when we arrived at kauai inn it felt as if we had landed in paradise. the grounds are set in the backdrop of hills and everything has a feeling of calm (the aloha feeling).

our room was functional with large beds (king size ) and basically had all you need including a microwave and a fridge to heat prepare and store food.

after experiencing lots of places where you had to pay for everything extra it was a pleasure to stay somewhere where the additional bits and pieces (24 hour coffee and water, beach bits and pieces, chairs , umberellas, snorkelling stuff, parking and a continental breakfast) were all included.

chris and phillip were great hosts and added to the familiar aloha feeling. we really enjoyed our stay and have no reservations recommending the inn to others looking for an unpretentious aloha feeling.

Excellent service everything was perfect specially Elton he did an amazing job while I was there with my family also Jen and Chris, they also have a lady who cleans the room every single day which is amazing because every night we comeback The rooms was clean and organized I will definitely recommend it the location is also great next to the mountains.

We loved our stay at Kauai Inn, absolutely recommend it to all! Elton and all the other staff were so friendly, kind and welcoming, they took such good care of our needs especially our toddler. They lend us all beach supplies including pool toys so we didn’t have to carry everything while we were traveling for our vacation here….less luggage to pack.
We enjoyed our stay here and would love to revisit. Thank you Kauai Inn for such a great experience.

The staff and atmosphere were unbelievably pleasant. I was so pleased with the unique and authentic Hawaiian experience. This was a very special trip for my girlfriend and I. I proposed in our room at the Kauai Inn with the help of Elton who works the front desk. I couldn't have made it as romantic and special without his help. I gave him decorations for the the room and by the time we got back from dinner there were candles and rose petals all over our room and bed with complimentary champagne. He helped me make my girlfriend feel so special. I will forever be grateful to the staff for their care . She said yes!! We will be spending our anniversary every year at the Kauai Inn. The room has a beautiful view and big bathtub. The peacocks and chickens entertained me the entire time. I would recommend this hotel to any visiting the island 🏝 😀

The air conditioners are so loud that even if yours is turned off at night, the units in the neighboring rooms create an eerily loud background noise. And if that doesn’t bother you, then perhaps the countless free-roaming roosters on Kauai will. They’re a real nuisance and crow nonstop from 3 a.m. until 9 p.m. This has nothing to do with the rustic charm one might expect. Breakfast is served outdoors (rain or shine). The staff is constantly scrambling to keep up with the guests. Something is always running out, and due to the limited space, there’s a constant line. Plus, you can’t leave your food unattended because the chickens immediately jump all over the tables. The hotel has so much potential (location, pool, evening program, free beach towels and chairs available for rent), but they’re not making the most of it. What a shame! Cleanliness was only average, and there were absolutely no hooks on the wall to hang anything, no storage options, and no armchair or chair. The front desk had no idea what a separate luggage rack was and couldn’t provide one even when asked. So one suitcase ended up on the cabinet in front of the TV, and we put the second one on the ironing board. You don’t want to put your stuff on the floor. Especially since cockroaches have already been spotted in other reviews. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel at all. Anyone who wants to sleep and eat in peace needs to find another place to stay immediately.

We had a great vacation at The Kauai Inn and Eiton at the front desk really helped make this trip memorable with giving us locations and tips to capitalize on the stay in Kauai.

This place is a gem, as soon as I got here the hospitality was unmatched. Cool atmosphere and friendly staff, Elton has been super helpful all around and really made us feel at home. Can’t wait to come back.

Older hotel that you could call "retro", but it's just an older facility that has been updated as required to meet the needs of the guests. The rooms are clean and well kept, and even though the styles are not the latest, everything works as it should. Located right next to a mountain range about 15 minutes from the airport, it's a quiet, comfortable place to be. Whether you are relaxing by the pool or exploring other parts of the island and just come back to sleep, you can enjoy free breakfast, WI-FI, entertainment and many other amenities the larger hotels offer, and one they don't: outstanding, personalized service. The owners treat you like you're friends and family, and bend over backwards to ensure you have a good time.

Spent 4 days in Kauai and stayed here at the Kauai inn, the first hotel of Hawaii. The hotel still maintains its originality but don’t get me wrong everything works. It’s clean, has a great Mountain View, decent breakfast, activities in the evening like music and movie nights, free chairs and beach towel during the stay, wildlife including peacocks and cats, and above all the friendly staff. I was helped by Elton, Chris and Kaylee amongst few. They all were super helpful and nice. I particularly loved knowing Elton, what a nice young man with bright life ahead - super helpful and nice and gave me good idea about the history of the inn. I loved Kauai and will visit again. If you want to spend few days in Kauai then Kauai inn is a great place to spend your time. The peace and calm you’ll experience there is parallel to none.

Great location to airport, very comfortable and makes for a great Kauai experience! Elton was a great employee checking us in and accommodating the whole stay. We’ll be back for sure!

Really loved the quiet vibes and beautiful view of this place. The room was very spacious and clean, and the service was great. Elton helped us check in and made our experience even more memorable by pointing out all of the interesting animals you can see here!

We had the most unforgettable experience thanks to Elton, who went above and beyond to help my fiancé plan the most beautiful proposal in our hotel room. None of it would have been possible without him—his attention to detail and genuine care made it truly magical. Kylie was also absolutely wonderful, greeting us so warmly and even surprising me with a sweet birthday gift. The owner/manager was just as amazing, making sure everything was perfect from start to finish.

