Das Herausragende war die Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft des Personals, unser Gepäck war nicht angekommen. Schönes altes viktorianisches Hotel, ca. 15 Minuten Gehweg, was in Ordnung ist, als allein reisende Frau vielleicht zu bedenken. Einkaufszentrum in ca. 5 Minuten zu erreichen, im Studentenviertel gelegen, viele viktorianische Gebäude.

Great staff, location good.
Pros:

Room was very quiet, spacious, bed was comfy, linen was pristine!
bathroom need attention probably updating. Room also needing brightening up.

Cons:

Breakfast was good, however very cramped when all guests arrived at same time

Enjoyable stay once you get used to Location
Pros:

The Vulcan Hotel is an Art Deco style hotel located in the Ultimo district of Sydney. It is within walking distance of the Chinatown and Glebe districts. The hotel came with breakfast which included yogurt, oatmeal, breads, fruit, (typical "continental" breakfast). The room was a bit on the smaller side (not a big deal) with a microwave, fridge and electric kettle.
Easiest way to the sightseeing / shopping areas (George St, Queen Victoria Building, Circular Quay, etc) is to walk to Haymarket transit stop; or walk to Chinatown stop and visit Paddy's Market, a shopping and dining experience. There is a shopping mall about 5-10 minutes away to the southwest in the Glebe area and shopping / restaurants to the north towards Darling Harbour. Friends in Tassie told us you can't go wrong eating in a shopping mall as there are various options and the food is good. They were right.

Cons:

The Vulcan Hotel is a little far away from the tourist happening areas. Count on at least a 15-minute walk to the tram stops. Plan to do a lot of walking if you stay here.

Overall okay place. The price is on the higher side though.
Pros:

Nice staff and owners. Overall clean rooms and hotel.
The proprietors were very nice and comforting when we met.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful when I asked about sites to visit.

Cons:

1) Bath area was very small and one kept bumping into the bath area glass partitions. Further, with no hand shower in the bath made it difficult to have a bath comfortably.
2) Old wooden window frames in rooms made it look like a bit too old a property. Wish they would change it to more modern style. No direct sunlight or ventilation.
3) High room rent for the facility made it less appealing.
4) They did not replace the handwash soap when they cleaned the room.

This is the spot to stay in Sydney. Beautiful appointment, very friendly and centrally located. You can't ask for more. My third stay. I will be back.
