Lovely bar food
Friendly staff
Very comfortable and clean room with a good breakfast. However the TV in the room didn't work.
We love it here and were so looking forward to a return visit.
The rooms at the front are close to completion so our room was at the back. It was lovely, spacious and beautifully decorated, with lots of gorgeous bits and bobs. Very thoughtful additions such as straw beach bag for when it’s hot and a hot water bottle when a little cooler, obviously there is a charge if you ‘forget’ to leave them in the room on departure.
The weather was kind to us so we were able to sit outside for a drink, the bar area is also fabulous, stunning decor and a very quaffable selection of cocktails.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fabulous, there is a separate review.
We did have an issue at breakfast however it was professionally dealt with by Paula on reception. Our feedback was constructively received.
Another wonderful stay, we have reluctantly reduced our rating from ‘excellent’ to ‘very good’ in relation to our breakfast experience.
We absolutely will return and hopefully will be able to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms.
Excellent stay, very comfortable, spacious and clean rooms and hotel all round with a very friendly and helpful welcome. Restaurant is a great choice for good quality food and big portion sizes. Outdoor bar and seating area with great views is a bonus and a perfect place for relaxing on a sunny day. Great transport links to Dublin and further south with the DART only a 5 min walk away. Safe and welcoming location.
Didn’t like the face that check in was 3:00 and wanted some food at 3:30 but was told the kitchen was closed to prepare for the evening service. Also no room service which I found very odd
Yet another 5 star experience in the HH. Still punching far above its weight. Our room might not have had a sea view but it had everything thing else to make our 3 nights memorable. Like the rest of the hotel it had style, comfort and cleanliness. Best breakfasts in Dublin. Reception staff could give lessons in friendliness and helpfulness. Could not have been nicer. (loved the muted background jazz music in parlour area) We love the seafront walks all within a minute from the hotel. Definitely one of our go-to hotels on East Coast. With ongoing improvements we can't wait to see finished results. 4 stars coming. J&J👍
Booked this hotel as it was near where we were attending a family christening. Good communication from the hotel. But, they are undergoing refurbishment to all the sea view rooms, it didn't really detract from our stay though. The hotel does look dated and tatty from the outside but once inside it's very nice. Good friendly attentive staff. Would imagine that when it's refurb is finished it'll be a jewel along the seafront in Dun Laoghaire.
Positives
Haddington House is situated in an excellent location with wonderful views from the front of the hotel.
All of the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The terrace seating area is well-organised and a lovely place to sit for a drink or a meal.
The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable.
Wifi was fine and connection was straightforward.
Less than positive
It would have been nice to know before we booked that renovations to the hotel were happening during our day. As it was, we could not have a room with a view over the bay, and the workmen started hammering at 8am on our first morning.
The TV was tiny and fixed high up in the corner of the room and could not be seen clearly. Also, the TV reception was via aerial and was intermittent and very poor with limited options for channels.
I tried to use the room telephone to contact Reception to ask for a fan, but it did not work so I went down to the front desk.
There was no lock on the bathroom door.
The wardrobe was old and not fit for purpose eg the bottom shelf fell off because it did not have four props to hold it in place, and the rail for hanging clothes was from back to front instead of from side to side.
Summary
Wonderful location and staff, but a very 'tired' hotel. Certainly not good value for money given that it cost £374.53 (€431.98) for a double room only (no breakfast).
We had the most wonderful evening dining at the Haddington Hotel’s outdoor restaurant last night. The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The service was top class, warm and attentive without ever feeling overbearing.
A special thank you to the lovely manager (who recently returned from her Erasmus in Spain, apologies for not remembering your name!). She went above and beyond to make my husband’s birthday truly special. Her thoughtful touches and genuine care made all the difference!
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal in a stunning setting. We’ll definitely be back!
From start to finish, our stay at Haddington House was exceptional. The staff were incredibly warm, professional, and always willing to help—true hospitality at its best. The hotel was spotless, with a calm, elegant atmosphere and tasteful decor throughout.
The view of the Irish Sea only adds to its charm. Bonus that it’s walking distance from Forty Foot, a popular spot for locals to take a daily dip in the sea.
The restaur
A perfect blend of comfort, cleanliness, and charm.
Having booked this hotel several months in advance, I was extremely disappointed to be bumped in order to accommodate another guest who was being charged more. Was given the excuse that ongoing works in all bedrooms wouldn't be completed until Sept. Funny thing though...it's still available to book on other dates up to Sept.
Area was clean. They seem to care more about the restaurant attached to the hotel than the actual hotel itself. The hotel is under renovation but did not take away from the cleanliness of the hotel. Staff was great except for one cameriera who became very rude because of a language barrier.
Last year (May 2024) we discovered Dun Laoghaire while on a whirlwind tour of Ireland and spent an amazing sunny, warm, beautiful day on the pier and dinner at Oliveto! I have thought about this meal, this service, this restaurant for a year! And for my 50th birthday my husband surprised me with a trip to Haddington House! The weather was sunny and warm all week long! With Emma’s suggestions and recommendations, we explored People’s Park, the Pier, Sandycove, The 40 Foot, Dalkey, Glasthule, our favorite nearby pub The Eagle, and none of this would have been on our radar if Emma hadn’t engaged us, had conversation, or welcomed us warmly to Haddington House. She was the smiling face that greeted us upon arrival and the woman that set us up with a room the wee hours of the morning we arrived. She mapped out every avenue for shopping, lunches, and transportation! We enjoyed towels from the hotel and sat in the park for 4 hours reading books and magazines and RELAXING!!! An amazing week! Thank you for having us!
Wonderful property, very clean, and amazing staff. The cocktail bar and restaurant are excellent
very good experience
Everything felt cared for and right
We love it here, everything is just perfect. We were a little disappointed when we booked and no sea view rooms were available due to being renovated. We were sure we would be a little disappointed with any other room, how wrong we were, our room was fabulous. Spacious, spotless with beautiful decor, fabulous coffee machine, tasty treats and a large bathroom with super powerful shower. In the rooms you can borrow a beach bag for warm days and use a hot water bottle for cooler days. There are a number bikes in the foyer that you can borrow, the views along the sea road are stunning whether you cycle or walk.
The bar area is lovely, with plush fabrics and gorgeous colours, it feels very decadent.
Breakfast is really good, lovely continental selection with really tasty breads and pastries. The selection of cooked options were fabulous, eggs Benedict, smashed avocado and thick local bacon were delicious. The window seats give an amazing view of the harbour.
The staff were delightful, especially the lady who checked us out on the morning of the 11/3, she is so generous with her knowledge and recommendations as to where to visit locally. The young lady at breakfast each morning was so friendly. Both are an absolute credit to Haddington House.
We can’t wait to return and stay in one of the new renovated sea view rooms.
Highly recommended.
An excellent find in a superb location. Very handy to the DART line . We stayed on a Rugby weekend and found the Haddington a great value alternative to staying in town, and only a short DART ride from Lansdowne. A very warm and genuine welcome at check in and friendly staff in the bar when we got back in the evening. The room was clean and spacious and very comfortable. We didn’t eat in the hotel so can’t comment on the food. Shower was a bit difficult to figure out but that was the only issue. We are definitely coming back again later in 2025.
Awesome place with great eye for detail. Loved the beachbags and other little items in the room. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. The food in the restaurant was great, although staff good improve on certain points. But overall we had a awesome stay!
Very cosy
