This will be a very fair and balanced review of Dai-ichi Hotel Ryogoku, the good and not so good. Location was perfect for our needs. The Oedo subway line is right outside the front door. A leisurely five minute walk gets you to Ryogoku Station with the Sobu (local/yellow) train line (which connects with the, all important, Yamanote loop green line train at Akihabara station).
Dai-ichi Ryogoku is well appointed with fairly spacious, comfortable, well maintained rooms. On the 18th floor there is a room with a microwave and several vending machines for snacks and drinks. There are several restaurants which are overpriced and a cafe on the first floor. There is also a 7 Eleven connected by a side entrance. Based on our experience, eating like locals buying from 7 Eleven is the best option for fast breakfast and late night snacks. Though this 7 Eleven closes at 11pm.
Some of the downsides to Dai-ichi Hotel Ryogoku are. You have no choice of whether your room has air-con or heating. That is determined by the front desk for the entire hotel. They do not give an announcement as to which will be on. Over the course of our week long stay, it was air-con some nights and heating on other nights. You can control whichever is on by selecting OFF, LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH on a control panel.
If you like very firm beds (as we do) you will sleep well, except. The pillows are way to flat and not comfortable on the neck.
Our room, specifically, triggered allergic reactions every day of our stay. Not sure if it was caused by unclean air-con/heating filters, stuffing in the pillows, unclean carpet or drapes, etc. We also smelled cigarette smoke one night after returning from a day of touring. We never figured out where the smell came from, because the room is a non-smoking room. We always had the Do Not Disturb sign on our door and did not have our room made up for our privacy but we suspect that someone entered our room and smoked. Thankfully, the room is furnished with an air purifier.
One night, we intended to eat in the cafe on the first floor but when we entered, we were told the whole cafe was reserved for a company group ONLY. The problem with that is the following.
1. These people were not guests of the hotel. They came in on a bus.
2. Hotel guests were denied access to a hotel restaurant.
3. Three quarters of the cafe was empty.
4. There were two couples eating in the cafe away from the company group.
5. They would not let us (hotel guests) order food take out.
Despite Dai-ichi Hotel Ryogoku having some shortcomings, our overall stay was pleasant but we will look elsewhere for our next visit.
Right next to ryogoku station which is super convenient. Theres a 7/11 next door and a few 24hr laundromats nearby. About a 30-40 min subway from Shinjuku area depending on which route you take. 30 min subway/monorail from Haneda airport
Great
The floors are dirty and the top sheet has stains. The remote for the lights were wonky and I couldn't switch it on easily. Otherwise everything else was average hotel. On the last day a huge cockroach crawled down the bathroom drain which was.. disgusting. But staff was nice and the resteraunt food was really good.
Stained duvet cover and a dusty hygiene product tray in the bathroom
A room refrigerator was not working, and it was smaller than a regular mini refrigerator. A room was spacious though. A view room on the 18th floor was unpleasantly warm by heat from too many vending machines running there. The microwave in the view room was very dirty. There is no self serve laundromat in the hotel, but there is a good access to subways.
all good
The rooms were bigger than the usual rooms in Japan. Definitely worth the money. Parking is also easy - can fit a 10-seat van no problem
Not much to say. We slept there but were out most of the days. The staff were pleasant. The subway was right next door.
All in all good.
It’s a clean hotel a little bit old but its perfect cost performance
Theres a 7eleven around the corner with a metro station a few steps ahead. In front of the ryogoku station there’s restaurants.
Its convenient for my business trip
It was nice
Good Location, Beautiful facility and amazing view! 先日利用させていただきました。場所もよく、設備も良く、眺めも良いとても良いホテルでした。また、利用させていただきます
I believe that credit must be given where credit is due, so I write this message to thank and acknowledge the front desk chief attendant of Dai Ichi Ryogoku Hotel. Ms. Yuko Arai was kind, helpful and efficient in assisting me with several issues regarding a late check-out situation and sorting out some documents. Regarding the hotel, my stay was pleasant too, with a gorgeous view of the city, wide breakfast selection and a classically designed but clean room.
Absolutely loved this hotel. We were on the 23rd floor, and it was such a gorgeous view and a spacious and luxurious room.
The area was very quiet, super safe, and very walkable with a close-by train station to get wherever you need to go in Tokyo.
There was a convenient little vending machine area with alcohol, ice, snacks, soft drinks, etc. inside the hotel. Besides that there were 2(?) restaurants inside the hotel that we didn't visit but looked very nourishing!
All in all, I'd rate this a 9/10.
I got.2 rooms, one for two
Decent hotel in a convenient location for Tokyo sightseeing. Plenty of dining options nearby.
A launderette would be great to have on site.
Great hotel, very good location, lots to see and do and eat very close by, the room was big and we didn’t want for anything in the bathroom, would definitely stay here again
Great location.
Staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was exceptional.
Great property
Nice rooms, great staff, peaceful atmosphere and amazing views. It was my 3rd time staying here and I will be back again every year!
