I love every minute of my stay.
Every thing was excellent, rooms spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff always willing to help. Was especially good to be treated to free use of bycilces. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open so can't rate the food.
Great non-city experience.
Everything was done to make this place elegant and luxurious with an authentic historical feel. The quality of food and wine at the hotel restaurant is exceptional and alone worth a visit at the Château. Comparing with other places Château de Gilly is also very friendly for pets, our dog enjoyed our stay there a lot.
The place is ready for closure surely. After a 6 hour drive we were told the bar and restaurant were closed and there weren’t any keys to get us a well earned beer after driving from Northern Italy , so we had a taxi they organised which cost us 50 euros to a nice restaurant. There were enough people there to service the bar and restaurant but they didn’t. Bathroom came with an old fashioned ashtray by the toilet roll holder!!!
The kids they had as staff were clearly embarrassed by the situation. This place should close if they cannot run. restaurant or bar as there is NOTHING in the village it’s situated in. People had obviously gone gone to the local Aldi and stocked up on wine and food and took it back to their rooms as it was evident when we returned from the restaurant at 10.30 with trays of bottles and dishes on the floor. I never complain or give bad reports such as this unless it’s really necessary. What annoyed me was there was no advance warning of restaurant or bar unavailability and no offer of a partial refund, in fact they came after us for 6 euros tax in the car park on departure!!
Absolutely disgusted
Horrendous… no restaurant and no bar open
They organised a taxi for us to a nearby restaurant which cost us 50 euros then chased us for 6 euros tax in the car park, this place should close, corridor had discarded food and empty wine bottles which they obviously had to buy from Aldi in the next town as the village this hotel is in has no bars nor restaurants. Absolutely fuming…. No offer of a discount, just embarrassed teenagers running the reception. Appalling situation !!
I booked this impressive hotel, specifically for its spectacular restaurant, some months before travelling through France on my way to a wedding in Umbria. Imagine my surprise when, or arrival on 27 August 2023, I was told that the restaurant was closed despite the booking having recently been confirmed. At my request, the hotel booked a very good alterative local restaurant, but this unexpected wrinkle tarnished my stay in this otherwise fabulous hotel.
This is the first time we visited Burgundy region , I would say , I’m happy we visited Gilly aside from Beaune France . The location and the property is a very goood experience . Staying in a gothic , roman structure castle in a very nice small town , is a good place to relax and unwind . It is close to very good wineries (in Vougeot ) , le cassisium - where they do creek the cassis (located in Nuits-San- George’s ) . It is close to Beaune , Dijon and more .
The highlights is our dinner , this is one of the best places we ate aside from Hostellerie Cedre in Beaune and Paris . It’s a culinary experience in a castle: chateau …. What more can you ask .
The only downside is no air conditioning - probably because , it’s an old castle and hard to incorporate air conditioning
The hotel is very conveniently located along the Autoroute north to Germany. It is a beautiful chateau with a very nice and friendly team caring for its guests.
We had room 14 on the very top floor, huge indeed with a modern bathroom. There is no lift though, so only suitable with light luggage to negotiate 3 sets of stairs. Generally, this place is not suited for guests with reduced mobility.
Dinner at the restaurant was a very special experience, for the location, the food and particularly for the very competent and friendly team.
We will certainly come back again, when passing through the area next time.
Endroit magique, site remarquable.
Très bon accueil et service.
Experience in this hotel was absolutely incredible, we spend only one night there but it was unforgettable. Unique atmosphere and amazing view from the window , you can feel yourself like a part of a history . Staff is competent and friendly , if you have question or problems don’t hesitate to ask them, everything will be fix in 5 minute
We stayed at Chateau Gilly 12 years ago and it was wonderful. When we arrived last week, the first thing we were told was that they were closing in two weeks for 2-3 years for a ":complete renovation". It felt like a warning, which proved to be true.
The rooms were shabby and a odour of stagnant air in the public areas. Run down and nowhere near a 4 or 5 star status...not even close to a one star. Poor plumbing in the room and when we asked about breakfast, "Coffee and Croissant" €56.00 Euros for two. A miserable experience and guests should be warmed in advance if the hotel is closing imminently.
Middle of wine country. A classic Property.
Tatty hôtel in a beautiful setting visible from the motorway: five star rating apparently but with 3 star amenities! A truly antiquated bathroom, threadbare carpets, bashed -up furniture and a very small, rather pityful swimming-pool in this hôtel with luxury pretensions! Used by large families of tourists a lot of them with pets on their way to or from the South, Very expensive gastronomic restaurant in a spectacular dining-room and a very old-fashjoned cocktail bar are the only plusses. Young, eager staff who perhaps don't know that, now the hôtel has been sold to Caudalie, are expendable to make way for a " real" 5 star establishment!! The " director" brought in to supervise the last months of this once grand hôtel thinks it deserves its rating! He obviously doesn't have to cope with the awful bathrooms!!
