Went to see Bryan Adams at the Utilita Arena. Hotel is a good 15 minute walk from the castle and is on a main road , it's literally 2 minutes from the arena (you can see it from the hotel). The staff are friendly, and the vibe is pretty chilled out. We had a accessible room which is the first of my concerns.
Firstly, the alarms are so close to the bed that if you roll over you set them off. There is no shower curtain and the shower drain is in the middle of the room so the floor gets flooded (we resorted to putting towels in the doorway to stop the living area flooding too.), and the floor doesn't dry. Perfect for someone who's bad on their feet. You're so on the 12th floor, so if the fire alarms go off you have 12 floors to negotiate as lifts are a no no in a fire!
Whilst we're on the subject of lifts. They clunk and clang like they're on their last legs. The air con is so loud that you can't sleep with it on, the doors can't be closed unless you slam them and if someone flushes a toilet the whole floor hears.
Parking is exorbitant (£17 a day), you would think paying £400 for 3 nights would entitled you to free parking. Breakfast is £17.50 a head and not really worth it.
The best thing about the whole stay was falling out of the concert and in to the hotel
Awful experience, would not be returning. On arrival we were not advised we had been given a accessible room, when we asked to change we got mumbled at that they were full! … adjoining door could hear couple in the next room talking clearly. Our tv turned itself off every ten minutes , toilet seat was broken, bathroom grubby and smelt of stagnant water , water piped and aircon rattling at 5am waking us up . No iron or ironing board and key card had to be reactivated more than once ! All in all not a pleasant stay
6 of us stayed here for one night and all thought it was well worth the money. Great location, friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Rooms were decent with very large and comfy bed and nice bathroom. Rooms were a little bit dated but fine. Would use again
We had a brilliant stay in Cardiff
The two Marks and Morgan were great nothing too much trouble went the extra mile as we visited for my husband’s 60th birthday Mark in the dining room even got him some cake for his birthday at breakfast
Appalling service. Arrived at the hotel, they couldn’t find our reservation despite me having the reservation number. The receptionist mumbled something and then walked off. A man then appeared and just logged on with no explanation. He couldn’t find it either, asked me if I’d booked it under another name and just got ruder and ruder. Apparently they were having IT problems. I appreciate everyone has those occasionally but an explanation and apology would have been the professional way of dealing with the situation rather than silence and rudeness. One staff member told us the owner had cancelled the funding and when we were leaving they were booking people in and out by paper and pen. I’d allow extra time when booking in.
Some good, some very not!!
Good points -
1. We stayed in Room 1105 which was a clean, comfortable accessible room.
2. Very quiet overnight.
3. Bed was very comfortable but pillows could do with renewing.
Moderate points -
1. We parked in the hotel car park (£25/24 hours 😳) I am a wheelchair user & there are steps down from the car park to the hotel. There is a hotel operated wheelchair lift there but we could see no way of calling for assistance so had to press the emergency button to get help!
2. The check in system needs improving. We arrived around 14.40 but were not allowed to check in until 15.00, even people arriving at 14.55 but were turned away. So at 3pm there was a very long queue waiting to check in!
3. I was told at check in that we had breakfast included but when I checked my booking it said ‘Room Only’. I can’t help but wonder if this was said to get people to go into the restaurant and then find out later that their credit card had been billed?!
Bad points -
1. In our room there was a connecting door to the room next door. Granted there was no handle on the other side of the door but it would only have taken a credit card for the people next door to access our room! I understand the need for connecting doors but as two females staying in the room we felt quite vulnerable. There needs to be a separate lock on this door.
2. We checked in, got our key card and headed up to floor 11. 2 other women also got off on the same floor - and then headed to open OUR room!! Once they realised it was an accessible room they accepted that it was our room so they had to go back to reception.
Talking to other groups later, it appeared to be a regular occurrence that evening. One person actually went to ‘their’ room to find a man’s clothes & toiletries in the bathroom - it was already being used! As you can imagine it made us feel VERY unsafe, not wanting to leave anything in the room and worried that someone might come into the room overnight! Unfortunately although we used the security chain on the door, it would have taken a firm push to break it off as the screws were already very loose!!
We won’t be going back!
Fabulous room, fabulous breakfast and staff lovely so pleased how near the utility arena it was ,the hotel is lovely and the staff so good will stay again
We stayed here a couple of months ago and had issues. Benefit of the doubt, we decided to stay again. What a mistake that was.
Dirty sheets, multiple obvious stains. Smoke detector covered over with a dirty sock, shampoo pots in shower empty.
To top it off, the staff did not care one bit, spoke to them at time of visit and emailed them after stay with pictures and our concerns. No response at all.

Incredibly good value - really clean central to Cardiff centre lovely staff , very comfortable bed couldn’t complain about anything !
We enjoyed our previous at the Cardiff Radisson and decided to use it again for a return visit. Unfortunately our recent experience was not as good. We had a nice big room which was fine. However we returned from a day out to find our bed was not made. We also could not find a hairdryer. We reported both issues to the desk and received a quizzical look about the first issue. With regards to the hairdryer we were told we could have obtained one by ringing reception. This sounded pretty inconvenient to me! Also I’m sure on our last visit there were facilities to make a hot drink but this time there were none. All in all nowhere near as good as our previous stay and disappointing.
Great location
Booking in after 4pm
The location is amazing, just at the back of John Lewis and close to the station, and we were lucky enough to get parking.
It was an amazing hotel 10 years ago when we last stayed, now it’s rather tired. The room climate control is great, but our duvet was really thin on one side so we were either cold or hot the first night. When we asked for an extra blanket, we got another duvet which had the same problem, but together they worked. The pillows were also like rock so we requested a replacement soft one, which was lovely. We had to ask twice (once in the morning and again in the evening) before we got the extra duvet and soft pillow. The room was clean, except for the room phone which we first used to call reception because the kettle didn’t work, under the handset the phone was awful, full of crumbs and gunk. Breakfast was okay, but very average and given all the coffee shops within a minutes walk, not really good enough. The shower was amazing!
It’s such a shame, this hotel was amazing when we stayed a few times ten years ago. The staff are really lovely, but the hotel really needs a refresh and just isn’t up to the standard of the other Blu Radisson hotels, which generally are very reliably excellent.
Location and reception staff
Room adequate
Food in restaurant sat evening. Poor selection as many dishes not available
Staff not helpful
Very central to all the shoot
Nothing
Very friendly and helpful staff. Room very comfortable and breakfast good but a little on the pricey side.
The breakfast could have been a little cheaper but apart from that I had no complaints.
