Hotel Central Continental

Grossly overpriced, very uncomfortable beds, chipped paintwork on all furnishings,peeling wall paper. Entry by steep steps only with tattered carpet - a real trip hazard - and unsuitable for those with a mobility issue - and no staff to assist with bags.

I will try to summarize my experience to help other travelers.

Once you open the room door, you will feel like you have gone back to the 1980s.

* The furniture is very old.
* There is no air conditioning, only an old fan installed inside a cabinet.
* There is no refrigerator.
* The window has no insect screen, which allows insects and mosquitoes to enter if you open it. I had to choose between sleeping in the unbearable heat or opening the window and dealing with insects.
* The window curtain was torn.
* There was an unpleasant smell coming from the lake at certain times.
* There is no privacy, as the window faces the neighbors’ balcony. We could easily see and hear each other.
* There were no cups, spoons, kettle, tea, or any other welcome amenities in the room.

Overall, the room was far below my expectations and did not provide the basic comfort and convenience I expected during my stay.

Too expensive for getting A/C

Le personnel du matin ne parlait pas un mot d'allemand, français ou italien. Elle ne parlait que ANGLAIS. Je sais qu'il y a beaucoup de touriste anglophone à Interlaken, mais la base d'allemand puisque c'est en Suisse allemande serait la bienvenue.

Hotel looks old, tired and some of public facilities are broken (sink in women public toilet). Stairs welcoming you infront of hotel. Very expensive for the quality. Super hot room, no ari-con, only 1 small fan during summer feels like sauna on daytime.

There was construction equipment on my window, so much for the lake and mountain view, I mentioned that to the reception and their reply was "Oh... " and that's it.

This hotel is 1-star hotel, 2 at its absolute best, but certainly not 3. Therefor the price really does not match the return; it should be half of the €230 we paid per room or less. The maintenance is appalling and the rooms are a jumble of hastily patched-up old parts and random new installations. For instance, one of the three windows was new while the other two were old and difficult to open/close, plus not noise proof. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly at all. The entire hotel was generally mess, as shown in my pictures. There was a Coop shopping trolley parked in the hallway of the 4th floor, seemingly used by the cleaning staff to transport towels; Coop is a local supermarket so clearly this trolley was stolen?!

Randomly, There so many brochures in the lobby area, it was rather comical; we called it the hotel of brochures.

There is no aircon, so expect to be boiling hot in the warmer months since it is too noisy to keep the windows open over night. But to be fair it was not advertised as such.

The breakfast is poor and not very appetising, the staff is friendly enough but probably completely underpaid since they don‘t seem to be fully trained in what they are doing.
