Relaxed and comfortable stay
Pros:

After staying in a very disappointing 5-star hotel in Malta, I found this hotel to be so much better. I felt relaxed at all times and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was big enough to have lots of facilities but not too big.

Our room had a great view over Funchal and a nice wee, private balcony to sit in.
Eating breakfast outside every morning was lovely.

Many people say it is too far from the main town but we walked up and down every day. Yes, it is up hill on the way home but if you are fairly fit, it is not a long walk.

Hygiene katastrophal, Aussicht gut, Preis-Leistungsverhältnis hat überhaupt nicht gestimmt für ein 4* Hotel!!!

Die Lage war sehr gut, ruhig, schöne Aussicht auf den Atlantik.

Cons:

In der Duschkabine waren die Plattenfugen verschimmelt. Die Zierkissen auf dem Bett hatten alte Flecken. Absolut katastrophal war die fehlende Hygiene auf den Frühstückstischen auf der Terrasse - die Tische waren mit Taubenkot verschmutzt, das Personal schien kein Hygienebewusstsein zu haben und nach der Bitte für eine Reinigung wurde der Kot mit einem feuchten Lappen abgewischt und anschliessen mit dem gleichen Lappen auf dem Tisch verteilt. Es gab viele Tauben, die sich aggressiv Nahrung von den Tellern der Gäste verschafften. Das Servicepersonal kümmerte sich nicht. An einem Morgen hatten wir Tischsets, auf dem Taubenkot verrieben war. Hygienisch untragbar!!! Das Frühstücksbuffet war reichhaltig, die Qualität der Angebote war jedoch mangelhaft. Der Swimmingpool wurde seit langem nicht mehr gereinigt und saniert; dort zeigten sich Defekte auf dem Boden und es hatten sich in den Plattenfugen pelzige Algenbeläge gebildet. Absolut unhygienisch und dadurch nicht benutzbar. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis hat in keiner Weise gestimmt. Wir würden das Hotel nicht mehr wählen und können es nicht weiterempfehlen.

Eher unpersönliches Wellness Hotel
Pros:

Schöner Ausblick über Funchal und das Meer; angenehmer, eher kleiner Pool

Cons:

Obwohl die Website verspricht, dass alle Zimmer über einen Balkon verfügen, hatte unser Zimmer keinen! Das Hotel scheint sich vor allem an ältere Gäste (Grossbritanien, Deutschland, Holland) zu richten, relativ wenig Atmosphäre.
