Old building! But this is more than offset by the staff and experience
Excellent service
This hotel is spotlessly clean with a good range of services - breakfast buffet was excellent with a vast range of Chinese and international options. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was excellent. 20 minutes walk to the metro or station but taxis are very cheap the location gives you a good feel of the local life- the locals were friendly!! We will return
It’s a nice hotel but the rooms are a little old and like other Chinese hotels they have a big window from the main room into the bathroom. Who wants to see their partner cleaning their teeth? It has a blind but at night light shines through when the bathroom light is turned on. It woke me up.
Anyway, people are very nice, as I’ve found generally in China
One good think is that it is close to the Botanical Gardens on foot.
One issue was noise from building works nearby but is just a short term problem
This hotel is a bit old, but overall you'll find everything you expect. Food is very good, rooms are large and the location although a bit remote makes it a quiet retreat. English is only spoken by few staff members. Inddor pool is of reasonable size but think to bring your swimming cap or else you'll have to buy an expensive one...
Beautiful hotel. Great food. Comfortable bed. English not much spoken other than at front desk, but staff is most pleasant and tries hard to help. Near to East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST).
This was a business trip. Everything was great. Upon entering there is a lovely smell of something floral - very calming and chilled. There are lots of large paintings everywhere which are lovely to look at. I know very little Chinese and was made to feel very welcome. As the videos at the airport say, a smile and a wave with 'ni hao' go a long way! Also learn 'Xie Xie' which is thank you - also important! The room was comfortable and clean, a bit dated but all fine and housekeeping checked in on me every evening to give me fruit and make sure I was ok, which was amazing. Candy and her team in the restaurant were fantastic - they were all very friendly and kind. The food was good, I recommend the chicken and pesto wrap with chips from the Western menu. It was great. be mindful that wine is only sold by the bottle and not by the glass and there are no beer bottle openers in the bedrooms even though there are bottles of beer. Excellent wifi. The mattress was really solid and firm so I slept really well.
A great stay if you are over that way in Shanghai.
A hotel with a spacious room for a decent price in Shanghai. They could do a better job in maintaining the conditions of the furnitures and other facilities
The hotel was not too bad, but I doubt that I'd return. The room is fairly basic for the price. The breakfast is VERY overpriced, but there are not many other options in the surrounding area. I booked a king bed, but was given a room with two singles. The staff switched me to a much smaller room with a double bed when I brought this to their attention. It was ok, but I had paid extra for a large room with a king.
I was booked into this hotel by a client. Otherwise would not have found it as it is not in a main hotel area of Shanghai. Its old, but I did have a pleasant stay. It is next to the Shanghai Botanical gardens which can be accessed directly from the compound which makes a pleasant change from the usual noise and traffic. But it seems to be far from anywhere unless have transport or use a taxi. Glad I stayed, but probably wouldn't seek it out again
Great hotel and excellent customer service. I would just advise that the facilities are old and out dated. I would not recommend in going if you like a spa and hair salon in the hotel. I would say that this is a standard 3 star for the most part. The breakfast is not good. It is like a American international breakfast. Not Chinese.
Nice hotel near the botanical gardens, but far from other sight seeing areas.
The Garden next door! You cannot beat that.
Take taxi from pudong airport to the hotel around 45 minutes and RMB140. Actually, the hongiao airport is more close to the hotel. Hotel room is clean. I book the hotel with breakfast, and the breakfast is good. Free Wifi.
The service was pleasant, especially the young lads in the cafe, but the location is awful. the hotel is off the beaten track. in good traffic it takes 30 mins to get to any of the city sights and much longer during rush hour. There is one cafe nearby but otherwise this is a residential area. The grounds are quite nice, with fish ponds, a nice walkway, greenery and birds around but this can't make up for the bad location. The rooms are old and tired although the bed was fine and clean. I would not stay again although those visiting Shanghai who want to get away from it all may like this hotel.
As other reviewers mention, it is slightly outside the main part of the city - however, it was perfect for us because it was in close proximity to where family lived. The hotel was very clean, the staff extremely professional and everyone spoke at least a little bit of english, and the hotel is walking distance from the beautiful Shanghai Botanical Gardens (only 20RMB, or about $3.50 entrance fee). The room was cleaned well every day and we had a lovely view of the hotel's pond and black swans. I would highly recommend, especially if you need to stay in the southern part of Shanghai for any reason.
I have been to the tourist areas of Shanghai several times, so for me, it was not neccessary to be in the heart of the tourist district. What is remarkable about Skylight Gardents is its immediate proximity to the Shanghai Botanical Gardens. As a hotel guest, you have free admission, and a private gate that enters into an expansive oasis. If you are in trepidation of air pollution and the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, I would recommend this hotel. The downside is that it is not close to major attractions. So, if you are looking for a very pleasant place to de-compress, before moving to another area of China, and have no need to do tourism 101, then I would recommend this four-star accomodation.
If you happen to have work somewhere in the area its a good hotel to stay at. The rooms are clean and hotel staff is helpful but the hotel isn't really near anything at all so if you are going to visit Shanghai better stay closer to the city. As a bonus you can also go into the park behind for free.
