“Charming, Quirky and Full of Character – We Loved It!”
Pros:

After a long drive from Italy we arrived in Colmar slightly tired, slightly hungry, and slightly wondering why European road signs seem to vanish exactly when you need them. Thankfully we had booked Hotel Restaurant Le Maréchal, which turned out to be an absolute gem.

The building itself looks like something from a storybook — the sort of place where you expect a medieval baker to wander past carrying a baguette the size of a canoe. It’s wonderfully quirky and full of character, which makes a refreshing change from the usual “identical corridor and beige carpet” hotel experience.

The receptionist was fantastic and within minutes had basically planned our entire Colmar sightseeing strategy. We went from “we’ll probably just collapse in the room” to “right, we’re walking the old town, seeing the canals and possibly drinking wine somewhere picturesque.”

The bar is charmingly quirky and perfect for a recovery drink after travelling. The rooms are comfortable, cosy and full of character — exactly what you want after a long drive across half of Europe.

Then there’s the restaurant… which is stunning. The food is excellent and the sommelier clearly knows his wines extremely well. Possibly too well, because every recommendation sounded so good that we kept agreeing. At some point we stopped asking questions and just trusted him completely, which is both wonderful and mildly dangerous.

We absolutely loved this place. Beautiful hotel, great atmosphere, brilliant staff and wine recommendations strong enough to seriously test your willpower.

If you visit Colmar, stay here. Just remember: the sommelier is persuasive, and you may leave knowing more about Alsace wine than you planned.

Ferytale hotel
Pros:

The hotel consists of several medieval houses joined in an interior maze.
Rooms vary much in shape and size.
The location is perfect for exploring the medieval heart of the city and the commercial areas around it, all on walking distance.
One side of the hotel faces the river and the other side the street.
The decoration and furniture are classical and nice making an harmonious balance with the age of the building. Bathrooms are modern, nice and comfortable.
We had 3 rooms : a) one suite of under average size with an open plan more like a junior suite. The bathroom was large but instead of a shower cabin it had a jacuzzi, which I appreciate as not beeing very practical ; b) a triple room generously sized with a nice bathroom; c) a deluxe double room of average size with a nice modern bathroom.
WIFI works very well.
Staff were kind although tight on quantity at reception.
The restaurant facing the river is nice and cozy and a maze in itself. They serve a good buffet breakfast. We had a fixed menu during Christmas days which was ok, although with limited options.
The only hotel feature I would not qualify as convenient is that they have no lobby or living room where to sit confortably. A small corner with 5 armchairs just 1 meter from reception makes for all of their lobby.

Room was NOTHING like the pictures it promised on website
Pros:

The reason we came to Colmar was for this hotel. The rooms looked charming. We were so disappointed on arrival. Our room was outside the hotel and down the Street through a dark court yard. There were no decorations in the room, and only one bedside lamp. Bathroom door had no lock and wouldnt close. We were completely removed from the hotel and literally saw no one from the hotel. We thought we were checking into the oldest hotel jn Colmar, even paid extra for the room, but we got a modern apartment jn an annex with no atmosphere! Be careful before you book!

Quaint hotel
Pros:

Great location, smaller rooms by US standards. We had an odd shaped room which was a challenge with our luggage but managed. The bathroom was quite small - especially the shower.

Fairytale stay
Pros:

We just finished a 3 night stay at this hotel. We had a standard double and deluxe jacuzzi double room. We have stayed at hotels all over the world and found this hotel to be the perfect mix of nice, quaint, comfortable and full of culture. Though the standard room was very small, the updated bathroom made up for it. Our deluxe room over looked the canal and it was stunning. Each room has working heat/air and water that is replenished daily. The hotel staff were more than helpful even having our bags brought to our room on arrival. We frequented the bar each night for a pre dinner cocktail and the waitress was incredibly attentive. I had the best Aperol Spritz I have ever had. The location of this hotel in little Venice is perfect! We were within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and the indoor market. We will absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to everyone!

Good to know: the hotel does have a small elevator but most rooms have some stairs to navigate to access the rooms.

Most restaurants in town do not open until 1900 each night and require a reservation.

Loved our stay!
Pros:

We really loved our girls trip stay here!! We stayed in the main hotel as well as Chambre Meublee 1 (apt next door). The apt was just fabulous! Lovely kitchenette area, beautiful bathroom with shower, comfortable bed and fabulous view of the river from the window (no balcony). It was a 14 min walk from train station but that's where the historic area is which is packed with restaurants and shops as well as historic buildings. Very close to everything except the train (that's what Uber is for!) Warning: the main hotel bathroom had a somewhat trecherous tub

Pros:

A charming hotel that despite it's age is well maintained if not a little tight in places as a consequence. Couldn't wish for a better location and the restaurant was amazing.