This was such a special moment in our lives, and they made it more incredible than we ever could have imagined. We’re so grateful!

This hotel had everything we needed and what we were looking for. Elton checked us in and he was great. He answered all our questions. He was a great resource for local attractions, trails to hike and places to eat. The hotel was built in the 1930’s I believe. You can tell the age by the style and design. If you’re looking for the ritz or Hilton go somewhere else. If you’re looking for a clean place that has all you need and located in a great spot with a good value, then this is it. They have a small pool and many tables and chairs. They offer beach towels if you want to walk to the beach, they have a nice fruit and bagel breakfast, laundry room, parking very close to your room and even had an outdoor movie theatre on Saturday night. They play nice Hawaiian music pipes throughout the courtyard. We felt safe here with the 4 “motel style” buildings in a rectangle formation with a beautiful courtyard in the center. The staff was all friendly and had anything we needed. The rooms have been updated over the years, the bed slept great, the A/C worked well. We would recommend for anyone that has common sense normal standards of living. Again, not “Hilton fancy” so if you’re one of those people, move on, but if you want good breakfast, clean rooms, great staff and easy to get to, this is a fit for you.

This quickly became our favorite place to stay in Kauai. Chris and Phil, who run the place, put an emphasis on customer service. It shows with the delicious includes breakfast, 24hr coffee stand, live music, personal help with booking activities, and welcoming atmosphere. The location is central, close to the airport, but you feel miles away from everything, nestled under majestic cliffs near an ancient fishpond. I can’t wait for friends to tell me they are going to Kauai, just so I can send them here. I stayed in Poipu first, and ended up just wishing I stayed here the whole time.

Kauai Inn is a dump!!! Do NOT stay here! We paid $2,321.99 for 6 nights ($387 avg per night). The bathtub/bathroom was disgusting. When we entered the room, it had a really bad smell. There was so much furniture in the small room we couldn’t even walk around the beds. They had 2 large tables and a large chair on the left side of the king size bed. If you wanted to put your clothes in the dresser drawers you had to move the twin size bed AND large chair to access it. The photos online don’t look anything like what our room looked like. This place was so bad we checked out after 2 nights and we couldn’t get our money back because we had to pre-pay in advance. Now I know why. Even the 1st floor rooms have stairs to get up to the room. I’m posting photos online of our room on the websites that allow reviews with photos.

Owner Philip and Manager Chris work tirelessly and always cheerfully to make sure their guests have what they need and feel welcomed. As a frequent Kauai visitor, I've known of The Inn for years, but never had the opportunity to stay there. When a late flight home cancelled and the airline booked my overnight accommodations, I happily saw that I would be going to The Kauai Inn. Faced with tired and frustrated airline passengers at midnight, I marveled watching Philip and Chris and their staff treat everyone with kindness and compassion, while swiftly resolving each person's needs. Stellar customer service, and I told them so. Accommodations were comfortable and truly old-style Hawaiian, a rare treat in these slick resort times. Philip even personally drove me back to the airport in his truck the next evening to catch my rebooked flight. This establishment will be successful because they truly care for their guests and go the extra mile in every department. Great outdoor breakfast buffet also, complete with several live peacocks! I highly recommend you book here!

If you are looking for a corporate style hotel with a sterile environment, The Kauai Inn is not for you. We stayed here for two weeks, our second visit, and would return in a heartbeat. Travel from the mainland was grueling and we arrived after dark to find that the usual route to the Inn was closed for construction, necessitating taking the "back road" which was narrow, dark, winding and mysterious. In the daylight? Just beautiful! We were warmly greeted and soon were settled down. Our room was clean and comfortable, equipped with microwave and small fridge, a very comfortable bed, and a lanai with view of the mountains. The TV was not working right, which was no issue for me but spouse was sad so the owner came by to fix it, and when that proved impossible, went out and bought a new unit and installed it on the spot. THAT is above and beyond attentiveness, in my opinion. The breakfast options were more than adequate, and 24/7 access to coffee (Keurig) and tea was lovely. The music, both live and recorded, was relaxing and welcome. Without exception, the staff from the groundskeepers to housekeepers to front office to the proprietor were so genuinely friendly and helpful. This is a perfect place to really relax and just "be" and exploring the island from here is easy. There are lots of places to eat in town. The March Kona storm dumped a LOT of rain, and because our rental vehicle was not AWD and the tires kind of iffy, we opted to get some "provisions" and stay put the last two days of our visit rather than chance the mudslides on the road to the Inn, and we were perfectly comfortable doing so.

Very friendly, helpful staff, from front desk folks to groundskeeper to the cleaning staff. Clean rooms. Bed comfortable, good shower. Small patio overlooking mountains - great view. Nice size inn - nothing too far away. Live music poolside in the evening 3x/week. Continental breakfast included cereals, yogurt, bagels, muffins, croissants, and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea available 24hrs. Plenty of seating in courtyard around the pool. Easy to get into Lihue - easy drive but also easy walk. Small bridge out during our stay, but is opening soon. Couldn't drive into Lihue but able to walk.

This is a great little gem of a hotel on Kauai that preserves the "Aloha" spirit. The reason for a 4 star review is that the mattress was uncomfortable (needed to be flipped or replaced -- big dip) and the room AC was noisy. That said, the staff are wonderful and the free breakfast, live music, and critters roaming the property were terrific. We would definitely stay again and recommend.
