Good Bargain For Some
Pros:

Given the price point, I was not expecting the "luxury" tag to apply. I was pleasantly surprised by the gracious size of the suite. Honestly, it's very comfortable. As others have offered, however, the condition of the place is a potential issue. It's not that it isn't clean - it is - it's just that it is pretty well worn. Stains on the sofa. Fraying on the edges of the living room rug. Rusting on some of the fixtures. Feels like the end of an era. Again, the issue is price point. If you're comfortable w/ the facilities being a little rough around the edges, it's a great bargain. If you're not, you should look elsewhere.

The worst hotel.
Pros:

This is a horrible hotel. It is a dump. We booked our suite months ago and they gave us a basement room next to housekeeping! Seriously?? 9 floors and many open rooms when we booked and they stuck us in their nasty basement. The rooms are old, damp, and ugly. The rooms look like they are from the 50’s and 60’s. Old panel walls and the wiring for the rooms are done through holes in the walls with the wires running across to ceiling.
The furniture is dirty and the windows have vertical blinds with panels missing, so there’s no privacy. We wanted to cancel our reservation and find a better hotel in DC, but that was not an option.
This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It looks like it belongs in a 3rd world country. And the male clerk who checked us in was rude. A terrible experience from beginning to end.

I really wanted to like the Eldon
Pros:

The location to the Convention center and restaurants is ideal. Other positives: The suite is spacious and uncluttered. The kitchen and appliances were another plus. The housekeeping staff was friendly & prompt. Now for the negatives. We had a street facing room. The windows didn’t seal (drafty) well and let too much noise and smoke. There’s only 1 small tv, that’s inadequate for a suite that size. There’s room for improvements to make this a desired hotel.

It was so promising.
Pros:

I am confident that when the Eldon was refurbished in 2009 as a luxury establishment it probably was just that, and to a small degree it still is. My unit was spacious, provided amenities like full kitchen, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, separate bedroom, plenty of closet space, etc. So, a great choice for extended stays and a short 5 min walk to the convention center. Loved that!!

However, my first impression would soon quickly dissipate. There are a couple of steps on the exterior and when you first go inside. This makes for challenges with your luggage or if your disabled. Upon close inspection in my actual unit, I found the bathroom revealed that it was in need for some touch ups. Seals around the shower were very discolored and mildew infested. Some of the metal hardware was completely rusted over.

As I looked closer in the kitchen, the dishwasher appeared to have been leaking, and not the correct size, so it was sticking out and exposing discolored fabric being used to help provide a makeshift seal around dishwasher to keep it in place.

Moving on to the bedroom. The mattress was extremely worn so there was a dent in the mattress where I presume most folks ended up rolling into while they slept. You could feel the mattress springs, so I had to overlay the fitted sheet with the blankets to help provide a little bit more cushion.

For me the straw that broke the camel’s back is for my entire 6 days I had no hot water in my shower. How is that even possible? I reported it every day, and every day they said some mysterious maintenance person would fix. But sadly, the issue was never resolved for me. I guess because I was reporting the situation every day, they were sure to discount my stay for all the inconvenience, which I am grateful for, and the staff was pleasant. I presume they may have feared a negative review as well, but unfortunately until they fix some of these issues, I cannot subject myself to go back. But when they do, I will certainly return for sure.

Pros:

For the duration of my stay, the elevator was out of order and my room was on the 8th floor. I was told upon checking out that I would be receiving a discount of some sort for the inconvenience but

Pros:

From the time I checked in until the time I left, the staff was friendly and accommodating. While the renovation of this building may have been done some time ago, they used high quality materials and I found everything to my liking. The living room & kitchen area were large and quite nice. The bed and furniture were very comfortable. It is very quiet and close to what I needed. I would stay here again if I am in the area.

Pros:

While the property was in a great location and seemed kept up, the latter was not the case. The AC was not working for the first night, was not fixed until noon the following day and went out again on the second morning and the room was not colder than 77 degrees. I have read previous reviews of this happening but I decided to take the risk. It was maneagble but i could only imagine how terrible it would be in the hot summer months. Depsite having a kitcken there was no pots and pans and limited kitchen ware. I was told they encourage guests to bring their own cookware, first time i have ever heard that statement from a hotel that has a full kitchen. The front desk "took note" of the AC situation and said they will find a comprimising solution. I am still waiting for that solution.

Best stay for the price
Pros:

Great rate, especially for it's proximity to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The outside really got cleaned up since Natty Guard came and went.
