Hotel Northern Star

The location is great, but if you’re looking for a clean, friendly hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
The staff are not approachable. There is a young lady that works the evening shift. She really tries to be helpful.
When there is an issue, the staff refer you to the manager, but won’t give you the manager’s phone number and after being told the manager will be in tomorrow and you call to speak to the manager, they tell you they don’t know when the mgr will be in and to call back the next day.
I stayed at this hotel a year ago, it wasn’t that bad of a hotel, just a bit run down back in January 2025. But now after a year of not keeping up with the upkeep of this hotel. It’s horrible. Runs are all dirty and the hotel has a horrid smell. Probably of not keeping it clean or cleaning it properly.
The rooms are filthy, the blankets covering the bed have stains on them and if a mini fridge doesn’t work they just put another mini fridge on top of the broken one. Several main floor windows had been broken and not fixed properly, the filth in the room makes the room smell terrible. All the non smoking rooms have been smoked in. The pullout couch had blood stains.

If you do go to this hotel, be prepared to be ripped off. They will double charge your credit card and refuse to return the hold or refused to refund you, using whatever excuse they can find. This hotel should be condemned and a new one built. Yes, it’s that bad!
I should have read the reviews but didn’t. That will be a life lesson going forward.

This was my last resort for a place to stay in town. If it comes down to that again I will sleep in my truck.

Nothing was good about the hotel

The property was poorly maintained! Continental Breakfast was very bare minimum. Old boiled eggs sausage links dry hash browns and warm beans. Minimal cereal station with toast and coffee. There was tea selection available but you have to ask for hot water that was only from the tap! Definitely wouldn’t recommend!

Found the place quite run down. Clean enough but room smelled of stale smoke. Bathroom safety rail loose. Not enough counter space in bathroom. Needs updating very badly.

Place is falling apart

Had decent wifi, but no hot water. I informed staff the hot water was not working, and they said maintinance would fix it, but nothing was done. Included breakfast is supposedly served until 9am, but I went to the lobby at 9:02am and there was no evidence food had ever been served there.

I'm lucky Wal Mart was 1.2km away so I at least I had canned food to eat while I waited 2 days for the only bus out of town.

If i could give 0 stars I absolutely would. The hotel is disgusting and smells of old musty smoke. Like your 86 year old chainsmoker unkle stayed in the room for 6 years before you got there. It made it hard to even sleep and my only thought the whole time was omg... if it smells this bad how is the cleanliness of it ... that being said it was 1am and myself and my guy were exhausted. So we slept for a couple hours. Now. Let's have a shower OK.... heres another fun part. The tiles in the shower are kept in with pin nails which means if I pulled one off id almost bet there is so much black mold underneath. So, turn on the water all the way hot to warm it up. No hot water...5 mins later still no hot water to be spoken of. The sink was full of gunk and around the taps was filthy. I owned a housekeeping buisness so this is a non negotiable for me. I know what clean is and in any other hotel I've stayed at they seem to as well. DO NOT RENT A ROOM HERE EVER. THIS PLACE NEEDS AN ENTIRE REMODEL AND NEW FURNISHINGS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST HOTEL IVE EVER STAYED IN. NEVER AGAIN

Very Disappointed – Not Worth the Price
The cost was outrageous for the rundown condition of the room we received. The roof was leaking in the lobby, and there was extra room furniture being stored in common areas, which gave the place a very unprofessional feel.

Our bathroom was in poor shape—the bathtub shower curtain was barely hanging on, and it looked unfinished overall. It also took about 30 minutes of running water just to get a warm shower. When I asked the front desk, they simply said, “Yes, it needs to run for a bit before it gets hot.” That’s unacceptable for any hotel, especially at this price point.

I've stayed at hotels for a fraction of the cost and had a much better experience. Would not recommend.

The room was clean

Although it has an antique style, the place is clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced for the accommodation, and the staff were satisfactory.

Worst hotel ever, I canceled my room cause it was so dirty, blood on the sheets ang bathroom was disgusting and they still charged me for the room, terrible service, Expedia should not promote this hotel
