Charmant hôtel bien situé. Bon rapport qualité prix, staff très agréable. Seul point négatif: moquettes sales dans les chambres.

We are so impressed by Hotel du Vin that we are fashioning our own home bedrooms & bathrooms in a similar style. The beds are always an amazing rest for my sore back after travelling & the deep baths are refreshingly relaxing. We left an expensive pair of hiking poles & the staff were able to locate them & bring them to us. Khathi & Analisa were lovely on reception, they were not pretentious at all, instead they were kind, down-to-earth & helpful. It is great to see that the world famous Bedlam Asylum has been carefully crafted into another beautiful HDV.
Location was perfect. Breakfast was excellent. Aurora was very friendly and accommodating with the breakfast service. Kalpesh served me several times and was excellent at his job.
It was a little pricey.
We had a great experience at Hotel Du Vin & Bistro. We spent 4 nights here at the beginning of our 2 week Scotland adventure. It's perfectly located to easily walk to the Royal Mile, Victoria Street and all sites and attractions surrounding those spots, while being slightly out of the middle of it all so it's more quiet.
The room had a lot going for it...we had a spacious suite. (Suite in this case is a very large room, as opposed to separate rooms as it often is when you see "suite.") There were many nice things in the room...a gorgeous tub, well appointed bathroom area. It may have felt a bit busy with lots of extra decorative and functional things overlapping each other.
The bathroom didn't have a counter of any kind so we couldn't quite set up our bathroom items and had to live out of the toiletries bags we brought.
We had a fantastic experience in the restaurant for breakfast. There's a continental buffet (including one of those fantastic super-automatic espresso machines) plus you got to order prepared hot food off the menu.
Our server each morning was Angela who we loved...she welcomed us and took very good care of us all 4 mornings.
The hotel doesn't have a grand lobby...the entry area is a small space but once you get to know your way around there are many adorable and comfortable sitting spaces all over the maze of the hotel.
We'd definitely stay here again.
Visited today for Sunday lunch and to say I was disappointed would be an under statement. You can visit the chefs table for your starters and the selection was average and the prawns all had to be shelled and in all honesty not worth the bother as of your hands end smelling of shellfish! We both went for the roast beef, and as you can see from the photograph it was 2 very thinly sliced Pieces with a lot of fat, the roast potatoes were dry and the veg under cooked and hard, as for the Yorkshire pudding it was dry and definitely not made that day. Our tart although tasty the base was not cooked through.
Overall disappointing!
This is a very disappointing hotel for the (high) price. The positives are that it is well-located, just five minutes’ walk from the Royal Mile, and that the food, at breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, was very good. The rooms are stylishly but eccentrically designed, with lots of drawbacks such as noisy plumbing and a shower that dripped for ages after being switched off, very few electric power points, a safe box that was placed way too high up, and very limited wardrobe space and few clothes hangers. Pretty but not user-friendly.
But the real problem was that the staff, although pleasant and friendly, were not really helpful. When we realised that reaching our room involved a lot of walking including climbing a flight of stairs (because the lift didn’t go that far), we explained to the receptionist that my wife has difficulty walking, but the receptionist made zero effort to see whether she could find an alternative room - quite extraordinary. The following day, we stayed in the room during the morning, but we asked in the early afternoon for the room to be cleaned - we were promised that this would happen, but it took three hours and another phone call for that to be done. Not what one would, or should, expect from a hotel at this price point.
Lovely hotel, great location, room was exceptional and breakfast first class.
Nothing

Absolutely outstanding, the staff were fantastic and we received a free upgrade. The suite was enormous with every facility you could imagine. It may be slightly expensive but it is well worth it. It also had a private courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it blew our mind.
I struggle to think of anything that I didn’t like but if I was to be very picky I would like more beer choices at the bar
Location and up grade of room
Difficult to navigate around, more signage would have helped
