Hotel Santa Maria

Hotel Santa Maria was wonderful. It's set in a little oasis in the middle of Trastevere. It's not the easiest to reach by car, but the taxi dropped us in front without any trouble.
The staff were really friendly, the buffet breakfast was wonderful, and the evening cocktails/apeo were welcome after a lonf day sightseeing — I'll miss my basil smash. The rooms very clean, and the whole place feels calm. It's not modern — but that's exactly the charm. A really special stay.

My family had a wonderful stay at Hotel Santa Maria. The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable, and the location was perfect — this was my parents' first trip to Europe, and they couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you!

The built in amenities speak for themselves. A hearty breakfast featured European and American style options (bacon and eggs, and pastries and Nutella, plus fresh fruit, veggies, cured meats and cheeses) for a 3 hour window each morning, including made to order espresso drinks by very helpful staff. Then, for the price of one drink (wine, cocktails, or non-alcoholic) they offered a free buffet of appetizers like caprese skewers, foccaccia with a variety of toppings, fresh vegetables, and other antipasto from 5:30-7:30. Drinks were always terrific and generous.

Our room was one of the few 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suites and amply fit our 2 adult, 2 teen party. In a heat wave of 38° C/ 100F, our air conditioning kept our room cool all through the day and night. The breakfast/bar area was always cool and the orange trees shaded the interior courtyard so eating outside was pleasant.

But the real proof of their hospitality was the staff. They helped us find an air conditioned taxi to take us around during the heat of the day to sightsee and for photo ops so we could enjoy Rome without heat stroke (and for 1/3rd of the price of a guided tour). They allowed us to check in early and check out late. They never knocked on the door so our jet lagged family could sleep at odd hours, but made sure we had everything we needed (fresh towels, etc.) They even opened the breakfast room and kept the AC on when we needed to wait beyond the late checkout time for our private car to our next destination. But how can I describe the kindness and helpful attitude of true professional hospitality staff? Despite my lack of Italian, they figured out or anticipated my needs, always with a smile and good wishes. I felt like an honored guest, even at my most disheveled.

We will be back (but maybe not during a heat wave)! Yet, even at the height of the heat wave, the nights were pleasant and we were able to enjoy the romantic cobblestone streets and outdoor sites too hot to visit in the day. Trastevere really lights up at night, with street performers at Piazza Trilussa until the wee hours and all ages in the streets and squares enjoying a moment of cool air.

Absolute gem tucked in the busy Trastevere neighborhood. Staff super friendly and always available. A special mention to the cappuccino craftsmanship.

A gorgeous hotel with amazing staff. Who created a friendly atmosphere. We would have loved to have stayed longer. It is situated in a vibrant area with great restaurants in nearby proximity. We were given a restaurant reccomended list on check in. It was phenomenal.

All staff were very friendly and accommodating and couldn’t be enough for you to feel welcome and to have a lovely stay especially Adriano at reception and Kev at the bar plus the breakfast staff who did amazing coffee at breakfast time.
Location was excellent right in the heart of trastevere but still had the peace and quiet on an evening.

We stayed in Room number 1 which was very private and had its own patio area .

Location and atmosphere are unmatched! We walked everywhere. So is the service and delicious breakfast. We had the best spritz of our 2 weeks in Italy at the hotel bar! Everyone who works at Hotel Santa Maria is incredibly nice and helpful. The room was very comfortable for our family of 4 and the A/C was a lifesaver in the summer heat. I cannot recommend this place enough!!

Love this hotel. This was our second stay at Hotel Santa Maria. The serene courtyard and the delicious breakfast are a welcome break from the crowds and pace of Rome. Will return again soon.

Charming hotel. Great location. Rooms are dated and that is clear to see in pictures. But dated and not clean are not the same. Our bathroom had specs of mold and shower head was green with lime indicating it was not clean. I am sensitive to mold and found this challenging. My advice. Do a full check or room upon entering and speak up early. I did not discover this until after 10p and by then we were exhausted. Rest of facilities are clean. Good breakfast and coffee. Happy hour spritz is 15 e but it includes some cold treats pizza and sandwiches. People are very nice. Air conditioning in our room was cool not cold. Rome is steaming this summer. Literally 40C today. Our early stay was at the smeraldo…much better experience and value. This is budget choice in a nice area of Rome with benefit of larger family rooms. Once you get a room so a full review to ensure you are happy.

This hotel is far and away our favorite place to stay in Europe - staff is incredible, rooms are quiet and comfortable, and location is perfection. Plus the vibe/atmosphere of the hotel is so sweet. We easily fit our family of 4 in one of the suites and it was spotless! Most delicious breakfasts as well. We can't wait to go back!

We loved this hotel. Went with my 2 teenage kids and stayed in a triple room. It had everything we needed and the air con was much appreciated in the Rome heat! Breakfast and happy hour were brilliant, plenty of choice and good quality. Location was perfect, the area comes alive in the evening, this hotel is like a calm oasis within vibrant area, which was perfect for us. We definitely plan to return.

The hotel is in a perfect location and the customer staff is unbelievable and made us feel so welcome. We lost our luggage and Armando went above and beyond to assist us and was truly amazing. Would recommend this place to everyone
