If you are looking for a corporate style hotel with a sterile environment, The Kauai Inn is not for you. We stayed here for two weeks, our second visit, and would return in a heartbeat. Travel from the mainland was grueling and we arrived after dark to find that the usual route to the Inn was closed for construction, necessitating taking the "back road" which was narrow, dark, winding and mysterious. In the daylight? Just beautiful! We were warmly greeted and soon were settled down. Our room was clean and comfortable, equipped with microwave and small fridge, a very comfortable bed, and a lanai with view of the mountains. The TV was not working right, which was no issue for me but spouse was sad so the owner came by to fix it, and when that proved impossible, went out and bought a new unit and installed it on the spot. THAT is above and beyond attentiveness, in my opinion. The breakfast options were more than adequate, and 24/7 access to coffee (Keurig) and tea was lovely. The music, both live and recorded, was relaxing and welcome. Without exception, the staff from the groundskeepers to housekeepers to front office to the proprietor were so genuinely friendly and helpful. This is a perfect place to really relax and just "be" and exploring the island from here is easy. There are lots of places to eat in town. The March Kona storm dumped a LOT of rain, and because our rental vehicle was not AWD and the tires kind of iffy, we opted to get some "provisions" and stay put the last two days of our visit rather than chance the mudslides on the road to the Inn, and we were perfectly comfortable doing so.
Very friendly, helpful staff, from front desk folks to groundskeeper to the cleaning staff. Clean rooms. Bed comfortable, good shower. Small patio overlooking mountains - great view. Nice size inn - nothing too far away. Live music poolside in the evening 3x/week. Continental breakfast included cereals, yogurt, bagels, muffins, croissants, and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea available 24hrs. Plenty of seating in courtyard around the pool. Easy to get into Lihue - easy drive but also easy walk. Small bridge out during our stay, but is opening soon. Couldn't drive into Lihue but able to walk.
This is a great little gem of a hotel on Kauai that preserves the "Aloha" spirit. The reason for a 4 star review is that the mattress was uncomfortable (needed to be flipped or replaced -- big dip) and the room AC was noisy. That said, the staff are wonderful and the free breakfast, live music, and critters roaming the property were terrific. We would definitely stay again and recommend.
We arrived at the Lihue airport car rental office and put their address in my GPS. After a number of attempts to arrive at the hotel after midnight only to be taken to a road closure. We called your check in desk only to be told that the road to the hotel from the airport was closed. She said to follow our GPS we must enter Costco first then re enter the hotel address from there. To no avail it took us right back to the same road closure. Don't you think the hotel should inform customers fo the route issue and provide updated instructions. The hotel emailed us a number of times welcoming us to the hotel but no driving directions. What annoyed us even more is we contacted to hotel the next day but didn't even get a response. Very disappointed.
Quiet secluded location on 2 acre property framed by the Hā'upu Mountain range. Although the property and decor is dated and a bit worn - everything was comfortable (beds, bedding) and in good working order (cold A/C, plenty of hot water, good water pressure etc.) Nice continental breakfast in pleasant outdoor setting. Good value considering prices in Kauai. Attentive front desk and housekeeping service. Recommend for the budget traveler.
Affordable location near the airport and also less than 3 miles from costco. Loved the live music provided during our stay. The room was perfectly sized for me and my husband and very clean. The AC was strangely noisy but airpods were used. The water in the bathtub did fluctuate from hot and cold at times, but no big deal. Simple breakfast in the morning with some bagels, muffins, coffee, etc to get our day started.
My husband and I booked for a stay Jan 22-30, 2026. The Inn was exactly what we wanted. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. Our room was refreshed daily which was a bonus as most hotels do not do this unless you request it. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beach towels were available for the pool and for any excursions for free. Breakfast was continental but nice with coffee 24/7. The location was good and provided excellent access to the Islands’ activities. We would definitely stay there again.
They told us this Inn was the first hotel in Hawaii and had changed locations only once. Great location near the airport but also close to the southern and eastern coasts with great and varying beaches on both sides of them. We visited Lydgate Beach Park and walked the beach with beautiful waves and driftwood and soft sand. It also has a sea wall that protects smaller fish of all colors from predators and thus has good easy snorkeling - really good for kids but I enjoyed it too. Poipu Beach is only about 25 min drive on the southern shore and has great snorkeling, swimming, and we saw 20 large turtles swim up onto the sand and sleep one afternoon!!! The staff are local and friendly, rooms are big and nice with views of the patio/pool and mountains. The breakfast on the pleasant patio with mountain views is included and had nice pastries, cereal, bagels, fruit and lots of drinks hot and cold etc - a good meal! It's clean and quiet and is a beautiful drive down into the gorge from the main road. The pool is small but still nice to have. I would love to come back with more time!
