Terrace Mar

Nice hotel but extra charges spoiled the stay. Despite a booking that said it included the tourist tax and parking we had to pay for both again. Our fault for not taking screenshots of the booking at various stages in the process. The manager was available but we never heard from them about our concerns. Interestingly they acted on part of the comments we submitted at booking but ignored the rest about the paid parking. It’s also a little noisy because of street traffic.

We loved our stay here. Warm welcome. Good sized room for two people. Spotlessly clean. Kitchen are was really adequate for our needs. Beds look firm, but they are very comfy. Had excellent sleep. Quite hotel, really good area to walk to bars and restaurants. We did the walk into Funchal most days. There is a steep hill but you can easily get the bus. All staff very friendly. Roof top pool very clean, lovely suntrap with good views.

Had a fabulous week at the hotel, lovely spacious bright modern room with balcony. Lovely large shower, air conditioned. The roof top pool with beds on different levels is fab, the man on reception when we arrived was lovely and on leaving we had a taxi booked for us straight away and confirmed. Cleaner came everyday, location is great and near many lovely restaurants and bars at both the bottom of the road and also at the top and turn left. Regular buses into the centre which is lovely.

The room was well appointed. Staff were excellent! Best breakfast I’ve had in weeks!

Great location. 15min stroll from downtown Funchal but perfect location for restaurants, shops, public transport & the Lido.
The rooms are huge & spotless! We had a ground floor suite with a balcony. Lovely and quiet with a large walk-in shower.
Good selection for breakfast with hot & cold options and fresh fruit.
Staff were friendly & cant fault the hotel at all.
We will be back!

Terrace Mar is a wonderful place in a great location. The bed was super comfortable, kitchen was functional and having a balcony was great. Breakfast buffet was superb. Staff were very friendly. The rooftop pool was great with awesome views of Funchal. It was one of our favourite places to stay. Highly recommended

I cannot fault this hotel. The rooms were extremely spacious with everything you could possibly need. The pool was spotless with ample loungers and umbrellas. Our room was very quiet which ensured a full sleep every night. Staff were lovely especially the breakfast lady and the lady at reception who arranged a special birthday cake for my sons birthday which occurred during our visit. Last but not least the hotel offered excellent value for money. We will be back!

We are staying here currently and have to sadly say we are very disappointed. Rooms are tired but fine and staff welcoming however the rooms are exceptionally noisy - various banging throughout day and night, furniture moving constantly from higher floors, loud traffic from the road outside which affects our sleep. We did request a change of room but this was not available despite rooms appearing available online. This is frustrating as booking.com suggests that the rooms are soundproofed, which couldn’t be further from the truth. If you want a disturbed stay, come to this hotel. Pool area small and again tired, but does the job. Location seems good. Car park is hard to find and very very tight.

We stayed here for a week as part of a package holiday booked through Easyjet. It is one of the older and smaller hotels in this area of Funchal which seems to be full of big name establishments. Can't say anything other than positives. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room, a junior suite, was spacious and comfortable. It was well equipped with a large bathroom and balcony with a decent view. The room was serviced every day and was absolutely spotless. A nice feature is the roof top terrace and pool. This was never overcrowded and was very clean and well maintained. The terrace included a jacuzzi plus a sauna. We didn't use the sauna but the jacuzzi was OK. There is an option to have breakfast. We didn't take this up but from what we know it's very good. The hotel is a 20 minute walk into Funchal Old Town and about 10 minutes walk to the Lido. There are lot's of very good restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk so it's position couldn't be better. It's also on the major bus routes for those who prefer not to walk. Highly recommended.

Spent 5 nights at this hotel. Lovely hotel, had a huge suite with kitchen and living area, very comfortable, suites are exactly as they appear in photos on hotel website. Nice rooftop poor, great breakfast, good location, about 20 minutes walk to centre of Funchal or bus stop close by. Only few minutes from Lido promenade. Nice restaurants in the area. Staff are extremely nice, very professional, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended this hotel

Great spot to explore funchal, close to lido and 20 mins to town, also a bus stop for town v close. Clean and bright with lovely pool area. Exceptional staff on reception, professional and friendly, close to v good restaurants. Recommend Frank's corner

My wife and I have recently returned from a very enjoyable seven night stay at The Terrace Mar hotel in Funchal and I can't recommend this relatively small four star hotel highly enough.
From the extremely convenient hotel location to the very comfortable rooms and exceptionally helpful staff who even managed to mark my wife's birthday with a 'bottle of bubbles'!
Special thanks must go to Eduardo, Noemie and Carina on reception, Maria and Joa our room cleaners and of course Fatima on breakfast duties.
Thank you all at Terrace Mar for helping to make our week on your truly stuning Island of Madeira so memorable.

very helpfull would stay again

Koselig, lite og veldig hyggelig hotell med perfekt beliggenhet. Likte basengområdet på taket. Hyggelig og flinke ansatte.

Hôtel bien placé. Petit déjeuner copieux et personnel agréable.
Du côté de la chambre, la literie peut être améliorée.
Kitchenette opérationnelle et pratique.
Nous n’avons jamais utilisé le parking, possibilité de se garer dans la rue en payant le parcmètre qui est à 0,70€/heure de 8h à 20h.

Perfectly clean, comfortable and well-equipped for our four day stay. We upgraded to a superior studio which gave us a bit more space, and more importantly, a room on the fourth floor with a balcony nicely elevated above the road. There was also a balcony across the corridor from our front door which had the sun in the late afternoon.

Everything worked, was in good order and the room was cleaned every day.

The hotel is too far out to walk regularly to Funchal city centre, but the bus service is excellent and the 1, 2, 4 and 5a services get you into the centre in around 10 minutes from a stop on the main road less than 100 yards away - never had to wait more than five minutes.

Rooftop pool has an honesty bar for beers and ice creams. Saltwater pool is heated along with the jacuzzi which are a pleasant addition outside peak season.

If you have a hire car you can rent a spot in the underground car park but this is very, very tight (both access to the car park and manoeuvring into spaces within which require advanced parking skills!). However this is possibly a better option than on-street parking which is all metred and is frequently patrolled.

Terrace Mar was a great hotel to stay a week visit in Madeira. Very easy to walk, catch a bus or taxi. Eduardo and Renato at the front desk was very accommodating. Fatima made an amazing breakfast. We loved the rooftop pool and hot tub.

We stayed in this hotel from 23rd Dec 2024 to 6th Jan 2025 and are happy to recommend it.

The staff are very nice, especially the young man on reception who told us about the market and the street party that only happens once a year ( on 23rd Dec) We went along to the party and had a fabulous time.

The lady in the breakfast room was lovely too. She always greeted us with a smile and a "good morning"
Breakfast was excellent, with something for everyone.

Our room with balcony was on street level and there was lots of traffic but once we closed the double glazed patio doors we didnt hear anything and we both slept very well in the comfortable beds.
The suite was spotless, as was the whole hotel.

The rooftop swimming pool was great.

We would be very happy to stay in Terrace Mar again if we return to Madeira.
