Royal Hotel

Nothing in particular.

Entering the lift i noticed it was in need of a good clean and although the room had been decorated the cleanliness let it down,there were what looked like coffee stains down the wall and skirting boards,the sheets had holes in them and the curtains were filthy and not hung correctly, the drawers in the bedside tables and chest of drawers required a clean also noted was the kettle and cups were under the mirror were you would brush your hair etc which I feel is not the best place for it to be. I actually re-hung the curtains they looked so much better even though they still needed cleaning.

Rooms were shabby very tired looking need ha good lick of paint
The sea view window was very dirty outside so you couldn’t see anything
Window frame held together with chock of wood and screws
Double bed was not a double but two singles placed next to each other
Some staff didn’t have a uniform and looked shabby

The rooms need some TLC… but for the price for one night it was ok.
The cleanliness of the over all hotel could be better.
Some staff were rude and some were helpful.
The room was extremely warm.

I am in the process of complaining to get money refunded
We did not stay, first room was unsuitable, no lifts working, room was dirty, complained at desk and we were offered another room, this had broken toilet, dirty with bed shoved against the wall with no access for anybody to get into bed.
We had to leave as no other room offered, we booked at premier inn instead, the hotel was dirty, bathrooms were disgusting and hated the entire 30 minutes we were in the premises. I would recommend any other establishment over this hovel. Booking.com have not replied yet but I hope they refund the cost of our disgusting experience since we were unable to stay in the hotel

The sloping floor in my room, which made me feel dizzy ! It also made the door hard to open. The public premises need to be cleaner and sprightlier, with a more welcoming Reception, and a second lift ! The restaurant needs more friendly lighting and a larger staff.

I don’t know where to start. The room was absolutely disgusting. Thick dust on the lamp shade and fan and was told this was due to building work. That lamp shade had not been cleaned for a very long time. The bathroom was dirty. The taps and plug holes had not been cleaned with thick grime all around. The bed frame was dirty, thick stains on the carpet. The windows don’t open and the room
Is so hot and has a horrible smell of damp. The absolutely filthy fan doesn’t even work. To top
It all off in the morning the bathroom tap would not turn off and the plug was stuck. The sink was flooding and I spent time trying to remove if with a kettle to prevent flooding. When we reported it and ask them to come to the room we were told it’s okay it runs for a while. We complained whilst there. The first time we were told they would clean the room whilst we were out. We came back and there was a throw on the bed and they had moved the cushions but nothing had been cleaned. Absolutely disgusting. Don’t waste your money.

Overall the building was a little tired in places and needed a bit of TLC - though appreciate it is a very old building. Shower riser was not attached to the wall. We only stayed one night for the night before the Scarborough 10K so did not need to use the shower - however, had we tried to use it, it would have fallen off the wall. Just needed screwing back in but felt this should have been noticed and dealt with before our arrival. Otherwise a clean comfortable room.

Absoloutely everything. We waited in the resturant for 2 1/2 hours for a substandard meal.
