We stayed here on the evening of November 17. It was quite the splurge for us, but well worth it. Originally I had opted for this hotel in particular due to its close proximity to Itsukushima Shrine. But if I ever go back to Miyajima Island, I would book this hotel just for how amazing it was!
The room itself was an extravagant, luxurious, very spacious Japanese-style room that we thoroughly enjoyed staying in! Our room had a private outdoor bath on the balcony, with a beautiful view overlooking the island. I especially enjoyed the view while relaxing in the healing onsen water.
We emailed the hotel in advance to request dinner and breakfast at the hotel, which they graciously accommodated (our room didn’t include meal service, and we were happy to pay extra for it because we knew food options on the island were very limited). The food itself was just as extravagant and luxurious as the rest of the hotel—our kaiseki seafood dinner especially was easily one of the most top quality meals of our entire lives. They were very kind to provide us with an English translation of the foods we were eating, which we really appreciated having.
The hotel also has a public bath, and a lounge. We didn’t make use of either one of these, but I’m confident that they are just as luxurious and well-kept as the rest of the facilities here.
One detail I thought was particularly thoughtful to have in the hotel was a sign illustrating today and tomorrow’s sunrise, sunset, weather and temperatures. Very helpful information to have for exploring Miyajima Island.
You can contact the hotel in advance to arrange free shuttle service from the Miyajima ferry terminal to the hotel, but we opted to walk so that we could explore the island. On the day of our checkout the hotel was willing to hold our bags so that we could do the ropeway without being weighed down by our heavy bags, and afterward we used the shuttle to take us from the hotel back to the ferry terminal—we were very grateful for that time and energy saver!
The real star of the show was our room attendant!! ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL service!! She was so very kind and patient with my husband and I with our very limited Japanese language and etiquette knowledge.
In fact, every staff member that we encountered here was incredibly friendly and helpful. I have nothing but high praise for this hotel and its employees. I genuinely appreciated the opportunity to stay here and experience top-notch omotenashi, THANK YOU so much to everyone at Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto! We truly hope to stay with you again one day.
We enjoyed our 2 night stay here to experience a more traditional stay during our trip. Onsen was a highlight. Rooms are large and clean. We had a double and they made a futon for our child each night.
We also enjoyed our dinner (similar to a degustation - many small courses). and breakfast for 1 night.
Note the hotel is on the more expensive side.
The island is great - and popular with tourists and locals. There is an excellent coffee shop walking down to the bay (in the corner which serves great coffee (the best we had in our trip) and also the coffee soft serve is delicious.
An excellent hotel, we stayed in room 502 which was stunning with a fabulous outside onsen and great views. Dinner in the hotel was delicious and the service very good. We enjoyed the ropeway cable car up and down Mount Misen and the firewalking in town. During the main part of the day it is very busy in the centre but staying in the hotel means you get to enjoy the surroundings early morning and in the evening when the vast majority of people have left.
We loved Miyajima Island
The hotel is showing its age a little but still good
Public Onsen was very nice
Room was large and very clean
Meals were a challenge to our western pallets at times but were of high quality
The staff were excellent
Would recommend
A beautifully appointed and luxurious hotel with attentive staff. The Japanese/Western style room was spacious and meticulously clean. Would definitely visit here again.
Lovely hotel and location for a short stay. Upgraded room with open air bath was a nice treat. Hotel was quiet and most restaurants nearby shut early so not much going on after 7.
Hotel is great and the public baths. Staff is excellent and very helpful. My only complaint is the wifi that it keeps dropping and takes a while to reconnect.wifi in room is bad but at lobby the signal is strong but also drops a lot and needs reconnecting.Enjoyed my stay and great hotel and staff.
Great location, lovely staff and so helpful. We had a Japanese room and after Tokyo and Osaka it was HUGE ! An amazing experience best sleep we have had.
We didnt book meals but probably should of booked dinner as that was stressful!
Gift shop on site with great items.
One night wasnt enough !
The experience here was next level. Get a room with the private onsen and ocean views. The staff is very attentive, the rooms are beautiful. Don’t miss the Kaiseki dinner!
We were after a traditional Japanese style stay and we were not disappointed from the moment we got off the ferry. We were greeted by the friendly local deer, which the kids loved. The Staff were very friendly, courteous and very attentive and accommodating. The room was very clean - traditionally kept - we slept on futons, floor was tatami mats, ate on the traditional tables and bathed in the onsen. Highly recommend if you’re after a traditional experience!!!
What a great ryokan experience! Definitely a highlight of our trip. This was our introduction to an onsen and it was perfect. The meals are a must! The food is so fresh and delicious. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend the Grand Hotel Arimoto and would come again.
Hôtel dans le style japonais qui rappelle l’esprit ryokan.
If you are planning on spending a night in Miyajima, this hotel was fantastic. The staff is amazing, they pick you up and drop you off to the ferry terminal, even though it is a 6/7 minute walk. There is a small japanese garden and a public bath.
The island itself is magical, small and cute. The restaurants close early and some open until 8:30, but it might be a good idea to find same day reservations once you find where you want to eat. The hotel offers a room with food/restaurant service that you can purchase when booking.
スタッフの方には丁寧に対応して頂き、楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
It is really worth staying on the island for 1 or 2 nights. The room was a spacious 1/2 Japanese 1/2 Western, twin beds and a large window. Some confusion with staff when being shown to our room and with information on the shuttle service. Dinner and breakfast were included. The degustation dinner was beautifully presented, but our server was a bit painful with the understanding of English. We tried, as she wanted to learn English for a future trip, but it took up so much time.
The public onsen here can get very busy later in the night.
We stayed in the room with the open air bath and it was a beautiful room. The open air bath was worth it with a view of the famous gate. The staff was amazing and so respectful. The location was close to the shrine and shops and not far from the rope pull to go to top of mountain. Highly recommend this hotel!
Good place with good service to stay.
will come back again.
Las instalaciones están muy bien, cuenta con su propio Onsen, muy bonito y amplio
This hotel was incredible! Beautiful hotel, rooms, gardens, lounge and private and public onsens.. Great location, shuttle service and excellent service! So nice to be on the island at night and in the morning without the crowds. Highly recommend!
This was an unexpected delightful place to have been recommended to us located on the Miyajima island via ferry from where the JR West Miyajimaguchi Station. The staff were delightful and attentive who also looked after a minor mishap my wife endured when one of the local island "friendly" deer bit her in attempting to get her ice cream cone. beware ! We thoroughly enjoyed the ritual of dressing in a kimono for dinner which was a ten course array of local Japanese dishes.