TERRIBLE!!! Due to the state of emergency, our flight was cancelled and we were unable to keep the reservation. As soon as we knew (the day before the reservation) I called and spoke to the manager, Philip. He said he had no issue cancelling the reservation but I had to contact Expedia (since it was booked through them). Expedia was lovely and agreed to cancel pending the approval for the hotel. Expedia then came back on the call and said that Kauai Inn would not work with them. I called Philip back and he then said that they would not work with me. I asked for the owner/ general manager to give me a call regarding this and later that evening, the general manager called and was the RUDEST person I have ever dealt with. Condescending, disrespectful and completely unwilling to work with us. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESORT AT ALL COSTS! I requested a call from the owner and I was told that they REFUSED to forward my concerns. TERRIBLE customer service.
The Highest Compliment We can pay the Kauai Inn is for the
Second Year in a row is we stayed for last 2 weeks of December
at the Kauai Inn.
As others have stated we had a cat stay with us in the same room same Cat Jazzy.
We are planning to make it 3 years in a row Dec 2026.
!
Amazing place! Beautiful views, right next to the mountains and waterfront.
The best part are the cats! The property has a few which are super friendly and you can have them stay in your room. Two followed me straight in and slept with me!
Breakfast is also great with delicious coffee.
Best hotel in Lihue!
Staying in the Kauai Inn was the best choice ever! If you wanna connect with nature, eat your fresh breakfast with peacocks, cats, enjoy mountains and beach with warm ocean, you must go there🤩 The staff here really kind and helpful. There are a lot of night concerts, and movie nights. However, beds are sooo cozy, and pillows, blankets are crisp and fresh😊😊😊 Everything is clean, and everyone is care about plants, cleanliness. For that price it’s more than enough. I absolutely recommend that hotel!!! Thanks for wonderful experience🥰
This is the second time we stayed here this year. The first was in June. We enjoyed the atmosphere, breakfast under the plumeria tree and aloha spirit that is shared by all. They did not disappoint this time again . The room is large and equipped with a frig and microwave. Will come back again.
The Kauai Inn is a quiet, peaceful Inn. The grounds are pretty. It’s situated about a mile walk from the commercial district of the Anchor Shopping area and the Harbor Mall and Kalapaki Beach. It’s a 3 mile drive to Costco. We stayed for 35 days and thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility and abundance of aloha from the owner and all of the staff.
It was great staying at kauai inn. Alfred was really helpful and was great to take care of us.
I would recommend staying here at Kauai Inn.
We arrived after midnight to a very nice hotel staff. The hotel is charming and clean. Loved the continental breakfast. Overall a very good experience.
Stayed for seven nights in December 2925: Clean place, friendly staff (Alfred was super helpful) relaxed atmosphere, well kept grounds, quiet at night. Plenty of free beach towels with free towel exchange. Breakfast was just okay ( fresh fruit as advertised, choice of cold cereals, yogurt, croissant, bagel, toast, muffins) but loved the 24/7 coffee availability. Also, front desk is staffed 24/7. The pool was tiny, but accommodated kids. A few evenings with live music (ending by 8 or 9). Friday evening, they showed a movie on a big screen in back lawn area for everyone, a nice bonus! Snorkel gear offered for free was adequate. There were friendly cats wandering around that you could pet or avoid as preferred. Yes, roosters too. The one negative (because I am a curmudgeon) was that all rooms look on the pool, so if the pool area is loud, you can hear it. This place is a great value and we plan to return to it with our next Kauai visit.
Alfred was so helpful from check-in to our departure! There aren’t many workers that make sure a guest is 100% taken care of but Alfred is that guy! He carried all of our luggage up to the second floor (no elevator) and just overall made our stay amazing!
I couldn’t recommend the Kauai Inn more. The warm atmosphere and friendly staff made it a wonderful stay, and one I would happily return to in the future. Lots of afternoon shows and activities, along with an amazing breakfast!
This place perfectly reflects the Kauai experience I was hoping for. It has a true local vibe, especially in the evenings when live music and lively gatherings fill the pool area—the heart of the property. The hotel is conveniently located for exploring all parts of the island, yet it still feels like an energizing and relaxing spot to spend both nights and days.
To top it all off, the service and kindness of the entire staff are outstanding—especially Alfred, who is always there to help, no matter the hour.
Thank you so much for your hospitality!
