Great location for visiting the old town staff are very helpful & friendly.. the breakfast was very good too I would highly recommend this hotel
The hotel was very clean, the rooms were large and airy and the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much effort!
Excellent!
Very clean and large rooms.
All staff was so very friendly and helpful.
Location is excellent with the option of parking and even charging our electric car.
We really enjoyed our stay and would come back to this hotel if we come to Basel next time!
This hotel is wonderful. It’s in a perfect spot just steps outside of Old Town. I was on the 4th floor. Big room, big bathroom. The breakfast was excellent. Fresh bakery 😋 along with all of the usual breakfast items. The front desk people were wonderful. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
We stayed at the hotel. They treated us very, very well. They made dinner reservations for us and booked a taxi to take us back to the airport.
It's just outside the old part of town, but you can walk everywhere.
100% recommended.
Thank you very much for everything, Hotel Spalentor.
Great location, clean, comfortable. Noisy but we did have the door cracked for fresh air. Friendly staff, easily walkable to the Christmas markets, restaurants and shopping. Would recommend and would stay again.
The Hotel Spalentor is ideally located just on the edge of the city with a local bus stop 100 metres from the hotel. A bus pass was included making getting around the city very easy. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and our room had a 8ft bed. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a wide selection for breakfast. The tv had a range of channels though I did find operating the tv a little difficult. Perhaps some instructions in the room would help. The staff were excellent and very friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Take the train to Colmar in France. The town is very picturesque.
Central location but quiet. Next to tram and bus stops for the airport. Attentive multi lingual friendly staff . Delicious breakfast choices in bright and airy dinning room. Beds super comfy with soft duvets and pillow’s. Would definitely stay again if the opportunity arrives.
Rooms spacious and well furnished. Good coffee in room. Staff brilliant. Convenient location for old town. Only downside is small reception/lounge area when guests checking out and waiting for transportation it fills very quickly so difficult to enjoy a drink. but a minor issue. Best thing about this hotel is the staff!
Lovely hotel, fantastic staff and so easy to get to from the train station. An easy walk into the old city plus free transport the Basel Card
The hotel is conveniently located close to the old town but away from the hustle and bustle. Very clean, spacious room with plenty of outlets and amenities to make you feel comfortable. Front desk staff is very e, knowledgeable and welcoming.
Great location, right outside of the old town by the Spalentor's gate. Within minutes walking you get to museums, shops, restaurants and the river.
Very clean room, friendly and helpful service.
If you select a room with the window facing the garden, it will be quieter.
Will go back to the hotel when in Basel.
On our way to a Viking cruise out of Basel, we decided to go in a couple days early to adjust to the time change, and to wander around the city. We chose Hotel Spalentor primarily for its location. I did not include the breakfast buffet, because we planned to just walk around and find something. Well, the first morning we were a little more tired than expected, so we did in fact do the breakfast. It's basically in the attic of the hotel, but they've done it up very nice and quaint. The buffet was pretty basic, although it did include some very good cheese selections. Service was great, as was the coffee, made fresh cup by cup. Only complaint there is that the cups are very small....so I think we each ended up having 3 cups.
The hotel itself was great. The location is perfect for walking around Basel, and we actually walked across the Rhine river one night for dinner, and it only took us about 20 minutes....and what a beautiful walk! Everything was clean, comfortable and the staff were great. Everyone spoke enough English, that we had no problem communicating. The only negative I could see, might be parking if you have a rental car. We didn't, so I wasn't an issue for us. But there didn't seem to be a lot of parking there....but then that also looked to be the case for the whole city.
Great city to visit, and if we ever go back for a longer stay, we would definitely consider Hotel Spalentor again.
We chose this hotel based on the positive reviews of other travelers, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. The location is outstanding — right across the street from the historic city gate and just steps from the old town. It’s also incredibly convenient to reach, with Bus #30 running directly from the main train station to a stop right across the street.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making us feel truly welcome. Overall, this hotel is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Basel.
Very pleasant short stay. Friendly & attentive staff.Good breakfast.Family four adults age 65 to 92. Visiting a nearby relative. Would stay here again.
Absolutely amazing hotel. The staff could not be more accommodating and helpful. No request t
was too much.
The rooms were clean and roomy. Would highly recommend and stay again.
A very good value for the price we paid. Close to transportation and old town area. The rooms were large with decent closet space. Well stocked amenities like coffee pods. Check-in staff were very polite, helpful and efficient. We enjoyed our one night stay in Basel.
This is a lovely hotel in an excellent location. The staff were so friendly and helpful both at reception and those cleaning the rooms. The room was a good size with a great view of the Spalentor. The breakfasts were varied with more than sufficient choice for everyone.
The hotel was very clean and convenient to walking to restaurants and shops. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and had all the amenities we needed
This hotel sits adjacent to the Spalentor Gates on the edge of the old centre of Basel.
Check in was easy and the lady who took care of us was informative and very friendly. Perfect English as you might expect.
We had a 4th floor room with balcony and it was huge. Plenty of space.
The hotel sits on the tram network and bus stop so its very easy to get around on the (free) public transport.
Overall though we dropped one star not because anything was wrong with our visit as such, but the hotel is slightly dated in some respects. The reception and bar area is small and the rooms - although spotlessly clean could maybe do with a bit of an additional upgrade/modernisation.
It is a great hotel though and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the city.
Thumb up to the staff in particular.
