Location was perfect
I didn't like we had to pay £75 for parking, the breakfast was very poor, the sausages were solid. The hotel was lacking attention to detail. I know it is an old building, but it was very tired. Round the pool was dirty with clumps of hair. We paid £35 per night on top of the £500 and odd we paid (and the £75 parking) for an up grade. The view was lovely and the bed was comfy but very underwhelming for the price!

The location was fantastic
The room was small, and not well maintained. It was dusty and had stains. You had to pay £25 per night for parking that we weren't made aware of before we arrived. The TV didn't work. And the lights in the room were on a time. When I told staff on reception they just smirked.
The location is fabulous - right on the lake shore in the heart of Bowness on Windermere close to all the shops and restaurants
Where to start …. It is so sad that Macdonald have let this iconic hotel become so tired and shabby. I suppose for as long as people are willing to spend £250 per night they won’t invest - but it really is well past its best. The staff need to have a property they are proud to work in not the bored, quiet indifference that seems to pervade the Old England. Stick to the cereals on the breakfast - my partner had a really bad stomach after the eggs. Also if you do end up staying there and find yourself in room 307 - check whether the vibrator left by a previous inhabitant is still under the bed side table. We did tell reception it was there but I’m far from confident they would remove it.

In a great location. We had a lake view from our room.
Breakfast was very disappointing. We book Macdonald hotels because they normally have great hot freshly cooked breakfasts. This time it was a buffet because of “problems in the kitchen.” The food was lukewarm, the sausages had been reheated at least once and the scrambled egg left a lot to be desired. Macdonald hotels are not cheap and when the reason you booked is not up to scratch it is very disappointing.
Location is excellent. Food is superb and staff are lovely.
The breakfast was cold and the toast was really thin not like the crusty toast we have been used to in other hotels!

The ladies on reception were all friendly.
Breakfast is always a bit of a gamble, sometimes warm sometimes not. Buffet style this time which was better than waiting from the kitchen, which is invariably lukewarm.
