Nuno, the Manager, was well versed in English, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. He provided us good guidance to explore the hotspots in the area. I would not recommend driving through this area unless you are willing to accept a few surprises with the GPS and locating the various attractions, including your hotel! I would recommend walking within a 10 minute radius of this hotel to find and explore various restaurant choices for food. Don’t settle for the first one you see! There’s a beautiful 19th century castle within 15 minute driving range of this hotel. Highly recommend a visit quite a bit of interesting short hikes and springs and waterfalls around the palace. However, I wouldn’t recommend staying at the Palace hotel. Food there is pricey. And it is very secluded. Just get a couple of drinks or a sandwich at the palace hotel, which will allow me an opportunity to take some pictures of this architectural marvel! Highly recommend visiting the natural holy water, spring! Quite unique, and all of our travels are around the world!
Hotel bem localizado em buçaco, mobiliado com uma temática clássica, de forma bem interessante.
Bom atendimento e muita cultura
Excellent location.
Great location.
Limpeza impecável. Nada assinalar!
Easy to find and check-in.
Loved this little gem of a hotel. Very historic, yet comfortable. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was very relaxed. Highly recommend
Phantastische Stimmung!
It was o.k.
The hotel is old and very simple.
It gives you a filling that you are in a house of someone .
It is near all the atractions.
Loved the old world feel of hotel. Staff super nice and breakfast was great!
Tolles Ambiente, viel Stil !
We had heard great things about hiking in the Bussaco forest so added an evening in Luso to our Portugal trip. We spent the evening at the Alegre Hotel. As others have written, it is an old world family run hotel 18 room hotel. It very much reminded me of places I have stayed in rural France. Everything about the hotel needs to be viewed in the context of what it is. The keys are old style heavy brass, the parlor spaces are rather dark with period furniture, the breakfast room walls are populated by a plethora of ticking clocks that only vaguely keep time, the rooms are high ceilinged, there is no air conditioning and heat in our room on a chilly evening was provided by an electric “wood stove” in the fireplace. All that being said, the bed was warm and comfortable, the bathroom pretty modern and clean, the view over the town from our balcony fantastic, the breakfast very good and the breakfast server very friendly. We left in the morning feeling that we had spent a pleasant evening in another era.
This was our first visit to Northern Portugal and we arrived there very late. We discovered at the airport the car hire company we had booked through did not exist. It took us a while to sort and although I'm sure it was an inconvenience the Hotel were very helpful and Nuno took our calls so we were very appreciative.
This is an old style hotel full of antiques and curiosities and so interesting to look around! The breakfast room is full of clocks! Our bedroom was lovely we had a balcony to the front so we had a beautiful view all over the town of Luso. The bed was super comfortable with clean bathroom.
Breakfast was a mixture of some cooked food and some breads and cereals it would have been nice to have a little more fresh fruit and muesli type cereals.
We sat outside a few mornings and it is really beautiful surroundings.
The gardens and pool are beautiful, lovely to relax at the pool or in the hammocks.
We found it disappointing that there was no pool bar or bar option for lunch, we had to walk into the town anytime we wanted food or drink.
The town of Luso is only a few minutes walk and it is really beautiful. It's very obvious that it has suffered greatly from the pandemic so hopefully tourists will return as it is such a little gem. Restaurants are few but we ate out locally every night and the food was really excellent.
The Palace and Forest of Bussaco are also within walking distance although a little more challenging as uphill but it is really lovely to get to and to walk around. You can spend a lot of time around the area if you enjoy hiking and walking.
Very restful break in a beautiful spot, it us old worldly and like stepping back in time.
Lovely stay.
Lovely hotel staff lovely and helpful extremely lovely breakfast. Area is very nice but very quiet this time of year. Some of the top restaurants were closed. Room was very cosy smaller than we were expecting but really lovely never the less. We would stay again if we were in the area and would depend recommend it to others. Jane and Juan
Besides the fact that this hotel is very well positioned (good view above the village and near the beginning of some Luso trails), we were delighted with the breakfast as regional food was provided. I would say this was one of the best hotel breakfast I can remember of, if not the best so far.
I highly recommend this hotel, anyone can be assured of having a nice and relaxing time there.
