Washington Square Inn

Das Zimmer hat die besten Zeiten schon hinter sich. Wände sind verschmutzt, Einrichtungsgegenstände defekt, in der Dusche gibt es Schimmel. Eine Rezeption gibt es nicht mehr, alles funktioniert nur noch online. Dafür sind 200 $/Nacht nicht angemessen.

Internet was intermitent during our stay. Bathroom was outside of the apartment, which is a bit inconvenient.

Tv didn't work

It wasn’t obvious how we were to check in. This caused a bit of confusion. It also meant needing a staff member. This is a bit of a hassle when nobody is there but it was sorted relatively quickly.

They tell you it’s a “smart” hotel, which is simply a fancy way for people not to be available when things go wrong. The communication was ridiculous. Even when they insisted daily that we download an app to check in days in advance, it never occurred to them that they’d need to provide the code to enter the front door. We received a notice that the room was ready and went there only to find it was still being cleaned. Everything on the hallway smelled awful by the way. We had to do a lot of back and forth to the hotel by then. They waited until the very last moment when our check in time was already due to say that the room was not going to be available (even after confirming minutes before that everything was ok). Disastrous communication and they didn’t even offer a compensation refund when we had to search for a last minute hotel. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my worst enemies.

-room was very stuffy

The site said free breakfast and there wasn’t any breakfast at all.

I found it absurd that there was never a human being present at all during my stay, aside from the housekeeper (who by the way only speaks Spanish; fortunately I am rusty but can communicate in Spanish myself.) I used to stay in this hotel and recommended it to friends and family when I lived on Telegraph Hill in the 1980s and 1990s. There were fewer rooms then but each was comfortably furnished and had some character. Now the rooms are smaller and spartan in furnishings, with not even a chair to sit in or a desk to write on.

What’s to like?
No a/c. No elevator.
Moldy shower.
The toilet paper is John Wayne toilet paper - it’s rough, tough and it doesn’t take shit off of anyone.

No parking on site

we got bedbugs here… it’s an expensive flophouse. and the automated room and build access locks you out long before checkout time
