The location and great breakfast
Room was quite small and no mini fridge.
Great location, with views over the bay. Bedroom was clean and tidy, bed was excellent
Food was exceptional- as were the staff. Room clean and comfortable. Slept really well
Lots of stairs (well there would be in an old building). Car parking was a worry
The view from our room was the best feature of our stay, but we had paid extra for this privilege. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was exceptional quality for the price. The views over the harbour are also beautiful from the restaurant and lounge area.
The hotel is old and full of character, which is a USP, but the decoration in our bedroom was tired and outdated. One feature wall had new wallpaper and the headboard seemed like a recent addition, but the furniture was old MDF which looked cheap and faded and for a hotel of this stature not acceptable. The worse thing of all was the blind on the beautiful sash window facing the road. It warranted a bespoke roman blind, but instead was adorned with the cheapest blue, flimsy roller blind which must have been purchased from Asda which also let all the light into the room. Such an appalling choice again for a hotel of this stature.
We were also underwhelmed by the staff. Most were pleasant, but none seemed to really enjoy their jobs or want to make our stay special. The breakfast staff were particularly lacking. One male member of staff was chewing gum, one female member was very grumpy. When placing my friend's breakfast plate on the table, one of the hash browns slid off the plate onto the table and her only reaction was 'Oh'. She didn't offer to replace it or even apologise. It was a mistake and we didn't want her to feel bad, so we didn't say anything. We also heard staff moaning about the customers to each other in ear shot, which is very unprofessional. At the end of the day, it comes down to staff training. I do believe the customers experience would benefit greatly from staff behaviour being uplifted to a much higher level.
The breakfast is also underwhelming. I had paid for our stay to include breakfast. What this includes is standard filter coffee, tea or herbal tea, juice, toast, a choice of fruit or granola or cereal or croissant and one meal from the hot menu. Anything else occurs an additional charge, even hot chocolate, which is ironic as there are sachets on the tray in the bedroom.
The location is stunning. You should absolutely book a sea view room , as it is breathtakingly beautiful and unique. You get transported back in time to earlier days, as if you’re watching a Hercule Poirot mystery. Parking is available and much appreciated
We got a room with an exceptional view on the 3ed floor room 303. However , just as soon as we began to thank our good luck, we noticed a persistent grease smell. Turns out the exhaust fan for the kitchen is right below our window. The reception staff was a little embarrassed, but we did hear a voice from the office in the back “the fan stops at half nine” (which we interpreted as “be on your way you difficult guest” as we didn’t even get the courtesy of a face meeting with the manager. So indeed, the exhaust fan stopped at 930 pm, and we enjoyed our night. But in the morning it was fried eggs time. Lucky for us the weather did not call for opening the windows, it would have been unbearable. I guess we’re the only room in the hotel that has this problem, so whatever you do, ask specifically not to be booked in room 303!
Beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, gorgeous views of the estuary, excellent food in the restaurant and bar. Convenient position to visit Falmouth town
Nothing
Loved the decor, size of the room and bathroom, and the view was great too.
Acces to the hotel was a bit difficult and parking was a challenge.
we love the location , the quaint building, the staff. We have been staying there for over ten years several times a year and it never disappoints. We love room 223!
Too many steps up and down- difficult as we get older. But that’s all!!!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The view from our room over the estuary was spectacular, food and service was good.
Initial impression of the building was not great but once inside it was fine. With it being an old building the corridors were very narrow.
The room was very well appointed with a comfy bed and pillows. The extra facilities of coffee pods and selection of teas was appreciated. Lovely view from the lounge and dining room.
All the staff were welcoming, very friendly and helpful.
Nothing.
