakfast was not bad, far better than some chain hotel offerings.
Stayed on previous occasions and was ok. The refurb has certainly improved the experience, good service from all the staff too.
Hotel is quite nice and the restaurant food was very good! The service was a bit strange, I couldn’t make out if the waitress perhaps worked in another job and stepped in as she just put the food in front of me, never said a word each time she came to the table, which was twice, it was all very odd! The male waiter was lovely and asked me what I’d thought of the jerk chicken as he’d had a say in it, it was delicious and he was lovely!
My room was a premier corner room, spacious and comfortable. But the building noise was horrendous from early morning, there is no way you couldn’t hear it which spoilt the early morning, I tried so watch TV even with the sound up but I couldn’t hear it! Only for this my stay would have been good.
I was a bit unsure what to expect booking this hotel to be really honest but I needn’t have been - it was great. The room was recently refurbished and a great size, clean and all the amenities we needed. My teenage daughter had the sofa bed which can sometimes be a bit rubbish but this was a fantastic size and comfy. The staff were really lovely too and the location was perfect for easily getting to and from Euston, Covent Garden etc. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and I think I’m fussy.
We had a pleasant stay. It was a bit noisy due to the construction in the hotel and we found the mattresses to be rather firm. For one night it did what it needed to do. The Breakfast was lovely and the staff were helpful.
Stayed in one of the newer rooms and was very pleased with the comfort and updated feel. Everything you need for a great stay. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, and the Atrium/Artful Critic bar made for a nice spot to relax in the evenings. Location is a big plus too, just a short walk from Euston Station, which made getting around very convenient. Overall, a solid and enjoyable stay.
It had been a few weeks since we had been here, but we always have a King Corner Premium Room, which costs a bit more than the regular rooms, but it fits the wheelchair in nicely.
We arrived a few minutes earlier than the 3.00pm Check-in and we were allocated our room. My husband thought that it was the wrong room, but I couldn't remember the room number we normally have. We went up to a lovely refurbished room, but the wheelchair didn't fit it in and we had booked and paid for the corner room, which has a lot more space.
I went down to Reception and advised we had booked a corner room and this wasn't a corner room. The Receptionist looked bewildered. I explained to her the room we always had, giving the room number and she just stared at me. I then showed her the email confirmation - thankfully I had it on my phone. I was told to take a seat, I said I didn't want to sit as I had left my husband on the 6th floor. Eventually I had to sit, I am disabled and was in pain from waiting. Meanwhile my husband came down and asked what was going on. Another member of staff said they had a room they thought would be suitable but it needed to be cleaned. I asked if I could look at it as if it wasn't suitable there was no point in us waiting for it. I was told it would be 30 minutes.
I was allowed to go with a member of staff to look at it. It looked just like the room on the 6th floor, so it was fine. We did enquire what had happened to our booked room and we were just told it had been given to someone else, with a shrug of the shoulders.
We then sat in the Reception area, waiting and waited, when Ahmed, the Concierge, saw us and asked if we had not been given a drink voucher. We hadn't but he soon got one for us. While we sat and waited another member of staff saw us, we had dealt with her before, when the same thing happened. She soon returned to us and apologised and said it shouldn't be happening to us. She advised she was Marcia and she gave us her details and arranged for us to have a food voucher also.
It was 4:15pm before the room was ready, we knew we had to eat at 4:30pm in order to get out on time.
Once in the room the room was freezing and we had to report that and a portable heater was delivered.
This was a disappointing start to a two night stay, fortunately the rest of the stay went OK but this shouldn't be happening. You should not be downgraded from the room you have booked, without even a mention of it or a reduction in price.
I would love to give this hotel 5 stars but I am afraid it let itself down on a major area!
Firstly the good points:
Friendly staff
Excellent location
Food and service in restaurant good but pricey
Rooms clean and large
Beds and pillows very good
As I said I would have given it a 5 star but for the following. On our first night we arrived back fairly late and the room was freezing! I tried to alter thermostat but no joy so we thought ok get to bed and report it in the morning. Spent a cold night and cold morning when we woke but got a steaming hot bath and out early. Reported it to reception around 0730 and expected it to be working or alternatives to be provided on our return at around 13.30. Went to room, freezing cold and no alternatives! Back to reception and asked again. A very friendly maintenance man arrived and told us that the renovations on the above floor had required the heating panel that affected our room to be switched off and he arranged for a couple of oil heaters to be provided. They came and a couple of hours later with another steaming hot bath it was toasty! I can understand the first night these things happen but really they should have attended to the issue without a second visit.
I would say that this hotel is good value. Its near euston, near loads of shops and restaurants in an arcade a stones throw away. My room was small ish but clean and cosy. Bed slightly hard but pillows and duvet decent quality. Bathroom, again small but perfectly functional. For the price I thought it was a bargain.
Now the downside. The cacophony of noise that started at about 8 30am. Loud drilling, banging and walls vibrating. Felt like I was in the middle of a construction site, which actually, I literally was.
When i mentioned it on checkout, their response was 'well we did tell you this when you checked in' like that's any good to me when I have no choice.
Poor of them to continue selling rooms, but....money, I guess.
I would come again, but I'd wait until the construction was finished first.
Great Hotel but made special with the great customer service and return as a regular Guest.
In particular would like to recognise Marcia on the front desk for her exceptional customer focus. Going out of her way to be helpful.
Keep up the great work!
The hotel is centrally located by Russell Square train station and within Bloomsbury great area.
Itl is being nicely refurbished and looks modern and cosy.
The Reception team and specially Horacia was helpfull and friendly.
The F&B team is fantastic and profesional like Lita at breakfast time, always nice and smiling.
Perfect hotel, great location and fantastic team.
Very rude staff- Jason the night manager particularly
Unhelpful and denied that he could hear any noise outside, refused to move me
The location, atmosphere, our room, housekeeping and breakfast is excellent. We are enjoying our stay here and hope to come again
The Holiday Inn Bloomsbury is fabulous!
Although there is still a bit of renovation left, it more than impressive that they are renovating as they are. All of the renovated areas are beautifully tended.
On the sixth floor, very attractive and interesting artwork is on the walls throughout.
The hotel structure is indeed impressive, but the strength of this hotel lies with the quite spectacular staff. The front desk staff could not be more personable and helpful….Zalika, Lubna, Horacia, and Shivam and the others, including Wayne, the front desk manager. Lopes, with the fabulous smile, is usually near the front door greeting guests. The breakfast room staff work extremely hard and are always very helpful…Abir, Eddy, Martina, Anil, Anu, Meet, Sarah, and Raquel, who oversees the breakfast room.
My experiences at the Holiday Inn are always beyond pleasant. I cannot wait until my next opportunity to return to this hotel.
