Hotel Girassol - Suite Hotel

Nice Hotel, great breakfast, a bit noisy though by the road.

The staff at this hotel are outstanding. They are all very friendly and helpful and consequently offer very good service. The hotel itself is well situated - about a 20 minute walk or a 2 euro bus ride from the centre of Funchal. We were told that the hotel had been recently given a face-lift and the reception and dining room are certainly very slick. We were on floor 8 in a room on the side of the hotel (I had asked for a quiet room) and it was a little bit in need of some decoration - some paintwork was a bit grey/ grubby. However, the room was clean and when we had a slight issue with the bathroom, it was attended to right away. I think all rooms have a balcony. We were on a bed and breakfast basis but the hotel also offers full board. All meals are served in the buffet restaurant, although there is also a small bar where we chose off a menu and had very good waiter service.

Spotlessly clean, efficiently managed with good quality, multiple-choice buffet-style food and excellent service from restaurant, bar and reception staff Hotel Girassol is conveniently located a short bus-ride from Funchal and within walking distance of the Lido bathing area and promenade walks along the coast. Rooms are serviced daily and the lounge/bedroom/bathroom + balcony configuratiuon makes for a comfortable accommodation space. All staff are ever-courteous and friendly ensuring a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

Excellent location, close to local amendments, supermarket, park and bus stop.
Quiet atmosphere and nicely decorated suite, excellent value for money.
Great reception staff, knowledgeable and helpful, friendly bar and restaurant staff, rooms cleaned daily and maintenance done when requested.
All inclusive was a nice addition, always plenty of fresh choices and fresh soups at lunch and dinner which made our life easier with 4 years old fussy eater.

Big rooms with street and ocean view. Big balcony with sun all day. Pool was a bit cold but nice area. Many restaurants to choose from in the area.

We had a wonderful holiday in Madeira which was helped by the Hotel Girassol. The location is just a short walk to all the restaurants and shops. The suite was comfortable and clean, with the maid coming in every day. The shower was over the bath, but was not too high to get into (we are in our late 70s) and the water was wonderfully hot. The air conditioner/heater was welcome as I do get cold at times, we could turn it up, down and off quite easily.
The staff everywhere were pleasant and eager to help. The breakfast was lovely and everything we wanted. The abundance of restaurant staff work extremely hard to accommodate everyone's needs. We were only Bed and Breakfast.
There was little to no noise from the street, our suite was to the side, as for other noise we didn't hear any. The pools looked nice but we weren't brave enough to go in as it was early January.
When we returned from diner a few times we did hear the entertainment in the bar which sounded good.
All in all the value was great, we would definitely return.

A lovely hotel, well situated with great staff and atmosphere.

Room was comfy, clean and well maintained. We had good views from our balcony of a glorious sunset over the sea which was a real bonus.

Food was really good - especially for the price paid - with fresh food, different dishes for mains throughout the week accompanied by fresh salads and bread etc. Desserts were very nice as well which meant extra walks into town or to the Lido was needed!

Entertainment was good in the evenings, pool and bar area was so chilled and friendly during the day. Spent most of the week relaxing by the pool, going for walks to the nearby Lido, shops or into Funchal. Easy walk in but lots of bus options as well - including #48 which stops virtually outside hotel and takes you up by the gardens and top of the cable car/sledging area of the island.

The best thing though were the staff. All were very professional and helpful and made the holiday so relaxed and enjoyable.

Highly recommend. Great value for money.

The staff and service at the hotel were first class, everything was to a very high standard, from cleaning the rooms to serving a drink behind the bar. I would definitely recommend this hotel for couples, families and singles.

we have been to this hotel at least 6 and all ways found it excellent location;atmosphere;rooms;value;cleanliness;noise level; amenities but best of all the staff from reception to restaurant to bar and not to forget maid service all excellent nice and very polite made our stay over Christmas superb

Excellent hotel and services. Breakfasts were good for even vegetarians. The poil areawas very nice, swimming was enjoyable. The location was very good for nice walking trips.

We stayed at the Girasol Suite Hotel for Christmas 2025 on a bed and breakfast board basis. The hotel was an ideal location for what we wanted to do and there was plenty for breakfast to keep us going. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We stayed on the 5th floor and used the stairs up and down each time we left the room, we were pleased to see Laurel and Hardy at the end of each up flight. It states as a four star hotel but unfortunately we would not have put the room and stairwell as this. We had a living area, bedroom and bathroom which was very spacious but it did need a good spruce up. We would recommend the Girasol Suite Hotel and Madeira if you are looking for amazing views, walks and relaxing holiday.

Fabulous stayed for Christmas, lovely staff, great food, comfortable room, also great choice of bars and restaurants around the area, short taxi into the centre.

Great hotel (a bit dated in my opinion). Our Suite was comfortable with a view of the Pools. Food was good with a great selection every day. Situated on Estrada Monumental which is a busy road at the best of times and access to a great Bus network to get you to and from Funchal (Bus numbers 1,2 & 5).

The Staff were very friendly and helpful (Big shout out to Joao in the Splash bar, fellow Maritimo supporter 😊). Looking to rebook May/June 2026.
