This hotel has an excellent location. That is all the good I can say about it. We are not super picky travelers. All we need is clean and comfortable. This hotel is not. The room was very dated and not clean. Mold in the shower, plaster peeling off the ceiling and falling all over the floor, filthy walls, curtains broken could not even properly open/close them. The room (and whole hotel stink of mold covered up by deodorant. The worst part was the air conditioner. We left in on to cool the room while we went out to pick up supplies. When we got back the stink from the ac was soo bad of rot/mold I thought it was dangerous to our health. I went to the desk to get a new room or the problem fixed. No other rooms avail. And even though they promised, no one ever came to clean/repair the ac. Out of concern for our health we never turned the ac on again for the entire stay so the sleeps were very hot and very poor.
I would not stay here ever again.

The room was clean but very basic and run down. The breakfast was limited.
I am giving the 4 * based on location near the train & water front. Many shops and restaurant close by as well as the ferry to visit other areas

We first visited this hotel in 2022 and generally enjoyed our stay. We decided, therefore, to return in August 2024.

Unfortunately the hotel seems to have suffered some neglect during that time both in terms of management and physically appearance.

Upon check-in we were, greeted, if you could call it that, by a cantankerous staff member behind the counter. It was no better on check out, we tried to get out at 7.30 am to catch a train but there was no-one who could help us and we still needed to pay the city tax. We decided to just leave lest we miss our train to Rome.

Apart from this the hotel was just dirty and potentially hazardous to health. Black mould in our bathroom (pictures included), the front steps, alfresco area was used for smoking, one day I witnessed cigarette ash scattered over a coffee table next to some dirty outdoor chairs. When I returned from the days activities the same cigarettes in the ash tray were still there (I remembered how they were placed). The door matt to the building was covered in dust and grime, there was some kind of leak as well from the front of the building - generally adding to the run-down ambience.

The breakfast service had also gone down-hill - no more cut fruit, stale pastries and staff who generally look like they don’t know where they are. All of the curtains in the breakfast room were drawn, despite it being a beautiful day. I opened the curtain next to our table and was greeted by a broken/cracked glass pane.

I know that it is a difficult business climate, but it only takes a little bit of initiative to fix many of the issues I have detailed. Unfortunately this hotel does not have any.

Despite the good location I would not recommend staying here for the cost, and I probably wouldn’t book again.

absolute dump, I have had the misfortune of staying here The filthy room, the moldy walls- dirt and dust encrusted furniture, dirty curtains broken lights, broken phone, no alarm clock a fridge that couldn’t even keep water cold, the stairwells that smelt of urine. The bathroom was disgusting mould encrusted shower,dirt covered window sill. Rude night manager Pablo or Parlo was his name he called me a rude name for asking him to replace the broken Lights. The breakfast was a joke.. a few pieces of ham and salami and a some bread. Staff had to be constantly asked to restock the breakfast. In fact the staff had to harassed into doing anything in this hotel. After I complained about my room they said it’s was Sunday so no fix and no cleaner. After the cleaner came through all they did was make the bed. Don’t bother asking for the manager he is never there.. and everyone else says they are just the “receptionist”.

The hotel is in a good place and the staff were v helpful. The only downside was the low standard breakfast. No decent fruit or fresh juice (although there were oranges rowing on the tree outside). Better to go to a cafe and have coffee and croissant outside.

It was clean, location great, however, it is very very tired. Inadequate bedding, broken drapes, no tea/coffee facilities in room. Had to ask heating to be turned on & last day no hot water to room !
Staff knew and didn’t advise.
Staff were disappointing, could have been much more professional and hospitable

Hotel Riviera is a great base to explore Liguria. We are just back from a 5 night stay and it was the perfect base to explore Portofino, Santa Marguarita, Levanto and the Cinque Terre from. We had a good size room for a family of 3 with air conditioning, which was such a relief given the very hot weather. Beds were comfortable, good mini bar to keep our water chilled and modern bathroom. Breakfast was amazing with lots of fresh fruit, foccacia bread, Italian cakes, cheese, yogurts ,cereal etc. And of course delicious coffee. Hotel is ideally located opposite a public beach (free) and lido (paid). Lovely walking path along the beach with buskers and artists in the evening. Near the port and tourist boat service. Plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby all as good as each other. 5 minutes walk from the train station which we used many times to explore the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good lift. The hotel was exactly what we wanted and delighted we got in at such late notice. Thanks Hotel Riviera for making our holiday so enjoyable 😎

We stayed for a few nights and got back more tired than we were before check-in. We had a very small and basic room, which is not even featured on any official website pictures. No bed lamps. There was a very weird smell coming from the pipes. Windows weren't soundproof, and we didn't have a single night of good rest (there is a very busy roundabout right before the hotel). The shower knob was broken and we could not change the temperature of the water. After giving feedback to the reception, we were informed it'll be taken care of and left the key to the room at the reception. When we came back a few hours later, the receptionist said she doesn't know where our key is and if we've taken it with us... Well, turned out the hotel had simply handed the key to the handyman and the handyman left the key hanging outside the lock of our door after he was finished. EVERYBODY COULD HAVE EASILY ENTERED THE ROOM. For hours, the key was accessible to everybody. Under no circumstances is this acceptable in a hotel. There was no apology, they simply didn't seem to care about us as hotel guests. There is also no iron facility on the hotel ground (apparently for safety reasons, but why are other hotels across the world able to handle "safety" when dealing with irons?). Also, the hotel doesn't provide beach towels. We didn't try the breakfast and preferred to have breakfast outside. Generally, we didn't feel very welcome and not taken care of, as you can expect from a hotel. I'd rather rate it as a hostel, not a hotel with 3 stars.

Location was excellent, not too far to walk from the train station, and central to lots of good restaurants. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Would highly recommend this small hotel. It’s in a great location, a 5 minute walk to the railway station, looking out over the harbour and with a lido across the road. Bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. Reception staff were so very helpful and friendly , rooms are modern and very clean and breakfast choices good.

The location of the hotel is excellent, on the front overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Central Rapallo isn’t large; restaurants, bars etc are all within easy walking distance. The train station is less than 10 minutes on foot. The main road along the sea front in Rapallo runs to the side of the hotel and although usually busy, the noise of the traffic is not intrusive. The staff at The Riviera are very friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was simple but adequate. The bedroom my wife and I had booked was comfortable but not plush; it didn’t encourage us to linger although it was ok for somewhere to put our heads down for the night. Whilst not the height of luxury, for the price The Riviera Hotel isn’t a bad place from which to explore the Ligurian Riviera.

Not far from the railway station. Very good location. Very good staff at the front desk. Very good breakfast and the gentleman who who looks after is very good man and
very helpful specially for the vegetarian people.
