The cooked breakfast that is an extra £12.50 was awful, the egg had been cooked for so long it was hardly recognisable as an egg. The sausage looked like it had been boiled, the bake beans seemed to be a spot the bean competition, staff said I don’t blame you when I cancelled our following mornings cooked breakfast and seemed embarrassed. So staff great but horrendous owner
Location was very short distance to the sea with a great view from the front of the hotel
The rooms are at the back with no view. Corridors are worn and dirty. Room smelled mouldy and parts of the shower was.
Bed was just hard springs.. Chef did not turn up for breakfast next morning, no receptionist either just a worried young female waiter not knowing what to do. I booked elsewhere the next two nights despite this being non refundable.
Our room was lovely and the position could not have been better. We loved it's old fashioned charm and would have liked to have spent more time relaxing on the terrace, enjoying the view, but as mentioned there was only hard picnic furniture. We would have spent more money in the hotel if they served coffee/tea throughout the day and possibly light lunches.
The buffet breakfast was poor, especially the coffee, also when I asked for coffee after dinner it was a big deal to turn the machine on and it took at least 30 minutes to heat up!
The gardens and terrace were beautiful but there was no comfortable seating.
Läget och utsikten!
Nedgånget hotell, endast varmvatten i duschen. Vi sa till men inget hände. Dålig frukost. Sorgligt eftersom det ser fint ut på bilderna och i beskrivningen. Vi frågade efter fläktar eftersom det var värmebölja men fick ingen. Vi visste att det inte fanns AC.
The bedroom was clean and bed comfy
Wallpaper peeling, chip board covering damp patches, never seen a continental breakfast with no pastries or fresh fruit (just tinned peaches) and two halves of toast is extreme rationing. Bar ran out of cider, bar tender could have been from faulty towers… extremely rude nothing to laugh about here
Great views, great location, good parking.
No towel in bathroom.
Location was fantastic, Staff and Owner very helpful.
Excellent location for the South West Coast Path and wonderful view across the bay. Lovely soft towels and large room.
Breakfast was mediocre and the cooked breakfast particularly poor - couldn't cook eggs properly and burnt the toast. The general staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but it was very unprofessional of the manager/owner to have an argument with a guest in front of other residents.
Lovely receptionist who deserves more.
Good evening meals.
We were checking in with the receptionist, who was very professional and had booked us in for evening meals when someone (who could have been the handyman) was muttering " no takeaways in the bedrooms". It turns out he was the owner.
We had asked for storage for road bikes when booking but were offered a railing fence to padlock bikes to outside. When asking the owner for storage somewhere inside he said "we're not the Marriott you know"
Nice drink and food all served by the owner in a tribute to the style of Basil Fawlty.
Breakfast was the worst of a 14 day trip through the country. Could have passed as a pre school breakfast from the 70s but not acceptable now.
Cleanliness level is low. Dirt, food and mess on the base of every table in breakfast room despite not having been used. Cleaning is not a priority it seems like a cursory vacuum is about all the hotel gets.
Hotel was probably last decorated and upgraded about 30 years ago.
Visit for entertainment purposes to see how hotels were run back in the day.
Stunning views of the bay, easy access to Charlestown and other places of interest. Plenty of parking on site. Clean if a little tired room
Continental breakfast very basic and cooked breakfast not good value for money. Very low pressure shower
The staff were really friendly, check in was a breeze, great free parking, good location (easily accessible). I hadn't realised a basic breakfast was included, which was a nice bonus! Good value for money. When I stayed, St Austell was in a fog cloud, but the views over the bay would be STUNNING on a clear day. I got back fairly late and the property was still easy to access via a different entrance. I'd definitely stay again for a night!
Attention to detailed cleaning is required. There was a lot of dust and cobwebs in the room. The room would have benefitted from blackout blinds/curtains, as a lot of light came in at sunrise. I was woken up by a bin lorry at 0500 🙈 There was no hot water during my stay, but I was told about this at check in. Not a huge deal as I'd showered before I checked in, but would've been nice to have a warm shower after being at a gig the night before.
Everything
Breakfast could have been better
Marvellous outlook and location
Pleasant ambience and staff
Some maintenace required eg wall damp rouhhly painted over and window unclosable.
Friendly and helpful staff on front desk
Room clean with nice sheets
Radiators not well regulated. Room cold o n arrival. Radiators only turned on for short period and then boiling hot.
Restaurant food not good.Expensive for what it was.
Limited selection of wine and expensive
Staff very pleasant.
Great views overlooking the sea
The hotel is in a prime position, clean and comfortable, breakfast was good, cant comment about the evening meal.
Hotel has a bar.
The only thing I would say it could do with a make over, my room had seaview, and all the facilities it could benefit from decorating.
Friendly staff. Clean.
Food a bit average.
George and his team were very friendly and professional at all times, nice relaxing break even if the weather wasn't ideal.
