I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, who stayed at Victoria Hotel Strasbourg this week.
According to them, the check-in experience was extremely disappointing. My parents only speak German, so naturally communication was a little difficult. However, instead of showing patience or trying to help, the receptionist appeared irritated from the very beginning. He was speaking angrily in French to himself while they were standing there, and although my parents do not understand French, it was quite clear from his tone and behavior that he was talking about them in a negative way.
What also left me wondering was the room they received. It was a very small attic room, with a window that could barely be opened properly. I genuinely wonder whether this is the standard room that corresponds to the price they paid, or whether the receptionist deliberately assigned them one of the least desirable rooms. If this room is considered normal for the rate they paid, then so be it. If not, I believe an explanation would be appropriate.
For me, however, the biggest issue is not the room itself but the way my parents were treated. They are friendly, polite people who always treat others with respect. Yet they left the reception feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and embarrassed, and it affected the start of their trip.
Working in a hotel means meeting guests from many different countries and language backgrounds. A little patience, kindness, and professionalism can make all the difference. Unfortunately, that is not what my parents experienced.
I sincerely hope the hotel management takes feedback like this seriously. No guest should be made to feel like a burden simply because they speak a different language, and no guest should leave wondering whether they were treated differently because of it.
