Character Hotel
Pros:

Great character building and grounds
Good breakfast
Good parking

Cons:

Booked a superior room but it was very small.
Onsuite bathroom seemed to inserted in an already small bedroom.
Our friends booked same type of room direct with hotel and had a much larger room with a proper separate bathroom.and large bedroom.
We questioned this with reception and they assured us our room was classed as superior and we could move if required but we had already unpacked so thank them but kept the room. Just wondered if booking via booking.com made a difference in room allocation ?.

Pros:

Excellent stay food was lovely, staff were excellent room a bit dated but to me that just adds to the caricature of the hotel A1 experience..

Cons:

The only thing i didn't like was the entrance off the main road to the hotel, it's on a blind crest and a slight bend, but that's all...

The Hotel is in need of some significant investment as it is such a shame as it is in such a beautiful setting and such
Pros:

The location of the hotel is excellent as you can just cross over the road and you’re on the prom and can walk directly and safely in inter Grange. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with the Woodland walk and the gardens that you can sit in.

Cons:

The rooms were tired. We were there during the extreme hot weather and there was no fan in the room, there were no glasses and no bottles of water. The shampoo and the hand wash bottles were half full and not been refilled. We found a dress in the wardrobe upon arrival which suggested that the room had not been deep cleaned. The fan in the bathroom was not working and there was mould around the bath and around the bath panel that had been eroded.
The service room which was next to our room was a disgrace as there were bare floor panels which were not clean and therefore how can the rest of the Hotel kept clean.
There was a shortage of staff in the breakfast room so the staff were very friendly and very helpful, but there were just not enough to deal with the numbers in the Hotel so they were rushed off their feet.
I was disappointed as I had booked a superior room and would’ve therefore expected a view of the bay instead of being put on the front of the hotel overlooking the car park.

Relaxing stay with great food.
Pros:

Excellent food, restaurant staff very friendly. Comfortable bed, clean large room. A socket by the bed which is important for us . Lovely footpaths through the grounds. A lovely 'feel' to the hotel.

Cons:

Some parking spaces a bit tight but that's being picky! It's a lovely hotel.

Disappointing
Pros:

staff were well drilled and competent and coped well under pressure in the bar and at breakfast .

Cons:

We were greeted by the receptionist who was concerned that we might wish to change our allocated room due to a wasps nest in the vicinity.Additionally we were granted breakfast which apparently was not includede in the original rate. We chose to change and were given a room with sea view & balcony - this was a concrete slab with railings which I had to duck through a low window to access. The paint was flaking off the woodwork and it wasn't what I might call well maintained. The bathroom was dirty in places and the bath panel showed water damage as it was made of soft wood/laminate. We didn't complain at the time as we'd had a long day and couldn't face the hassle. the breakfast in the morning was adequate at best and lacked imagination, flair and quality. our good friends in 'Silverdale' were unable to open their window as it was stuck fast so there was no ventilation on a hot night. The whole building was tired and had seen better days, being in need of major investment. 50 years ago the hotel was a vibrant well maintained establishment but is now a shadow of it;s former glory. A price of £450 for the 2 rooms is in my opinion grossly overpriced . Our previous night at the wonderful Wentbridge house hotel in S Yorkshire couldn't have been more different where you can certainly appreciate what you are paying for. Our rooms were exceptionally well appointed at Wentbridge and cost some £50 less than at the Cumbria Grand. WE feel that you are taking advantage of your location on the edge of the lake district to extract premium prices from unwitting customers, though doubtless coach tours are being offered preferential terms for volume of guests. I will not be recommending Cumbria Grand to anyone I know.

Convenient location trading off heritage, but tatty and needs to undergo significant refurbishment.
Pros:

Beautiful building in a fantastic location

Cons:

Rooms were in a poor state of decorative repair and trading off the location. It needs a lot of investment as seen much better days, which are sadly a long time ago now.
