Unfortunately, our stay was completely overshadowed by a serious flooding incident. We arrived in Porto late on May 31, and at around 4:00 a.m. woke up to find our room flooded with approximately 10 cm of water. The flooding extended throughout the hallway and was severe enough to leak into rooms on the floor below.

Our luggage and clothes were soaked, and I lost personal documents and sentimental gifts that cannot be replaced. We had to spend the middle of the night moving our belongings and were eventually relocated to another hotel. The situation was extremely stressful and resulted in a sleepless night.

What was most disappointing was the way the situation was handled. We even had to ask the hotel to provide a taxi to the replacement hotel, as they initially expected us to walk there with our luggage. By the end of the ordeal, there was no assistance offered toward replacing our luggage, which had been soaked and will not be usable for our return trip, nor was there meaningful help with drying our clothes or dealing with the damage to our belongings. We were even unable to obtain a €10 reimbursement for laundry expenses needed to dry our clothes, and we are at least trying to work with Booking.com to obtain a partial refund for the significant disruption and losses we experienced.

As a result, we lost not only a night’s sleep but also a significant portion of our vacation dealing with damaged belongings, laundry, and relocation logistics. The experience caused considerable stress and anxiety and greatly impacted our ability to enjoy Porto. We ultimately decided to leave one day earlier than planned and continue to our next destination.

While accidents can happen, the way this situation was managed fell well below our expectations and left us very disappointed with our stay.
