The location was perfect for our needs. The room was spacious and comfortable. The pool area was nice. Staff was pleasant and helpful! The entire property was clean!!
We didn't eat at the hotel as the prices were too high. The menu looked great but again too much $$. Standard practice for housekeeping should be to FILL the shampoo, conditioner and body soap/gel that you offer. Also when guests are staying a few days...please provide two bars of hand soap for the bathroom sink area.
Spacious room with an enclosed ground floor balcony. Great bathroom. Comfortable bed
Nothing.
Lovely boutique! we stayed over Easter weekend for a family celebration. the King room was spacious, nice balcony with great view of the valley. All of the staff were extremely friendly, as was the bartender! Great food, breakfast and lunch, loved the Salmon Ceaser Salad. We enjoyed the Easter Brunch, something for all taste buds! Would definately recommend and would certainly stay again!
Beautiful boutique hotel. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The lobby and common areas were clean with great views. The room was spacious, quiet with thick blackout curtains. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely visit. Will definitely stay again.
Our room had 2 queen beds. The rooms are comfortably appointed and clean. Typical beds, tv, dresser, table and chairs, fridge, microwave, safe and coffee maker. Some of the rooms have walk-in showers, others have a tub/shower. The beds are high but very comfortable - no shortage of pillows. Everything else, just as expected and in working order. The water pressure wasn't very good. Enough water for a shower, but don't expect a pressure washer. The toilet filled very slowly as well. Views off the back and from the pool were a nice place to enjoy a cocktail and unwind from the day. Rooms near the highway do have quite abit of road noise from Hwy 90 - bring some ear plugs if that bothers you.
A wonderful boutique hotel for our group of women golfers!! This hotel provided an outstanding view, outdoor balconies overlooking the pool and valley, very nice clean rooms, a wonderful restaurant and spa and an amazing staff!!!
Thanks to all for making our stay exceptional! We would love to do it all again!!
Hillside Boutique is a neat little gem of an Inn. We were in Castroville for a ladies’ golf tournament. The inn accommodated the group. The rooms were large and comfortable and very clean. Each room had a balcony with a view of the Hill Country. There was a beautiful bar and restaurant-La Collins. We had drinks outside. Plenty of outdoor seating for any size group- overlooking the vistas of the Hill Country try and a gorgeous pool. The staff was amazing and always accommodating. They even let our group use their ballroom to play games.
This Inn is a great destination for a couple, a small group or even a small destination wedding.
We got married at Hillside Boutique Hotel in March 2026. We originally booked in February 2025 with Penny, and a few months into planning Rebecca took over.
Throughout the planning process, communication was inconsistent. Emails and texts would often go unanswered for weeks, which made it difficult to stay organized and confident in the details of our wedding. We also noticed pricing discrepancies from our original agreement and were told certain things had been missed, which created confusion.
We repeatedly requested a tasting with the chef, but despite some responses, a date was never confirmed. We were told we had to wait on the chef's schedule, and before we knew it, it was already January and we never had a tasting. We were still assured the food would be "100%."
Another issue was with the room block. We were initially told a room block would be in place for our guests, but this was never properly set up. Rebecca later mentioned there had been new management and apologized, but by that point, our guests were already having difficulty booking rooms. As a result, several of our out-of-town guests were unable to stay on-site.
We also had issues with our own room assignments. My mom and I were supposed to have side-by-side rooms (101 and 103). When she arrived, she was initially placed in room in the 300s, but after we addressed it, they did move her to room 103 that same night. However, when I arrived, room 101 was no longer available, so I had to stay in a different room above her room which was not what had been planned.
Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment of the entire experience. My husband is an executive chef, and many of our guests are chefs, food consultants, doctors, and business owners--so the quality was very noticeable. The food was overcooked (over-grilled proteins, overdone potatoes), portions were minimal (a piece of broccolini), and some guests who were supposed to receive salmon did not receive it at all. My mom even had to return my 85-year-old uncle's chicken twice because it was too tough to cut.
Now, weeks later, guests continue to tell us how beautiful the venue was and how amazing the wedding felt overall--but almost always follow it with comments about the food. It's honestly disappointing and a bit embarrassing to say we paid $34 per plate for 104 guests for a meal that did not meet expectations.
No one from the venue addressed or acknowledged the food issues during the event, which was frustrating because we would have appreciated the opportunity to correct things in real time.
We also experienced a 30-minute delay due to rain, which added some stress.
We were later offered a 50% discounted weekend stay along with a $100 dining credit. While we appreciate the gesture, we kindly declined as we did not feel it adequately addressed the concerns.
That said, the venue itself is absolutely beautiful, and our wedding was still a special and memorable day. The setting and atmosphere are the reason for the 3-star rating.
However, the lack of communication, disorganization with accommodations, and especially the food quality are why it cannot be rated higher.
It’s was beautiful and clean
The restaurant food the choose was not to my liking
When we initially got to our room, the TV was not working properly. When I returned to the front desk to discuss the problem, the manager moved us into the room next door as a solution. TV in the new room worked great and the room was spacious and comfortable.
Hillside Boutique is probably one of the best hotels I have stayed at. I have stayed here on several occasions. I love the atmosphere and everything is very well kept and maintained. Rooms exceptionally cleaned and are comfortable. The staff is friendly, professional and accommodating.
This was not the luxury experience stated online.
The spa booking process is outdated, and you cannot take advantage of the packages offered online. Once I did finally get booked, the massage therapist was incredibly angry and unwelcoming. He was cussing, slamming doors, and yelling in the room he was setting up.
The bedding on the table was dirty and stained. My session started late and ended early. I was charged more for the session than listed on the website.
I requested to speak with a hotel staff member, and while the woman I spoke with was the only saving grace, a manager should have called me back to apologize. She should not have had to do what she did.
Beautiful- with a gorgeous view
There were plumbing problems
I went with my family to check out Hillside since it’s been newly renovated, and let me say WOW. Floor to ceiling windows, views, and a cathedral banquet space. The service at the restaurant was amazing! I was really impressed by their bar and craft cocktails because I didn’t know what to expect. Their Chef really outdid himself with the menu too- the pesto linguini was incredible. I really felt like I stepped into a vacation oasis but it was only 20 minutes from my house. I would love to come back and enjoy it again!
